Company Anonymous Gossip Group—
When Will the Old Bastard Die: Holy sh1t! 36th floor—the young miss is putting the old bastard in his place! Who the hell said she was a good-for-nothing spoiled brat? If she’s a spoiled brat, then she’s the goddamn glory of spoiled brats!
Onlooker 1.0: I’m here. The young miss said she wanted to see how he works and made him stay overtime to finish all the piled-up documents today. LMAO.
Work is Suffering: This guy’s a real idiot. Most of those files aren’t even urgent, but he forces people to work overtime on them. And so much of it is unnecessary busywork. Someone brought it up before, and ha—this dumbass said, “Don’t spend all day staring at your superiors.”
Onlooker 1.0: The old bastard looks like he’s about to lose it. The young miss is checking the backend to see which files he hasn’t reviewed. Turns out there’s a ton he hasn’t touched, and he’s claiming they’re not important. Then she asked him why he’s assigning so much useless work to employees. HAHAHA.
Onlooker 1.0: The old bastard tried to argue it wasn’t useless, stammering and spewing nonsense, but the young miss cut him off and told him to finish everything before leaving. AHHH, I don’t even want to clock out—I just want to keep watching this drama!
Onlooker 2.0: The young miss even went to make coffee. Looks like she’s planning to camp here all night.
The anonymous group chat was exploding with messages.
At 10 PM, the office was still packed—far more people than usual had stayed late.
Xu Sangning leaned back in her chair, draped in a small blanket, sitting just a meter away from the supervisor as she scrolled through her phone.
The supervisor kept glancing at her, his expression pained, but Xu Sangning clearly wasn’t the type to engage in friendly conversation—and he had no idea how to talk to her anyway. Noticing the crowd of onlookers still lingering in the office, his face darkened further.
At 10:30, Xu Qiexing, having caught wind of the situation, came downstairs.
The supervisor looked at him like a drowning man spotting a lifeline. Whether Xu Qiexing was here to reprimand him or not, he just wanted to go home.
“President Xu…”
Xu Qiexing glanced at the supervisor, who had stood up. “I’m not here for you. Xu Sangning, come with me for a moment.”
Xu Sangning got up, left the blanket on her chair, and followed Xu Qiexing out. The crowd craned their necks in curiosity.
Normally, Xu Sangning wouldn’t have given Xu Qiexing the time of day, but since this was the office, they both had to maintain some decorum.
“You think the president’s gonna scold the young miss?”
“Probably not. And I doubt the young miss is the type to just take it.”
“So… you’re saying they might throw hands?”
“No idea how this is gonna play out.”
Xu Qiexing, of course, had no intention of scolding Xu Sangning. She was standing up for the employees—if he reprimanded her, he’d be the one getting roasted in private chats tomorrow. Besides, he didn’t see much wrong with her actions, even if they were a little childish.
“How far do you plan to take this?” Xu Qiexing asked, looking at her.
“You’re asking me?” Xu Sangning frowned. “I’m just making an example of him. How harsh that example should be is up to you, isn’t it?”
“I’m asking out of respect for you.”
“Let’s start by deducting his bonus. He violated company regulations and forced unnecessary work on employees… We can look for other mistakes later before firing him?” The supervisor’s salary was quite high, and terminating him outright would require significant compensation.
Just thinking about how this guy tormented so many people and could still take a break with severance pay was a bit irritating.
“Fine.” Xu Qiexing nodded. “Are you planning to stay here all night dealing with him?”
“No, I’m leaving soon. But I’ll tell him I’ll be reviewing the surveillance footage. I never said I’d stay with him until dawn.”
Xu Qiexing nodded again. “Then let’s go. I’ll take you home.”
Xu Sangning returned to the office, and the group of onlookers immediately turned their heads away.
Xu Sangning: “…”
“I’m heading home first, Supervisor. Take your time.”
The supervisor let out a sigh of relief.
“Oh, and I will be checking the surveillance footage,” Xu Sangning added with a smile. “I’ll also come by tomorrow morning to review the documents and discuss them with the relevant departments.”
Supervisor: “…”
“The rest of you should head home too if you’re off work,” Xu Sangning said to the others.
The group exchanged glances before a flurry of people stood up and began packing their things.
Watching the crowd leave, the supervisor finally felt a wave of frustration.
Xu Sangning’s new place was in the same residential complex as Xu Qiexing, just one building apart.
Originally, Xu Qiexing had suggested she stay at his place, but Xu Sangning refused.
No way—what if he wanted to go on a date with the female lead? She didn’t want to stumble into any awkward situations.
Picking up her bag, Xu Sangning glanced at Feng Xingwei, who was also packing up to leave.
Some people had stayed behind just to watch the drama, but Feng Xingwei genuinely had work to finish.
Feng Xingwei forced a smile at Xu Sangning.
“If you can’t smile, don’t force it. It’s normal for working people to not feel like smiling,” Xu Sangning said understandingly.
The two walked out together. Xu Sangning kept an eye on Xu Qiexing, only to find that he didn’t even glance at Feng Xingwei—as if she were just some irrelevant stranger.
Feng Xingwei, on the other hand, did look at Xu Qiexing, but only to keep her distance from the boss.
Xu Sangning: Something’s off. Very off.
But she couldn’t show any reaction, so she quietly followed Xu Qiexing into the elevator.
With Xu Qiexing present, the atmosphere was unusually tense. Everyone kept their heads down, glued to their phones—even those with nothing to look at pretended to scroll frantically.
“You should’ve taken the other elevator,” Xu Sangning remarked, yawning with her hands in her pockets.
Xu Qiexing: “…”
Someone stifled a laugh but didn’t dare let it out.
When they reached the first floor, the crowd rushed out. Four people remained in the elevator, looking even more uncomfortable.
At the basement level, the four silently followed Xu Qiexing into the parking lot before quickening their pace to get away.
Xu Sangning almost laughed. “I’m hungry.”
“Tough luck.”
“You’re so rude,” Xu Sangning said, shooting him a disdainful look. Half-teasing, half-probing, she added, “No wonder you’re still single—even Ji Ying can’t stand you.”
“I can’t stand Ji Ying either,” Xu Qiexing declared.
Xu Sangning: “…”
Wow, he really does dislike her—completely missing the other implications.
“I’m worried, Brother. Are you doomed to die alone?”
Xu Qiexing glanced at her. “Don’t worry about me. Worry about yourself.”
“Brother, you’ve grown up so much, but have you really never liked anyone?” Xu Sangning observed Xu Qiexing’s expression closely.
“Nope, and I haven’t had the time either,” Xu Qiexing replied with complete composure.
“What about at the company? Anyone you like there?”
Xu Qiexing laughed in exasperation. “What, did you come to the company just to dig up gossip about me?”
“Yep,” Xu Sangning nodded.
“No,” Xu Qiexing frowned deeply.
His expression showed no signs of hiding anything, so Xu Sangning leaned back in her chair.
The sky might as well have fallen.
If Xu Qiexing had no interest in Feng Xingwei, then Feng Xingwei certainly wouldn’t have any interest in him either.
What sane person could possibly like their company’s boss? Working overtime every day until this hour—falling for the boss would practically scream masochistic tendencies.
Although… the female lead of this novel did seem to have a bit of that.
Xu Sangning glanced at Xu Qiexing again before looking away.
Xu Qiexing felt unnerved by her stare.
Xu Sangning sighed.
Xu Qiexing was a little speechless. “You’re not even out of college yet, and you’re already acting like a middle-aged matchmaker?”
“No,” Xu Sangning propped her chin on her hand.
She was just utterly baffled about why the plot had taken such a turn.
It was probably Ji Ying’s fault.
Xu Sangning massaged her temples.
At least she had a safety net in this world, otherwise…
The supervisor worked overtime until the next morning but still hadn’t finished reviewing the documents. The first person to arrive on the 36th floor found him slumped over his desk, fast asleep. She gleefully recorded a video of him snoring.
Later, the supervisor had his pay docked for sleeping during work hours.
In the afternoon, he was called in for a talk, and the specific disciplinary measures were announced. Xu Qiexing even held a management meeting.
Before 6 p.m., all employees received a new notice emphasizing the need to “reduce unnecessary work and improve efficiency.” From then on, overtime work required a written explanation, with random checks to eliminate non-essential overtime.
Previously, Xu Qiexing hadn’t paid much attention to the lower-level operations. He’d never worked a regular job—his parents had groomed him from the start to take over the company. To him, as long as the company ran smoothly without issues, that was enough. He couldn’t understand why supervisors, once promoted, would flaunt their authority.
The office was filled with a cheerful atmosphere.
“I could cry. Oh my god, I think I can leave by seven today. The documents from the neighboring department held me up for two days, but they finally handed them over today.” Feng Xingwei pulled a box of chocolates from her drawer and offered it to Xu Sangning.
“No need, thanks.”
“They’re really good, try one,” Feng Xingwei insisted enthusiastically. “My uncle brought them back from abroad.”
“Alright.” Seeing Feng Xingwei’s eager expression, Xu Sangning reluctantly picked one.
“I’ll leave them here. Help yourself if you want more, no need to be shy.” Feng Xingwei smiled, her usual gloom finally lifting a little—now she resembled the female lead from the novel.
Another plot point was approaching.
The male lead was supposed to take the female lead to a banquet.
Xu Sangning was very curious how Xu Qiexing would manage to bring Feng Xingwei along when the two barely knew each other.
Meanwhile, Ji Ying was also grappling with the same problem.
