What to Do if You Mess With an Omega? - Chapter 35
Ah ah ah.
Ning Hanzhu tapped and tapped, her finger creating afterimages until she finally closed the video call.
In the steamy bathroom, she froze for a second, then removed the light brain from her wrist and tossed it out the bathroom door, where it landed precisely on the bed. Only then did she close the door again.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah.
She should have, probably, possibly been seen completely.
She had originally thought the light brain was waterproof, so it did not matter whether she took it off while showering. She never expected Xu Yuqing to video call at that moment. Ning Hanzhu’s inner prairie dog kept screaming.
It continued all the way until she finished her shower.
She could not help comforting herself: they were all girls, after all. She had what Xu Yuqing had, so being seen once was no big—no, deal.
Right, no big deal.
Ning Hanzhu buried herself in the bedding and stayed motionless for a long while. Do not let her breathing fool you; some people had already died a while ago.
Xu Yuqing also sat dazed in place after the video call ended, then a layer of blush stained her face. That blush spread rapidly like an infection.
Her cheeks burned.
Her brain went blank for a brief moment.
A minute, or longer, and she covered her face.
[Drip, Master, pheromone index detected as exceeding limits. Do you need me to prepare an inhibitor for you?]
Xu Yuqing gave herself an injection, but the heat on her body did not subside. She simply went to take a cold shower.
Neither of them slept well that night.
To avoid making each other too awkward, Xu Yuqing did not send Ning Hanzhu any messages the next day, let alone dial a video call. As a result, she did not receive any special deliveries from Ning Hanzhu for several days in a row.
In the live stream room, Ning Hanzhu continued making foods the star citizens had never seen before. After the spicy tofu came fragrant spicy crispy-skinned tofu, goo goo egg tofu patties, and the polarizing stinky tofu…
For a time, more and more star citizens arrived after hearing the news. Her live stream room’s fan count broke through from tens of thousands to over a million in a rush. Many posts discussed the food she made, and her live stream room climbed to a decent recommendation spot all on its own thanks to the organic recommendations from the fans.
That day, however, the person in charge at Star Sea panicked.
They watched as Ning Hanzhu’s live stream room grew hotter and hotter, with the fan count even surpassing several streamers that Star Sea Live Platform had cultivated itself.
They had sent Ning Hanzhu several backend short messages before, but the results sank into the sea without a ripple.
The Little Zhi butler assigned to Ning Hanzhu had tried his utmost to act cute but still received not a single response from that heartless woman.
The person in charge at Star Sea tentatively reached out once more.
The result was still no response.
Ning Hanzhu’s backend private messages had recently reached 99+, with plenty of people seeking collaborations. Besides some food-related restaurants, there were even game companies. She looked through them one by one. She had naturally seen the message from the person in charge at Star Sea but deliberately did not reply.
She marked the messages she was interested in, then pulled down to the very bottom where the contract from Yijiansheye lay.
[Tomorrow afternoon at two o’clock, Wind in the Willows, one blue moon.]
Old Wu nearly burst into tears of joy when he received Ning Hanzhu’s message. These past few days, both bosses had asked him about the progress every day, and he felt immense pressure.
Old Wu immediately informed Xu Yuqing and Luo Tianran of the good news.
A flash of surprise crossed Xu Yuqing’s refined face. “You say blue moon?”
Old Wu said, “Yes, probably using that flower as the secret signal. The contract is prepared. Do you have any other instructions?”
Xu Yuqing shook her head. She had originally planned to go herself, but after the mishap last time, she felt she should temporarily avoid meeting Ning Hanzhu.
After all, not many people knew she was the true boss of Yijiansheye.
But now, “I will go tomorrow.”
Besides the collaboration matter, she also had one thing to tell the other party.
Old Wu never questioned the boss’s decisions. “Understood.”
On the other side, Luo Tianran learned of the appointed time and place and rubbed her fists eagerly. “Good; tomorrow, I will go meet this streamer and see just what kind of sacred being she is.”
Meanwhile, Ning Hanzhu’s confinement days had finally come to a complete end.
Seven days, not a single one short.
Ning Hanzhu even had the robot nanny test her pheromone levels and confirmed that her pheromones remained in a stable state. She applied blocking patches to the gland at the back of her neck—one was not enough, so she used two—then turned on all the air circulation in the house.
Once the pheromone scent had mostly dissipated, she had Lu Yutang bring Ning Qianqian back home.
Who could understand the feeling of living alone in this villa, eating alone, staying alone, with no one to talk to—it was exactly like the treatment of an empty-nester.
If not for her being busy making food and live streaming, where she could interact with the fans in the live stream room—these past few days, she had even extended her streaming times.
Otherwise, she would go mad.
This Alpha susceptible period was truly no way for a person to live.
It tormented one too much.
After receiving the message, Lu Yutang returned with Ning Qianqian laden with big bags and small packages. Those who did not know might think this big one and little one had gone on a trip.
He only collapsed onto the sofa after confirming the house still carried too much pheromone scent. “Zhuzi, I think we need to get a new place. You live in yours, I live in mine.”
Ning Qianqian kept hugging Ning Hanzhu. “Sister, I missed you so much.”
Ning Hanzhu, “?”
Talk of splitting the household the moment they returned—how absurd.
Buying a house was indeed inevitable, though. After all, this house had been arranged for them by Second Miss Luo back then. With money in her pocket now, Ning Hanzhu felt full of confidence. “Sure; not tomorrow, but the day after. The day after, we can go look at houses when we have time.”
Lu Yutang made an “understood” gesture and then dove headfirst into surfing the net, looking just like a net-addicted teenager.
Ning Hanzhu ignored him. She picked up Ning Qianqian and bounced her. “A few days apart, and Qianqian seems a bit fatter. But little friends should be chubby; that makes them even cuter.”
Ning Qianqian had baby fat on her face; when she smiled, two cute dimples appeared. Her diet had improved so much compared to on Elfa Star that she naturally gained weight. “Sister, my classmates are all so nice. They share snacks with me every day.”
“Wow, our Qianqian is amazing—making so many new friends so quickly.”
“Hee hee hee, they even invited me to visit their homes.”
Ning Hanzhu naturally let out another “wow.” The friendships between little friends were the purest. Ning Qianqian had had no friends back on Elfa Star, but now she seemed much more outgoing than before.
Going to school had truly been the right choice.
“When? Sister will make you some little snacks to bring over.”
“I have not agreed yet.”
It was really that the number of classmates inviting her was a bit much.
She felt that if she agreed to this one, the others would be unhappy. Ning Qianqian sighed. It was so hard.
Ning Hanzhu was already thinking about what snacks would suit the little friends and had no idea what Ning Qianqian was fretting over.
The next day, Ning Hanzhu arrived early at the appointed location. She held a blue moon in her hand. In truth, she knew little about interstellar flowers and had subconsciously chosen this one as the secret signal because she had seen Xu Yuqing like it before.
She found a seat by the window, where the afternoon sunlight dappled over her. Ning Hanzhu idly watched the door. Every time someone entered, she could not help looking over.
Before coming, she had speculated about what kind of person the boss of Yijiansheye might be—an elder, a youth, or a woman; in any case, someone who loved food.
From the fact that Yijiansheye spanned dozens of planets, though, they were probably a very shrewd merchant. Merchants pursued profit by nature, so that contract seemed somewhat strange, even full of contradictions.
Ning Hanzhu decided that if anything seemed off, she would withdraw immediately.
Ding-a-ling—
Someone entered.
Ning Hanzhu raised her head and first saw a pair of hands in white gloves, holding a blue moon. It seemed this was her. Her gaze traveled upward and met a familiar cool face.
That exquisite face bore a faint smile.
She froze. As Xu Yuqing walked toward her step by step, Ning Hanzhu’s heart thumped loudly; she even found the sound very noisy, very intrusive. Xu Yuqing saw her stunned expression and smiled in her eyes. “What, unhappy to see me here?”
Ning Hanzhu shook her head.
It was really more shock than joy. She had thought of a thousand possibilities but never imagined that the boss behind Yijiansheye was Xu Yuqing.
Upon second thought, though, it did not seem so surprising. She had learned about Yijiansheye from Xu Yuqing, after all.
She foolishly extended her hand.
Xu Yuqing looked puzzled at that hand of hers. “You do not look very happy like this.”
Ning Hanzhu pouted. She truly was not that happy. “Did you offer that especially generous contract because you knew the streamer was me?”
No wonder those contract terms had seemed like a pie from the sky.
And now she was certain: a pie had indeed fallen on her head. That pie was called Xu Yuqing.
Xu Yuqing placed the blue moon in her hand next to Ning Hanzhu’s flower. “It was not hard to recognize you at all. But at first, it was not me who discovered you. Before me, Old Wu had already been following your live stream room and intended to contact you.”
Ning Hanzhu half-believed it. “The one who sent me the private message in the backend?”
Xu Yuqing nodded.
“As for the terms drafted in the contract, they were the result of discussions among the higher-ups. Ning Hanzhu, are you completely unaware of your own value?”
“Hm? What value?”
Xu Yuqing removed her gloves and ordered two cups of tea. “To be honest with you, Yijiansheye’s development has entered a stagnant period. The head chef cannot produce new dishes; every month, it is just those same repeated foods over and over. Our diners have already started to complain. Even if you did not appear, Old Wu would seek out newcomers everywhere. It is just that your appearance happened to meet our expectations perfectly.”
“Plus, they tasted the food you made in the live stream room and found it very satisfactory, so we offered our sincerity.”
Ning Hanzhu had never known that Xu Yuqing’s mouth, besides being infuriating, could actually say such wonderful and moving words.
She felt embarrassed now.
Just then, the tea arrived.
Xu Yuqing took a leisurely sip. “So, what have you decided?”
If she had suspected the other of ill intentions at first, now all her doubts vanished completely. What did Xu Yuqing lack? She could not possibly deceive her for her body, nor harvest her kidneys.
Moreover, she could now be considered a popular streamer. If the dishes she made became signature dishes at Yijiansheye, it would be a win-win for her and Yijiansheye.
Ning Hanzhu thought for a moment and understood. “Let me confirm once more: every month, I just need to provide one or two signature dishes for your Yijiansheye, and I do not even need to show up?”
Xu Yuqing nodded. “You can continue being your food streamer. However, for the signature dishes you provide each month, you might need to teach them. Do you mind taking on apprentices?”
She had heard Luo Tianran mention the failed attempts to replicate the dishes. Plenty of people on the starnet found them very hard to learn; they followed the live stream exactly, but the resulting flavor and appearance differed from Ning Hanzhu’s by a hundred and eight thousand miles.
Taking on apprentices was something she had not considered.
But if she could spread the gourmet food culture accumulated by predecessors in this way, she was very willing.
After the two discussed the details, Xu Yuqing sent her the prepared electronic contract. “If there are no other issues, you can sign it.”
Ning Hanzhu read the contract front to back once more and was just about to sign when a face suddenly appeared by the window. She gasped in fright.
Upon focusing, it was still a familiar person.
Luo Tianran’s face was nearly pressed to the glass as she looked at Ning Hanzhu like she had seen a ghost. This, this was the food streamer she had craved for so long?
Xu Yuqing lazily spoke up to remind her. “Sign it; no need to mind her.”
Ning Hanzhu felt Luo Tianran looked like she was about to eat someone, but she still quickly signed her name. Xu Yuqing received it promptly on her end.
With the contract signed, it took effect immediately.
She narrowed her eyes in satisfaction and thought of the recent missed deliveries. She licked her lips. “I think the octopus balls and stinky tofu can serve as this month’s new signature dishes.”
Ning Hanzhu, “???”
So quick to put her to work; too realistic.
