What to Do if You Mess With an Omega? - Chapter 7
Slap—
The crisp sound silenced the noisy diner for a moment.
“Pervert.”
“!!?”
She hadn’t done anything—how was she a pervert?
The cold word spat from Xu Yuqing’s mouth carried an indescribable anger. She stood and left, leaving the crowd with an undeniably elegant silhouette.
The onlookers’ gazes toward Ning Hanzhu shifted from curious gossip to silent condemnation.
Look, that’s the Alpha playing the pervert.
Ning Hanzhu had only heard of tongues getting twisted in the wind, never imagining she’d one day bite her own tongue tip over an unvoiced explanation.
Not only did her cheek sting, but her tongue ached too.
Ning Qianqian, startled by the scene, shrank under the table. Only when Xu Yuqing’s figure faded into the distance did she peek out. “Sister, Pretty Sister’s gone.”
Let her go.
Spoiled brat.
“Forget her. Let’s eat, hiss.”
“Sister, Qianqian will blow on it. No pain, no pain.”
“Good girl, Qianqian. Sister’s fine. You eat first—you must be starving.”
Ning Hanzhu was fuming. Xu Yuqing had humiliated her in front of everyone without leaving her any dignity.
Didn’t she care about face?
Calling her a pervert—her reputation was already shaky, and now it was thoroughly trashed.
Xu Yuqing clearly hadn’t seen a real pervert. All she did was sniff—
Wait a second.
Ning Qianqian noticed her pause mid-bite. The little one was stuffing her face, cheeks bulging like a squirrel hoarding for winter, eyes round and wide. “Nom nom.”
In an ABO world, sniffing someone’s pheromones was highly improper, especially near their neck.
In the books she’d read, Alphas loved biting Omegas’ necks during intimate moments, injecting pheromones into their glands to form a knot and complete the marking.
So just now, sniffing at Xu Yuqing’s gland area like that…
It was exactly like something a creepy pervert would do.
Realizing what she’d done, Ning Hanzhu felt like she was falling apart. Her chopstick-holding hand trembled like an old woman with Parkinson’s. “Qianqian, I think I really did act like a pervert to Pretty Sister. What do I do?”
No wonder someone as refined as Xu Yuqing had slapped her in a fit of rage.
Ning Qianqian swallowed her food quickly and pointed to the side, where a metallic suitcase gleamed with presence.
Great.
She was so mad she forgot her own stuff.
Ning Hanzhu had no appetite for the food in front of her, her mind racing with how to apologize to Xu Yuqing. In just a few breaths, she’d drafted several heartfelt apologies.
One minute passed.
Two minutes passed.
The table was still piled with food. Even with Ning Qianqian’s ravenous eating, Ning Hanzhu had ordered for three, and now her celebratory meal was ruined.
“Qianqian, how about we find Pretty Sister first? We’ll pack this food and eat it at home.”
“Okay!”
Ning Hanzhu quickly called the robot to pack the food.
Laden with bags and the suitcase, she led Ning Qianqian out, only to face a maze of roads and no idea where to look.
“Sister?”
“We’re in trouble.”
She didn’t even know Xu Yuqing’s full name, let alone her contact info.
Ning Hanzhu tugged at her hair in frustration. “She’s unfamiliar with Alpha Star and doesn’t know anyone. Where could she go?”
Ning Qianqian turned and pointed. “Pretty Sister went that way.”
Ning Hanzhu was shocked. “Qianqian, how do you know?”
Ning Qianqian had watched Xu Yuqing head that direction until she was out of sight.
They hurried after her, assuming Xu Yuqing’s leisurely pace wouldn’t take her far. But after nearly half an hour of walking with Ning Qianqian in her arms, there was no sign of her. “Qianqian, are you sure you saw Pretty Sister go this way?”
Ning Qianqian nodded, then hesitated and shook her head. “Can’t see anymore.”
Ning Hanzhu knew she couldn’t rely on a five-year-old. Xu Yuqing was an adult—maybe she’d taken another route for some reason.
“Qianqian, Sister needs to find Pretty Sister. It’s hard to carry all this stuff. I’ll take you to Auntie Lu’s first, and you wait there nicely until I come get you, okay?”
Ning Qianqian was used to being dropped off at the relief station when her sister had things to do. She’d be very good.
“Sister, will Pretty Sister come back?”
“She will.”
Her stuff was still here—where could she go?
Ning Hanzhu figured if she didn’t chase after Xu Yuqing, she might come back on her own. But the thought of such a beautiful person wandering alone in an unfamiliar place made her worry.
Alpha Star wasn’t her peaceful world. There were plenty of people here worse than Snake Bro. In the original owner’s memories, she and Ning Qianqian, while homeless, had witnessed a brutal turf war on West Street. The dead were disposed of like trash.
Many were orphans, their deaths unnoticed, existing alone and vanishing alone.
No one cared.
“Bamboo, where are you rushing off to?”
Ning Hanzhu, who’d been running around like a headless fly, saw Lu Yutang and felt like she’d found a lifeline. “Brother Lu, when did you get back? Never mind that—help me out.”
She described Xu Yuqing’s appearance and outfit in detail.
Lu Yutang, hearing this, nudged her shoulder playfully. “Well, well, haven’t seen you in a bit, and you’ve got yourself such a gorgeous girlfriend. Lucky you.”
Ning Hanzhu laughed helplessly. “Brother Lu, don’t tease. She’s completely unfamiliar with Alpha Star and is mad at me right now. Please, please help me find her.”
Lu Yutang patted his chest. “Leave it to me.”
They split up. Lu Yutang rallied his crew to search, while Ning Hanzhu asked around the route they’d been on.
“I saw her. A Beta that is pretty is hard to forget. She was heading toward the Zhenning River alone.”
“She lingered by the river for a bit, but then her Alpha came to pick her up, and they left together.”
“???”
What Alpha? Some scammer?
Ning Hanzhu asked urgently, “Which way did they go?”
The woman shrugged. “How would I know? It’s their business, not mine. Why are you so frantic? Who are you to her?”
Ning Hanzhu, “…”
Still in the mood to gossip—she must’ve seen something.
Ning Hanzhu’s face flushed, her voice weak. “I’m her Alpha. She’s mad at me today. I’m worried she ran into a con artist. Please, help me figure out where they went.”
As expected, her words earned a sympathetic look. The woman sized her up, then looked skeptical. “You? Landing someone that gorgeous? You’re not the con artist, are you?”
Ning Hanzhu, “!!!”
How dare she look down on her.
Fuming, Ning Hanzhu retorted, “You don’t get it. I save all my money for her. When she looks good, I look good. Unlike some Alphas, all shiny on the outside but rotten inside.”
The woman slapped her thigh, approving. “A good Alpha who spoils his wife.” She lamented, then pointed the way. “No wonder she seemed reluctant to go. Oh no, trouble. Hurry and get your wife back.”
“Thanks, thanks!”
Ning Hanzhu bolted, asking and searching along the way, watching the sun sink lower without finding Xu Yuqing.
“Where could she be?”
“Little Bamboo!”
“Yutang sent me to tell you we found who you’re looking for.”
The messenger was Uncle Bear, a towering, intimidating man with a booming voice that scared even Ning Qianqian.
Ning Hanzhu sighed in relief. “Good, you found her.”
She’d been terrified something might happen to Xu Yuqing because of her, a guilt she’d carry forever. But she soon realized her relief was premature.
At the destination, three groups stood in a standoff. Lu Yutang and his crew held their ground, Snake Bro and his gang were there too, and a third group, led by someone she recognized.
The three sides eyed each other, tension thick in the air. In the center, Xu Yuqing sat leisurely sipping tea, surrounded like a star, looking as if she were watching a show from a theater box.
“W-What’s going on?”
“The West Street boss took a liking to your friend and wants to take her back.”
“???”
Ning Hanzhu thought she’d misheard. Otherwise, why did every word make sense, but together it didn’t? “Brother Lu, who did you say? Who’s taking who back?”
Lu Yutang gave her a pitying look. “When we found her, she was rejecting Yan Feipeng. He tried to carry her off, so she made a call and brought in that lot—yep, that snake over there.”
Ning Hanzhu’s heart sank.
“Fishpond, don’t call me ‘that snake.’ I’m your senior. Show some respect.”
Lu Yutang scoffed. “You? My senior?”
Snake Bro was livid. Spotting the stunned Ning Hanzhu, he cursed his decision to take Xu Yuqing’s money for so-called protection.
It had landed him in this mess.
“Ning Hanzhu!!!”
“No need to shout. I hear you.”
Ignoring the furious Snake Bro, Ning Hanzhu walked toward Xu Yuqing. She opened her mouth, but all the apologies she’d rehearsed that afternoon vanished.
She couldn’t wrap her head around it.
In just one afternoon.
How could this woman cause such a huge mess?
