What to Do if You Mess With an Omega? - Chapter 11
Xu Yuqing noticed that Ning Hanzhu had been appearing and disappearing mysteriously these past two days, and she could not see her all day long.
Because there was someone at home to keep her company, Ning Qianqian did not fuss or make a scene; instead, she obediently drew pictures on scrap paper. She drew little grass, drew desserts, and even drew a big house, with three little figures holding hands outside the house.
“Pretty sister, look. This is sister, this is pretty sister, and this is Qianqian.”
“Qianqian drew it very well.”
Xu Yuqing somewhat absentmindedly kept her company for the entire morning. “Qianqian, did your sister often leave you alone at home before?”
Ning Qianqian nodded, then quickly shook her head. “Sister took me to Aunt Lu’s place, picked me up and brought me home after she finished her work.”
But most of the time, she had already fallen asleep by then, and when she woke up, she was already back at her own home.
Xu Yuqing’s expression turned unpleasant. So she had been treating her like a machine for babysitting children?
Thus, when Ning Hanzhu hurried home in a panic.
She saw that of the two nutrient solutions on the table, one remained untouched.
Without thinking further, this one nutrient solution must have been the one Xu Yuqing left. Ning Qianqian had gone hungry in the past, so she cherished food, even nutrient solution; during their most impoverished times, the two sisters shared the same bottle of nutrient solution, and even if just a drop remained, they absolutely would not waste it.
She asked cautiously, “Did it not suit your taste?”
Calling drinking nutrient solution “opening the appetite”?
Xu Yuqing slanted a glance at her, picked up the nutrient solution from the table, and took a sip. “Bah, is this even fit for humans to eat? I want to drink Golden Dew Nectar.”
Ning Hanzhu, “?”
That rumored Golden Dew Nectar that cost 388,888 per cup?
Looking at the mere 388 in relief funds left on her optical computer, Ning Hanzhu fell into a brief silence.
Xu Yuqing raised her chin. “What, do you think I’m not worthy of drinking it?”
Ning Hanzhu’s head began to ache.
She and Xu Yuqing had gotten along harmoniously these past few days, almost forgetting that this woman was a delicate Beta from some family on the capital star; the fact that she could stomach nutrient solution for two days was probably already giving her quite a bit of face.
“You’re worthy, of course you’re worthy.”
“It’s unworthy of you.”
Seeing that the nutrient solution was about to spill out, Ning Hanzhu quickly righted it with sharp eyes and swift hands, then set it aside.
Xu Yuqing nearly laughed out loud, but as soon as she thought of how this person had left her here unattended, the corners of her mouth that had just lifted immediately pursed again. “Handle it however you see fit.”
Ning Hanzhu had not even stayed home for five minutes before she was forced to go out again.
If it had been the past two days, she would still have some spare money in her pocket to buy one for Xu Yuqing, but over these two days, in order to inquire about Uncle Wild’s matters, she had not only spent all her money but also added a bit more out of pocket; now her optical computer showed only a pathetic three-digit amount.
Not to mention buying Golden Dew Nectar—even buying two nutrient solutions that could restore mental strength was not enough.
She was still too poor.
Ning Hanzhu wandered aimlessly down the street, her mind full of thoughts on how to satisfy Xu Yuqing’s appetite; she walked and walked until she unwittingly arrived outside Luo’s shop.
Lately, she had been practicing her five senses daily with Lu Yutang, and now she could control external sounds with ease.
“Boss, what if she really is the second young lady’s friend? If we do this, wouldn’t it be—”
“If you’re so principled, why didn’t you resist a little when those desperados on West Street held a knife to your neck?”
Luo Wu, furious, smashed the thing in his hand onto the clerk. “What use is bootlicking after the fact? You know, but I don’t?”
The clerk did not dare resist as he was hit.
These past few days had been particularly frustrating for Luo Wu. First, he had lost a sum of money because of Ning Hanzhu, and then Xu Yuqing’s appearance had left him uneasy; he had not even caught his breath when Yan Feipeng’s people “invited” him over.
Offending Xu Yuqing would mean, at worst, losing this comfortable and enviable job.
But offending those people on West Street meant he could lose his life at any moment.
Those people on West Street were all fellows who licked bl00d from the blade of a knife, wanting money but not caring for their lives, and they would not give a damn who you were.
He simply did not dare to offend them.
Compared to something without a shadow, of course he had to deal with the immediate crisis first, so after weighing the pros and cons, Luo Wu quickly confessed everything he knew; Yan Feipeng, in a good mood, had his people send them back.
Luo Wu still felt his legs go weak when he thought about it now.
“It’s not my fault; if you want to blame someone, blame your bad luck.”
Clang—
Ning Hanzhu kicked the door with one foot; perhaps too forcefully, as the door actually developed a hole from her kick.
She stared at the hole in silence for three seconds, then quickly averted her gaze.
She had not really expected Luo Wu to keep any secrets anyway, since the man had no bottom line, but hearing it from outside still made her angrier and angrier. She clenched her fist, tore off the barrier patch at the back of her neck, and said, “Who did you just say had bad luck, hmm?”
A domineering and cold pheromone instantly filled the entire room.
The clerk behind Luo Wu thudded to his knees, and under such coercion, Luo Wu also bent his knee, looking as if he was about to kowtow to her three times and nine bows. “Y-y-you—”
Ning Hanzhu knew her pheromone was not very likable, but she never imagined it could have such a deterrent effect; while secretly shocked, she also felt she had gained an extra layer of protection.
At the very least, if Uncle Wild still wanted to kill her, he would have to think twice.
…
Xu Yuqing occasionally glanced at the time on her optical computer; half an hour had passed, and Ning Hanzhu had gone out but still had not returned—even buying jade dew should have brought her back by now. Could she have been scared off by her?
At the thought of this possibility.
She could not help laughing out loud. “Coward.”
Ning Qianqian tilted her head. “Pretty sister, who is the coward?”
Your sister.
Xu Yuqing lightly licked her teeth, feeling that badmouthing the sister in front of her little sister was not quite right. “An Alpha I just met not long ago—cowardly yet cute, and a bit silly.”
Ning Qianqian thought about it but did not understand; still, that did not stop her from chiming in. “Silly.”
The two had just spoken a few words when the door was knocked on. The service-oriented robots lined up in a row, each holding a food box. “Dear cute Beta lady, your ordered meal has arrived. Please sign for it.”
Xu Yuqing was quite surprised to see the familiar robots outside the door. She had indeed intended to make things difficult on purpose, yet she had not expected Ning Hanzhu to actually order a full table of dishes for her, including the Golden Dew Nectar she had just deliberately mentioned.
She poked her head out, but did not see a certain silly Alpha.
Ning Qianqian had never seen so many food boxes before; her mouth gaped open, saliva nearly drooling out. “Wow, it smells so good.”
As the robot left, it did not forget to make a heart gesture. “Remember to give us a five-star review.”
Xu Yuqing closed the door and looked at the food boxes covering the entire room; her mood was slightly complicated. “Qianqian, do you know your sister’s optical computer number?”
Ning Qianqian swallowed with difficulty, her eyes nearly glued to the delicious food, but she still managed to respond. “I remember.”
Ning Hanzhu’s optical computer was the cheapest model; without a network, it was basically useless, its only purpose being to receive subsidies from the relief station—ask, and the answer was poverty.
Because the network on Elf Star was particularly expensive.
Suddenly, an unfamiliar number called.
She was a bit dazed for a moment.
Subconsciously, she hung up.
The person huddled in the corner raised their head to look at her, and Ning Hanzhu immediately cupped her hands apologetically, then muted her optical computer again.
Lu Yutang asked curiously, “Who is looking for you?”
Ning Hanzhu shook her head. “I don’t know. It might be a harassing call.”
