What to Do if You Mess With an Omega? - Chapter 28.2
Ning Ruoxin went nowhere but opened her optical computer, looking at the cooperation message sent that morning. She counted down the time bit by bit. After twenty minutes, she took a box, then reentered the Ning home.
She rarely returned to this house, leaving almost no trace of being a Ning.
She had never imagined one day she would step foot here again for another person.
Ning Ruoxin composed herself and tossed the box in front of Du Rongrong and Ning Hesong. “I just received this. See if it’s Ning Yingwu’s.”
It was a simple paper box, bl00d seeping through, carrying an ominous aura.
Du Rongrong paled in fright. She dared not approach, fearing some horrific sight. She glared angrily at Ning Ruoxin. “W-what do you mean? You didn’t find your brother?”
Ning Hesong’s hand trembled as he uncovered the box. Inside lay a bloody severed finger. His eyes widened, breath ragged. “This is Yingwu’s pinky. I remember the mole on his finger. No mistake.”
Du Rongrong went ashen, mouth agape. “My son.”
Ning Hesong refused to believe it real. “How did it come to this? They want money, right? I’ll prepare it right away.”
Du Rongrong reacted too. “Yes, yes, money. Husband, save Yingwu. He’s still a child.”
Ning Ruoxin coldly savored their vivid expressions. Truly entertaining. “Enough. He’s not dead yet, just missing a finger. And I’ve already got some leads.”
“Really?”
“From what I hear, Ning Yingwu started it. He provoked someone he shouldn’t have, so they punished him this way.”
“Ah?”
“Who did Yingwu provoke?”
A flicker of guilt crossed Du Rongrong’s eyes. Ning Yingwu had been ranting these past two days about teaching Ning Hanzhu a lesson. She had dismissed it. After all, the son and Ning Hanzhu had long been at odds, and now Miss Yuqing stood between them.
She knew Ning Yingwu’s character; he would not go alone.
Ning Ruoxin sneered coldly. “That is for Madam Du to answer. You should know best.”
Du Rongrong shook her head. “I… am not too clear.”
Seeing her like that, what was left for Ning Hesong not to understand? “It’s this kind of time. Just say it.”
Ning Ruoxin reminded coolly from the side. “Yes. Say it now, or who knows what the next box will hold. Maybe a bloody head.”
Du Rongrong dared not imagine. “No, she wouldn’t dare. How could she?”
Ning Ruoxin said, “Why wouldn’t she?”
Seeing them go back and forth as if they knew who it was, Ning Hesong slammed the table hard. “Who is it? Speak!”
Du Rongrong turned her head away. “Ning Hanzhu.”
Ning Hesong’s expression blanked for an instant, then filled with disbelief. “You mean… she kidnapped Yingwu? Impossible. That child was always very obedient before. She could not do something like this.”
Mockery flashed in Ning Ruoxin’s eyes. “A person thrown to a garbage planet to live—you expect her to be obedient and compliant? Do you not know what kind of people inhabit garbage planets? Besides, Yingwu provoked her first, so hardly her fault.”
Du Rongrong was displeased. “I do not expect you to care much for your brother, but how can you elbow outward, always speaking for an outsider?”
Ning Ruoxin said, “Outsider? She is nominally my sister too.”
Du Rongrong choked. “No, she is not. She dared harm my son. She will never set foot in the Ning family again.”
Ning Ruoxin, tired of standing, simply sat. “You had better think carefully. Ning Yingwu is still in her hands. If you cannot meet her demands, guess if she will show mercy with just a finger, or a palm, or an arm.”
“Of course, perhaps you hope as long as he lives, a treatment pod will have him jumping about again. Care to bet on that?”
For a moment, the Ning home fell so silent a pin drop could be heard.
Ning Ruoxin leisurely savored Du Rongrong’s conflicted look. Now she believed that if that long-unseen sister returned, she could indeed shatter this false peace.
She should not have let that vicious woman Du Rongrong live so smoothly.
“Decided?”
“What does she want to let Yingwu go?”
Ning Ruoxin tugged her lips. “She wants all her mother’s relics, Ning family status, and finally, mental distress compensation from Ning Yingwu.”
Calling ransom mental distress fees?
Du Rongrong trembled with rage. “She… she is shameless. What mother’s relics? There are none. Back then, I packed them all and had her take them to the garbage planet.”
Ning Ruoxin directly opened the latest video and projected it large for all to see clearly. In the video, Ning Yingwu whispered guiltily, “I saw Mom secretly divide your mom’s inheritance into three parts. One she tossed into the safe, one she entrusted to Heris Bank, and the other…”
Du Rongrong watched him air all her secrets clean with eyes nearly bursting from rage.
Even Ning Hesong, her pillow companion, knew less than Ning Yingwu. “You… you dared do all this behind my back.”
Ning Ruoxin said, “Want to keep watching?”
Ning Hesong was furious beyond measure and waved hurriedly. This rebellious son—once back, he would beat him to death.
Seeing the immediate effect, Ning Ruoxin closed the video at once. “The evidence is in Ning Hanzhu’s hands. If this video spreads, the Ning family becomes a capital star laughingstock. Such a scandal—not only would your son lose any shot at Miss Yuqing’s protector position, but even I in the military would face repercussions. Consider it carefully.”
Du Rongrong’s head throbbed now.
“She demands too much. Where can I scrape that much money together so quickly?”
“Then I’ll tell her you refuse.”
“No, I’ll gather it. I’ll gather it now.”
…
Ning Hanzhu checked the time. “Ning Yingwu, your mom has not replied to my message for so long. She must be planning to abandon you.”
Half of Ning Yingwu’s face swelled like a steamed bun, his eyes reduced to slits. “No, Mom would not abandon me. She will definitely return your mom’s relics. Just don’t let them hit my face anymore.”
A grown man, so fixated on his face.
Of course Ning Hanzhu knew Du Rongrong would not abandon her only son; otherwise, this plan could not proceed. But bored and idle, she just wanted to scare him.
“Xu Yuqing does not like uglies like you. Give up.”
“Wu, wu wu.”
He had not cried after half a day of beatings, but now tears fell. Ning Hanzhu found it odd. “Then tell me what you like about Xu Yuqing.”
One after another, bewitched by her.
She could understand Yan Feipeng that hick falling for Xu Yuqing—like a country bumpkin seeing a city girl, normal to be smitten.
“What do you know? Miss Yuqing is so wonderful, deserving of everyone’s affection.”
“Ha, I don’t know?”
She had spent more time with Xu Yuqing than this fool, after all.
Ning Hanzhu could not help provoking him. “How could I not know? We even slept in the same room once. Her sleeping face was within my reach.”
“!!!”
Ning Yingwu’s one big and one small eye fixed on her dead, then his mouth suddenly gaped wide in an ah toward her. That pig-headed face lunging close startled Ning Hanzhu, who retreated a step.
Ning Yingwu thudded headfirst to the ground.
Everyone looked over.
Ning Hanzhu touched her nose guiltily and stressed, “Not my fault. He fell himself.”
When several hover cars appeared outside, Ning Hanzhu glanced and confirmed they were friendlies before having Ning Yingwu hauled up.
Ning Ruoxin strode in uniform, the wind lifting her trailing curls, making that face so like Aunt Zhou’s flicker in light and shadow. Four words immediately surfaced in Ning Hanzhu’s mind: heroic and valiant.
This was her long-unseen cousin Ning Ruoxin.
From the original body’s memory, when she left, this cousin had secretly slipped her and Qianqian candies. What a pity—years apart, things and people changed.
Ning Ruoxin’s sharp gaze swept over her, then she reminded coldly.
“Don’t film videos next time.”
“Riddled with flaws.”
Ning Hanzhu blanked, then laughed. “Ruoxin sis, I bet on Du Rongrong being overanxious. As long as we fool her, it’s fine. Fact proves I bet right.”
Her plan had not been sophisticated anyway.
Without Ning Yingwu crashing into it and threatening her with the original body’s mother’s relics, her plan would not have launched so soon.
But some people just needed a lesson.
She had only returned a tenth of the pain they had inflicted on the original body.
Ning Ruoxin’s lips curved slightly. “Where is he?”
When she saw Ning Yingwu’s state, she raised a brow. Ning Hanzhu thought she had gone too far and prepared to defend herself. After all, the last blow was his own fall, not her fault.
“Well done.”
“Hm?”
Ning Ruoxin waved, and the masked brothers who had stayed silent throughout hoisted the unconscious Ning Yingwu onto the hover car.
“Sis, your guards all have such personality. Like you.”
“Your mother’s relics will be delivered soon.”
That was one of their cooperation terms: the original body’s mother’s relics to her, ransom to Ning Ruoxin.
The enemy’s enemy was a friend.
Ning Hanzhu had realized Du Rongrong’s rise involved dirty tricks, so she thought of the original body’s unfavored older sister. Fortunately, this sister was capable, entering the military on her own merits. Otherwise, she alone could not have nibbled even a bit of meat from Du Rongrong.
Ning Ruoxin took two steps. “Since you are back, you can live at home. Father has no objection.”
Return to the Ning home?
Forget it. She feared Du Rongrong, after such a huge loss today, might stew in rage and sneak into her room at night to assassinate her. Better to stay far from such a woman.
Ning Hanzhu said, “No need. I have a place. Sis, rest easy. Even under different roofs, I will not let Du Rongrong live well.”
Seeing her unwilling, Ning Ruoxin did not press.
After all, she herself loathed returning there. Unless necessary, she would never set foot.
After seeing her off, Ning Hanzhu checked the time and rushed to the school gate to pick up Ning Qianqian. She was late and ended up seeing Xu Yuqing holding Ning Qianqian’s hand outside the gate, the big and little one tasting candies.
“Sister, we are here.”
“Thanks for looking after Qianqian.”
Xu Yuqing sized her up and down. “Next time if you have no time, tell the teacher ahead. The school has after-hours care. No need to rush like this.”
“There is even after-hours care.”
“Yes.”
Ning Hanzhu scratched her head. “Got it. But how did you end up here? Just passing by?”
Xu Yuqing’s step faltered. “Ning Hanzhu, do you remember what you said yesterday?”
Ning Hanzhu had said many things yesterday and could not pinpoint which. Racking her brains, she ventured, “Massage for you?”
Xu Yuqing’s face darkened.
But Ning Hanzhu could not help laughing. She tilted her head and whispered in her ear, “Treat you to dinner. I remember.”
