What to Do if You Mess With an Omega? - Chapter 37.2
Hasn’t Yan Bojing already become an ex with Xu Yuqing?
She still remembered that banquet.
Luo Tianran suppressed the urge to roll her eyes. “Please, Miss Du, get this straight. It is your Yan Bojing who clings to our Sister Xu. Sister Xu has clearly rejected him many times. And how exactly do you suggest making him give up? You cannot possibly want our Sister Xu to find an Alpha and marry immediately, right?”
Du Wenmei did indeed harbor that very idea.
Even when Yan Bojing was dead drunk and held her, the name he mumbled was still Xu Yuqing’s. She hated it.
Xu Yuqing, “Miss Du, I have not seen him in a long time. I do not know why that would give you such a misunderstanding. Excuse me.”
She tugged at Luo Tianran, who still wanted to say more.
Luo Tianran simply disliked Du Wenmei’s habit of chasing after an Alpha. “Such a lapdog—ridiculous. Sister Xu, why did you not let me call her out?”
Xu Yuqing, “I think she is about to cry.”
Ning Hanzhu turned her head and clearly saw Du Wenmei’s eyes redden, as if her tears would wash away today’s makeup, making her gaze toward them oddly fierce.
The two locked eyes briefly.
Du Wenmei turned and left.
When Ning Hanzhu withdrew her gaze, her peripheral vision caught a figure vanishing in the corner in an instant. She simply ignored it and sought out the food table instead.
Wen Yuan Shuang was very busy today. Just greeting guests made her want to shut herself away. When she heard Xu Yuqing had arrived, she hurried over personally to welcome her.
Along the way, someone bumped into her, spilling the wine in her hand. Fortunately, it did not stain her clothes. The person who had collided with her, however, fell to the ground.
“Are you all right?”
“Do you need me to call a doctor?”
“No need.”
That person scrambled up and ran off.
Wen Yuan Shuang paid no mind to this little interlude. She simply got another glass of wine and slowed her steps. She had to stay steady, steady.
Ning Hanzhu soon found the food table. She sampled some spicy dishes and grew increasingly convinced the flavors seemed familiar. She could not help frowning.
“These are all signature dishes from Yijiansheye.”
“???”
Yang Xiu held a tray behind her. “Madam Hua is infamous as a kitchen killer. Even if she wants to cook, no one dares to eat it.”
Good grief.
No wonder Wen Yuan Shuang had looked like she had seen a ghost when Xu Yuqing said she would come taste her handiwork.
Ning Hanzhu lost all interest. She had thought there might be some unexpected gourmet food. These past few days, she had been at Yijiansheye teaching apprentices and eating the staff meals there.
No different from what lay before her now.
Ning Hanzhu casually picked a couple of desserts for show and prepared to find a corner to pass this boring banquet. But with every step she took, footsteps shadowed her.
She stopped, and the person behind her stopped too.
Ning Hanzhu could not help turning back. “Do you have something to say to me?”
Last time, this person had suddenly and inexplicably said something to her. Ning Hanzhu still appreciated that gesture, so she looked at him patiently.
Yang Xiu, who stood at 1.86 meters with a physique among the top for Alphas—slightly taller than Ning Hanzhu—now fidgeted and scratched his head.
“If you do not say it, I am leaving.”
“Sigh, wait.”
Yang Xiu actually looked down on Ning Hanzhu at all. He knew best what kind of person she had been on Elfa Star: a bit brave but not much, poor and no different from the West Street crowd. The stereotype lingered in his mind.
But he also truly admired her knack for pleasing Omegas. At least while by Luo Tianran’s side, he had learned quite a bit about her.
For instance, Miss Yuqing’s attitude toward her was special.
For instance, the hottest streamer on the capital star right now was this very person before him.
He looked down on her while also envying her fiercely. Though he was Luo Tianran’s guardian, he was not the only one.
“Could you… teach me how to cook?”
“Sure.”
His solemn attitude startled Ning Hanzhu greatly. She could not guarantee other things, but cooking? That was simple enough, was it not?
“Ah?”
“What ah? Then it is settled. Come find me at Yijiansheye tomorrow. Do not forget.”
Ning Hanzhu made the appointment with him and left, leaving Yang Xiu behind in disarray. He had even prepared himself for Ning Hanzhu to mock him.
And that was it?
Ning Hanzhu walked away lightly, in high spirits. After all, she had snagged another apprentice willing to learn cooking. Once this batch graduated, she could temporarily step back.
Thinking of it, she felt she had fallen for Xu Yuqing’s trick.
What was that about showing up once every half year?
Just teaching octopus balls and stinky tofu had kept her at Yijiansheye for several days, most of which passed in tasting and critiquing.
She had truly underestimated Capitalist Xu.
Clang—
Two sounds of breaking glass suddenly rang in her ears.
In such a noisy environment, it was hard for anyone to notice. But Ning Hanzhu had opened her senses just in case. She quickly scanned the crowd and soon spotted two people in the corner.
“Tianran, what is wrong?”
“I… I do not feel well.”
Luo Tianran felt a wave of heat surge from her lower abdomen. Her mind blanked for a moment. She grabbed Xu Yuqing’s hand. “Sister Xu, I feel something is off with me.”
Xu Yuqing had already smelled the thick fragrance emanating from her—poppy flower scent. The floral aroma hit too strongly, even making her a bit dizzy. “Your heat is supposed to be two months after mine.”
“Yes.”
So it was all the stranger.
Xu Yuqing had experienced heats herself. After an Omega came of age, they had one every half year. Those without partners could only endure it alone by force. Those with partners needed their Alpha by their side.
Xu Yuqing knew all too well what that felt like: like a million ants crawling over one’s body, with the mind fixated on one thing—to find an Alpha to help resolve it.
But the more that happened, the more she despised herself for it.
“Where is your inhibitor?”
Luo Tianran felt her mind about to burn away. She vaguely heard Xu Yuqing ask where her inhibitor was. What inhibitor? She did not need that kind of thing.
Slap—
” Luo Tianran, snap out of it. Where is the inhibitor?”
“In the car—no, Yang Xiu.”
Even saying that took her tremendous effort.
Luo Tianran felt her whole body burn, her legs go weak. She seemed to take a few steps but had not actually left the corner. An Alpha not far away, drawn by her pheromones, suddenly charged over.
“Get lost.”
“Ning Hanzhu.”
Ning Hanzhu suddenly heard Xu Yuqing call her name. She shouted back, “I am here.” She sped up. The closer she got to that corner, the more clearly she sensed the Alphas in the room growing irritable. They let out restless growls—a very strange feeling.
If she had to describe it, it was like the magnetic field had gone haywire, making one deeply uncomfortable.
“An Omega is in heat.”
“Everyone, evacuate quickly.”
Ning Hanzhu’s hairs stood on end at those two phrases.
Omegas in heat drew surrounding Alphas into chaos. If uncontrolled, people could die. She shoved through the crowd and saw two fellows closing in on Luo Tianran and Xu Yuqing from left and right.
Her heart sank.
Had Xu Yuqing gone into heat?
“You two look all proper, so how can you do something so ungentlemanly?”
She grabbed one man’s shoulder, but he whipped around and swung a fist at her.
!!!
Ning Hanzhu’s face nearly took the hit.
Furious, she returned a punch. She could not just stand there and take it. That punch landed solidly on his face, and he toppled like a roly-poly doll, going limp.
Ning Hanzhu, “?”
Had her fists become this powerful?
“Scram.”
Xu Yuqing’s voice immediately pulled her back to reality. Seeing more and more people swarm toward the corner, she punched the one harassing Xu Yuqing and kicked him away. “Are you all right? What is going on?”
Xu Yuqing’s face flushed as she panted and glanced at her, only to meet Ning Hanzhu’s eyes full of worry. “You… you did not smell it?”
Smell what?
Ning Hanzhu nearly blurted it out. Her gaze darted: first to the group of people eyeing them hungrily, their eyes red like mindless puppets; then to Luo Tianran on the ground, tugging at her clothes. She secretly felt relieved it was not Xu Yuqing.
“Second Miss is in heat. We can only—” Ning Hanzhu could not help shouting toward where she had come from. “Yang Xiu, Second Miss needs you.”
“…”
Right after she shouted, someone lunged at the defenseless Luo Tianran. Ning Hanzhu truly did not want to fight. “I mean, you all lack any sense of honor.”
And a bunch of people bullying one girl—utterly shameless.
The group charged at her. How could she just watch them bully someone? Especially since these were her friends. She could only clench her fists and fight back. Coldly, someone kicked her twice, igniting her temper.
But she could not just leave Luo Tianran like this either.
“Xu Yuqing, you take her and leave first.”
“No, it is more dangerous for her to go out like this.”
An Omega’s pheromones attracted Alphas from a hundred li around. Those affected Alphas would chase them like hyenas until they tore them apart completely.
Xu Yuqing glanced upstairs, scooped up the person, but Luo Tianran slid down like a boneless heap. Xu Yuqing could only slap her awake forcefully. “Tianran, snap out of it.”
Luo Tianran regained a bit of awareness. “It hurts.”
Xu Yuqing, “Where does it hurt?”
Luo Tianran actually felt uncomfortable everywhere, but one spot hurt most. “My face.”
Xu Yuqing felt a pang of guilt.
She simply seized the moment while Luo Tianran still had some awareness and dragged her to the right. But after two steps, another crowd surrounded them.
Yang Xiu had still been holding food. Seeing the situation turn bad, he charged over and fought his way in from outside. Seeing Luo Tianran flushed and delirious, his hands trembled slightly. “Miss Yuqing, you and Miss take the lead and go first.”
Xu Yuqing saw that he had maintained some rationality.
“Take us upstairs.”
“Yes.”
