- What to Do, I've Been Targeted by the Villain Again [Quick Transmigration]
- Chapter 12 - Who Even Snitches These Days?
Xu Sangning’s lips twitched as she glanced at the cocky guy acting like he owned the place, then pulled out her phone.
She couldn’t shove these guys into the company, but she sure as hell could make sure they didn’t get hired. If people like them got in, trouble would follow—probably thinking every girl in the office had a crush on him.
“LOL, give it a couple days, and he’ll probably claim you’re into him,” Lu Yu cackled, barely able to catch her breath.
“Are you getting back at me for accidentally ditching you in the game last night?” Xu Sangning frowned. “If he dares spread that kind of disgusting rumor, I’ll teach him exactly why flowers are so red.”
“And then he’ll say the red is because of your love—”
Xu Sangning clapped a hand over Lu Yu’s mouth. “Shut it. If you keep grossing me out, you’re not mooching off my meals for the next month.”
Lu Yu’s expression instantly turned serious. “Your Majesty, I am your royal guard. If he dares disgust you, I’ll turn them all into red bean paste!”
Xu Sangning shot her a disdainful look. “I’d be happy if you just shut up.”
Rubbing her temples, she glanced down at her phone to see Ji Ying had sent her a crying emoji.
Xu Sangning: What’s wrong?
Ji Ying: Work headache.
Xu Sangning narrowed her eyes. If she had to guess, it was probably a system task.
Xu Sangning: Hang in there!
She sent a supportive sticker, offering comfort.
Xu Sangning: Just had three guys come up to me, demanding I create three job positions for them.
Ji Ying: ?
Ji Ying: ??
Xu Sangning: I refused, and then they had the nerve to threaten me.
Ji Ying: I can’t believe people like that exist…
Ji Ying propped her chin on her hand, eyes narrowing.
Ji Ying: Thanks. Suddenly, I’ve got an idea.
Xu Sangning: ?
Ji Ying had an epiphany. The world was full of lunatics—what harm was there in adding one more?
Besides, the Ji and Xu families already overlapped in business. Snatching a bit from Xu Qiexing’s side? Totally normal. It wouldn’t even look crazy. Her reputation wasn’t great to begin with, anyway—this would just cement her as ruthless. As long as her real motives stayed hidden, no one would think she was an idiot.
Ji Ying clenched her fist.
The system yawned, watching as Ji Ying conjured up eight hundred justifications for herself.
Ji Ying: To thank you, let me treat you to dinner tonight.
Xu Sangning: Ah, I can’t—already made plans to go shopping with a friend. No need to thank me!
Ji Ying: You’re the one being too polite.
Xu Sangning: Class is starting! Gotta go! Big sis, focus on work!
Ji Ying sighed and slumped onto the desk. “When will I ever get to hang out with her properly?”
System: As long as she’s tied to missions, probably never… Unless you work hard to compensate for her losses?
Ji Ying checked her bank balance and closed her eyes.
The system took a peek too, then burst into merciless laughter.
—
Xu Sangning had to admit—Lu Yu’s mouth had a way of predicting things.
Within days, whispers started circulating in class. Most people knew exactly what those guys were like, so they treated it as a joke. No one took it seriously.
But Xu Sangning was still furious. No one liked hearing rumors about themselves. Even if no one believed them for now, who knew how far they might spread? If people didn’t know the two of them, the gossip-loving crowd’s attitude would definitely shift.
“What kind of trash is he, claiming I’m jealous of his talent and that’s why I won’t give him opportunities to shine?”
“What? He even said I don’t know what’s good for me? That I’m treating him badly because of some ‘love turned to hate’? Hah, does he think he’s the protagonist of some underdog revenge novel?” Xu Sangning took a deep breath.
Her eyes rolled so hard they nearly disappeared into her skull. While the main leads’ storyline had stalled, hers was getting more and more dramatic—now she even had a malicious cannon fodder character! This wasn’t supposed to be her script.
The next day, Xu Sangning deliberately arrived early to the classroom, pinpointed his seat, and in front of everyone, slammed her bag into his face.
“Holy sh1t, that bag’s worth over 800,000! Use mine to hit him!” Lu Yu, standing beside her, hopped in agitation. “Ugh, why would you let such a beautiful bag touch his filthy face?”
As she spoke, Lu Yu swapped out Xu Sangning’s bag. Xu Sangning shot her an exasperated glance.
The guy clutched his face, glaring at Xu Sangning with clenched fists, looking like he wanted to fight back—but in reality, his body was already pressed tightly against the desk behind him, defensive.
“What was your name again? Never mind, I don’t really remember, and it’s not important.” Xu Sangning looked down at him with arrogant disdain. “Do you know why you got hit?”
“I was just talking sh1t in the dorm… but it was just talk! What harm did it do to you? Can’t I even say whatever I want? You’re so tyrannical!” he shouted loudly, but his voice trembled, shaking the desk beneath him.
“Just having your name associated with mine is damage enough. My reputation is worth more than your life.” Xu Sangning scoffed. She’d been speaking softly and gently in front of Ji Ying for so long that she’d almost forgotten her own persona as the arrogant, spoiled young miss. “Running your mouth outside, I thought you’d have more backbone.”
“‘Love turned to hate,’ huh?” Xu Sangning stared at him coldly. “Don’t bother job hunting. Have your parents take you to get some treatment instead—spare the world from your nonsense.”
These kinds of things were already messy enough. If he entered the workforce, who knew how many people would suffer? It’d be even harder to deal with then.
“What are you going to do?”
“Not giving you opportunities to shine, just like you said. Consider it a fulfilled expectation—no need to thank me.” Xu Sangning smirked.
The class monitor, sitting not far away, shot Xu Sangning an admiring look and gave her a thumbs-up. “Well done.”
God knew how infuriated she’d been when that damn rumor reached her ears. Quite a few people around her had heard it, and she’d spent ages debunking it. Thankfully, she was just a nobody, and her friends were decent—some even actively helped dispel the rumors when asked, so the situation died down quickly.
“Oh, and I expect the rumors to stop in this classroom. If they spread further, I’ll trace them back.” Xu Sangning swept her gaze across the class.
“Talk sh1t, get hit—now you’ve kicked an iron plate.” Lu Yu handed the bag back to Xu Sangning. “That’ll teach you to spout nonsense in the future.”
Xu Sangning glanced at the bag with distaste. “Do you want it?”
“Huh?”
“It touched his filthy face. I don’t want it anymore.” She gave it a dismissive look.
“Sure.” Lu Yu nodded.
“Here, you can have this one. Just give me your bag and transfer your stuff over.”
“Sure thing!” Lu Yu cheerfully followed behind Xu Sangning.
Somehow, word of this incident reached Ji Ying’s ears. That evening, when Xu Sangning returned home, she found a gift box hanging on her door. Inside was a brand-new bag—the exact one she had been eyeing for days but hadn’t gotten around to buying yet.
Xu Sangning: Why did you suddenly give me a bag?
Ji Ying: Lu Yu mentioned you lost one today. I happened to see this one and thought it suited you.
Xu Sangning: So it was her. When did you add her? And she actually snitched to you?
Xu Sangning narrowed her eyes suspiciously. Something about this felt off—like there was something going on between those two that she didn’t know about.
Ji Ying: Should I delete her then?
Xu Sangning: That’s not necessary.
Ji Ying: Already done.
Ji Ying: Sorry, I was just worried something might have happened to you at school.
Lying on the couch, Xu Sangning held her phone up, typing out a reply when—smack—it slipped and hit her square in the face. She gasped in pain, flailing momentarily before hearing Ji Ying’s voice.
“What’s wrong?”
Clutching her nose, Xu Sangning instinctively glanced at her phone, staring silently at Ji Ying’s face on the screen.
