What's Wrong with My Love Rival Becoming My Wife? - Chapter 2
At this hour, hailing a taxi wasn’t easy.
Jiang Ning could have asked her family’s driver to take her, but the thought of what she was about to do made her feel guilty. She decided to sneak out and hail a cab instead.
Her conservative and traditional parents would never accept her confessing her feelings to another girl.
“My parents have been so tolerant of Lu Xu, giving him so many connections and resources. They must be planning for him to become their son-in-law, right?”
In truth, Jiang Ning’s guess was correct.
Her parents only had one daughter, and that daughter wasn’t particularly ambitious. All she cared about was dressing up and trailing after Lu Xu like a puppy, calling him “Brother Lu” at every turn.
However, the gap between their families was simply too vast.
Lu Xu, who came from an utterly humble background, wasn’t even qualified to be Jiang Ning’s father’s driver, let alone the Jiang Family’s only son-in-law.
Over the past three years, Jiang Ning had quarreled with her family countless times over Lu Xu.
She had tried everything: crying, tantrums, even threatening to hang herself.
By now, her parents were truly exhausted by her constant pestering and finally relented, no longer strongly opposing her relationship with Lu Xu.
“Sigh, she’s truly blinded by love.”
In the vast sea of memories flooding her mind, Jiang Ning saw her parents as genuinely kind, upright, and virtuous people.
They had spent their entire lives doing good deeds, only to be cursed with Jiang Ning, a prodigal daughter who betrayed her family. It was truly tragic!
Jiang Ning leaned against the taxi window, gazing thoughtfully at the city lights flashing past in the night.
Since she could never return to her former life, she resolved to manage this new identity and the Jiang Family properly.
In the future, she would never allow the Jiang Family to fall into Lu Xu’s hands, becoming his stepping stone to success!
“We’re here, Miss. Bluebird KTV is on the fifth floor of this hotel. Have a good night!”
The taxi driver dropped Jiang Ning off.
She looked up at the brightly lit, colorful building, her eyes narrowing slightly.
To be fair, despite being both poor and pretentious, Lu Xu certainly knew how to enjoy life!
Every place he chose for meeting clients was lavish, extravagant, and oozed luxury.
No wonder people at school had such wildly inaccurate ideas about his background.
Jiang Ning took a deep breath.
She smoothed her wind-tossed hair and strode purposefully toward the building’s entrance, neither hurrying nor dawdling.
“It’s time for a showdown.”
“The privileges I granted him must be revoked.”
“I need to remind Lu Xu exactly who he is!”
Fifth floor.
Outside the most luxurious private room.
Jiang Ning had just stepped out of the elevator when she encountered Xu Xin, the manager of Bluebird KTV, who was holding a bill and about to call her.
“Oh, Miss Jiang, you’ve come at just the right time!” Manager Xu greeted her with a beaming smile, wiping cold sweat from her forehead. “I was just about to call you when you arrived. You see, it’s the end of the month, so would you mind settling this month’s bill?”
“The bill?” Jiang Ning casually accepted the stack of invoices Manager Xu handed her.
Good heavens, it was a thick pile!
It seemed Lu Xu had been coming here every two or three days on average. What a lavish lifestyle!
Jiang Ning flipped through the invoices. Almost every one was for over five thousand yuan, with some reaching as high as twenty thousand yuan.
He dared to spend so freely entirely because Jiang Ning had spoiled him.
Jiang Ning often said, “Put it on my tab. Don’t make things difficult for Brother Lu.”
Lu Xu would protest, “I’m a man with hands and feet. I don’t need you to support me,” yet he always walked out without paying, leaving Jiang Ning to clean up the mess.
Honestly!
He needs to be taught a lesson!
“How many times have you seen me come here this month?” Jiang Ning asked Manager Xu, her gaze cool.
“Uh, well, you see…”
Manager Xu knew perfectly well that Jiang Ning hadn’t visited Bluebird at all this month. She forced a bitter smile.
“You… you haven’t been here.”
Jiang Ning hummed in acknowledgment. “Good. Since I haven’t been here, why are there so many bills?”
She was asking a question she already knew the answer to.
Just as she finished speaking, the door to the private room swung open.
Wang Shishi emerged, supporting the utterly drunk Lu Xu, intending to take him to the open-air balcony for some fresh air to sober him up.
When she looked up and saw Jiang Ning’s cold expression, her temper flared instantly.
“Hey, Jiang Ning, what took you so long?” Wang Shishi demanded, her tone self-righteous. “Hurry up and settle the bill, then book a few rooms on the eighth floor. Get some light, tasty late-night snacks sent up to the rooms—and make it quick!”
She barked orders at Jiang Ning as if she were her personal servant.
Jiang Ning almost laughed. “Who are you again?”
Wang Shishi: “I…”
“We’re not exactly close, are we?”
“Jiang! Ning! What… what did you just say?”
“I said we’re not close. Stop bossing me around. Did you hear me clearly this time?”
Wang Shishi gasped, her eyes widening as she stared at Jiang Ning in disbelief, as if she were looking at an eight-tentacled alien creature.
Her expression, a twisted blend of shock and anger, was almost grotesque.
After choking for what felt like an eternity, Wang Shishi finally spat out through clenched teeth, “Hey! The one I’m supporting is your boyfriend, not mine!”
Jiang Ning raised an eyebrow. “Oh? You’re saying he’s my boyfriend?”
“Yes!”
Jiang Ning chuckled. “Don’t go around making baseless accusations. Where’s your evidence? Show me.”
“Evidence? Does it even need evidence? Everyone here knows…”
Jiang Ning shook her head and sighed. “If you’re talking about what everyone knows, I can think of at least two people who don’t. First, me. And second, the one you’re propping up right now.”
Hearing this, Wang Shishi frowned and instinctively glanced at Lu Xu.
Lu Xu was completely unconscious from intoxication, unable to offer any response.
As an outsider, what could she possibly say about someone else’s relationship?
Jiang Ning’s gaze locked onto Wang Shishi. “So, do you have any actual evidence to prove we’re a couple?”
Wang Shishi, unnerved by Jiang Ning’s intense gaze, her voice faltered.
“What evidence are you talking about? Everyone knows it! Why would I need evidence? Besides, if you’re not his girlfriend, why did you rush over here the moment he called?”
“Who said I came for him?” Jiang Ning shook her head with a smile. “I doubt he’s the only person in this private room, is he?”
Wang Shishi opened her mouth to speak, then hesitated, saying nothing.
After all, she wasn’t stupid.
She could clearly see that the Jiang Ning before her tonight was completely different from the Jiang Ning she had known before.
The Jiang Ning of today had shed her usual meekness.
The full force of a wealthy heiress’s aura could easily intimidate a girl from a modest background.
Jiang Ning turned to Manager Xu.
“Remember this: I have no connection to these people, especially no financial ties. From now on, you know how to handle their accounts, right?”
“Ah? This, this…”
Jiang Ning’s cold and ruthless demeanor was a stark contrast to the Jiang Ning Manager Xu had known.
The invisible pressure unique to the wealthy and powerful forced Manager Xu to lower her head and meekly agree.
“Understood, Miss Jiang.”
As for Wang Shishi, her jaw nearly dropped in shock.
Does this mean Jiang Ning is really cutting ties with Lu Xu?
Then, the bill for the private room…
Remembering the several bottles of expensive foreign liquor Lu Xu had ordered that night, Wang Shishi’s eyelids twitched involuntarily. She instinctively released her grip on Lu Xu’s arm.
Seizing the moment before anyone noticed her, Wang Shishi abandoned the slumped Lu Xu on the floor, grabbed her purse, and bolted.
If Lu Xu tries to split the bill, I can’t afford it! Better get out of here now!
Wang Shishi differed from the others in the room. Having known Lu Xu for a long time, she was well aware of his financial situation.
Given Lu Xu’s limited resources, his spending at Bluebird this month would undoubtedly drain his reserves.
This kid is in deep trouble—serious trouble!
