What to Do if You Mess With an Omega? - Chapter 10
Ning Hanzhu’s teeth itched with frustration, but she was helpless against this woman.
To make matters worse, Ning Qianqian fanned the flames from the side. “Sister got played by Pretty Sister, hee hee.”
Xu Yuqing chuckled too. “Your real sister?”
Ning Hanzhu, “…”
What kind of real sister was this? More like one picked up from a trash bin.
She couldn’t resist pinching Ning Qianqian’s little cheeks. “So happy to see me make a fool of myself, huh? You little rascal.”
Ning Qianqian giggled and dodged, and Xu Yuqing steadied her to keep her from falling.
The three laughed and teased, looking from a distance like a family.
As they neared the house, Ning Hanzhu slyly asked, “Did you find a suitable hotel today?”
“Nope.”
Xu Yuqing raised an eyebrow. “What, you think I’m too much trouble now and want to kick me out?”
Ning Hanzhu waved her hands frantically. “No, I just thought—” Thought you’d think I’m a pervert and not want to stay here.
Ning Qianqian proudly chimed in, “Pretty Sister’s staying with us!”
Xu Yuqing patted her little face. “Qianqian’s the one who really welcomes me. She’s the best.”
Ning Hanzhu secretly thought, I welcome you too.
She changed the bedding to fresh sheets and covers, then reorganized the pile of materials in the corner to make more space.
Xu Yuqing watched her buzz around like a busy little bee.
“Qianqian, do you like big houses?”
“Love them!”
Ning Qianqian had few memories of her early childhood. The biggest house she’d been to was Lu Qianran and Lu Yutang’s, with multiple floors and a huge lawn.
When Ning Hanzhu returned, she saw the two squatting at the dining table, drawing. A glance revealed an intricate house sketched on paper, so vivid it rivaled computer modeling. She couldn’t hide her surprise. “You drew this?”
Ning Qianqian clapped. “Big house! Pretty Sister drew it!”
It was a flower-filled villa, three stories tall, with warm sunlight streaming through the windows, utterly beautiful.
Xu Yuqing had even drawn a little figure in front of the house.
Ning Qianqian was thrilled. “Sister, Qianqian gets to live in a big house too! Look!”
Meeting her satisfied, envious eyes, Ning Hanzhu praised, “It’s gorgeous. Qianqian will definitely live in a house like this one day.”
Ning Qianqian pointed at the empty yard. “Needs Furball and Roundball too.”
Xu Yuqing was about to consider adding them. “Who’s Furball? What’s Roundball?”
Ning Hanzhu explained, “Furball’s a curly-haired stray dog. Roundball was our old nanny robot that took care of us when we were little.”
Xu Yuqing asked for details about their appearances and, based on Ning Hanzhu’s descriptions, drew them on the paper.
That night, Ning Qianqian fell asleep clutching the drawing, smiling even in her dreams.
Ning Hanzhu, however, couldn’t sleep, tossing and turning on her floor bedding. Honestly, she’d been in this world less than a week. Aside from the original owner’s memories, everyone here was a stranger to her.
Xu Yuqing, oddly, felt like a touch of reality.
“Can’t sleep?”
“Can you tell me about the capital star?”
That place, a coveted dream for many on Alpha Star, was like a tempting prize.
After asking, Ning Hanzhu nearly dozed off waiting for a reply. Finally, Xu Yuqing’s cool voice came. “The capital star? Better security than here, but so many rules, boxing everyone in. We’re like puppets on strings—what to do, how to do it, all decided from birth.”
“That—” Is it that scary?
Ning Hanzhu was dumbfounded.
Xu Yuqing saw her shocked silence and suddenly laughed. “Kidding. You didn’t fall for it again, did you?”
“…”
Ning Hanzhu was so mad she turned her back, refusing to talk.
After a long pause, Xu Yuqing said softly, “In a situation like today, if an Alpha tried to snatch someone off the street, they’d face severe punishment—ten years minimum, life at worst. But those laws don’t protect Betas and Omegas on Alpha Star.”
This place was a criminal’s paradise.
“Ning Hanzhu, thank you.”
Ning Hanzhu had fallen asleep, exhausted from the day, her stamina needing recovery.
The next morning, she left two nutrient tubes on the table, grabbed two more, and headed out early.
Lu Yutang took her to his usual training spot, where a few Alphas were doing morning drills. He greeted them and led Ning Hanzhu to an inner room. “This is my usual setup. Punch that wall as hard as you can.”
After a night’s rest, Ning Hanzhu felt brimming with energy, like she could punch out a cow.
Following his instructions, she blew on her fist and swung. The wall didn’t budge. Lu Yutang, opening a nutrient tube, shouted, “No breakfast today? Put some strength into it!”
Ning Hanzhu nodded and swung harder. The wall dented.
Lu Yutang’s nutrient tube fell from his mouth in shock.
“Holy—What did you eat? How much strength was that?”
“No idea.”
“Try a few more.”
Ning Hanzhu hammered the wall—bang, bang, bang—leaving even dents.
Lu Yutang tested her further, beyond strength, focusing on her Alpha senses, especially vision and hearing.
Blindfolded, he led her out of the training room. Sounds flooded her brain.
“All you do is play, never helping your mom. Useless. Even a dog wags its tail for me.”
“Brother, you’re hurting me. Stop.”
“Hey, boss, I followed her all day. She went into that house and hasn’t come out. Keep tailing?”
“Yeah, yeah, got it.”
“Man, isn’t Uncle Wild overreacting? That kid Ning Hanzhu can’t cause any trouble, and he’s got us staking her out.”
Ning Hanzhu realized for the first time that sharp hearing could be torture. Constantly hearing this stuff would drive her mad. She started filtering useful from useless info until she caught her name. “Brother Lu, ten meters south to my left, someone’s watching me.”
Lu Yutang’s first reaction: “How do you know?”
Ten meters—farther than his range back then.
Ning Hanzhu said, “I heard them talking about me and mentioning Uncle Wild.”
Lu Yutang knew that name well. He sent three guys, and they dragged back two people.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it.”
“Okay.”
The two were spineless. Before Lu Yutang could interrogate them, they spilled everything.
He kicked them hard, then told Ning Hanzhu, “You’re being watched.”
She hadn’t known where Uncle Wild operated, and Lu Yutang’s inquiries hadn’t turned up anything yet, but these two delivered themselves. “Uncle Wild’s with Yan Feipeng. He heard about your negotiation with Yan Feipeng and sent them to tail you.”
He glanced at her calm face. “They also said they bribed a hospital doctor to tamper with your differentiation agent. They can’t figure out why you not only differentiated into an Alpha but seem fine.”
“!!!”
The original owner’s differentiation failure was due to sabotage.
“Good thing you’re okay. What’s your next move?”
“Cold salad.”
“What salad?”
Ning Hanzhu forced a smile. “I mean, it’s time to clean house.”
The original owner’s memories led her to a misconception. She thought this Ning family servant only dared to bully them covertly, tripping up their lives because they were weak. She never imagined he had a hand in the original owner’s death.
A wave of danger hit her.
Lu Yutang was surprised. “You’ve got a plan?”
Ning Hanzhu hadn’t figured out how to avenge the original owner yet. Uncle Wild had done well on Alpha Star. “Brother Lu, can you dig into what he’s been up to on West Street? The more detailed, the better.”
He could help with that but cautioned, “Don’t act rashly. He hides behind Yan Feipeng. You can’t touch him without dealing with Yan Feipeng.”
Ning Hanzhu wasn’t foolish enough to challenge West Street alone.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got a sister to look after.”
“Good.”
It was noon, and Ning Hanzhu was thinking about the big and little one at home, wondering if they were awake. She headed back.
Xu Yuqing was drawing with Ning Qianqian at the table, the floor littered with crumpled paper since no robot cleaned. Ning Hanzhu stepped on one as she entered.
Picking it up, she saw chaotic, haphazard lines.
A box of caramel pudding, nearly empty, sat on the table.
“Didn’t we finish this yesterday?”
“I saw Qianqian liked it, so I ordered more. The shop messed up and sent an extra one, just for you.”
Xu Yuqing pushed the extra box toward Ning Hanzhu, then returned to Ning Qianqian’s drawing, as if it were a casual gesture.
Ning Hanzhu, “???”
The shop messed up? And something this good happened?
Why hadn’t she ever gotten such luck?
Without overthinking, she sat on the floor, cradling the small box, and scooped a spoonful. The texture was as smooth as yesterday, but with a careful taste, she caught the caramel’s unique bitter charm, tinged with sweetness.
That bit of sweetness lifted her sour mood.
Xu Yuqing saw her smile over a dessert, so easy to fool, so easy to please—a little fool.
