Chapter 16: Study Videos
Unable to fall asleep from insomnia, Song Cun simply got up and started memorizing lines. He didn’t fall asleep until the early hours of the morning.
But less than three hours later, his agent woke him up for makeup and filming.
“Didn’t sleep well last night?”
The makeup artist asked while applying makeup to Song Cun.
Agent Chen Jie also leaned over and noticed the faint dark circles under his eyes.
“Not used to being back on set so suddenly?”
Song Cun stared at his script and answered lightly,
“It’s nothing.”
Chen Jie joked, “Well, it works out. You’re playing a depressed supporting male character this time, and this lethargic look really suits the role.”
The makeup artist was surprised.
“Oh wow, Cun-ge, don’t tell me you stayed up all night for the sake of the role? That’s way too dedicated.”
Song Cun yawned. He really just had insomnia.
“But even sleep-deprived, a handsome guy is still handsome. It adds a kind of… what’s the word… ah right—‘fragile beauty’!”
Chen Jie picked up the comment, “When this airs, your face alone will kill off your looks-obsessed fans, haha.”
Song Cun suddenly thought of the repeated viewing history in the screening room—always his own movies.
Now that he was filming a new one, even if it was just a guest role…
Would that person watch it too?
Would they replay it over and over like before?
Would they look forward to it, like his fans?
“Of course. Our Song Cun debuted at the top of the Omega Dream Lover chart—truly a heartthrob of the people.”
Chen Jie kept bragging to the makeup artist. Song Cun didn’t have the heart to break his fantasy—Omega dream lover?
Please. I am an omega.
But he didn’t plan to correct it.
The entertainment industry was chaotic, with unspoken rules lurking everywhere. Omegas were especially easy targets. He didn’t want to bring unnecessary trouble on himself.
After makeup, Song Cun was taken to the filming set.
The morning shoot went smoothly. The director even praised him, asking if he’d secretly been honing his acting skills—said his performance was really good.
Even Song Cun was a bit stunned. That director was known more for yelling at people than praising them.
He hadn’t been working on his acting per se, but lately he had been holed up in the screening room watching movies—and occasionally, Qi Yan would join him. They’d talk about films and characters together.
At the time, Song Cun thought Qi Yan’s analysis was pretty professional and had even asked if he’d studied acting.
The answer was no, of course not.
Someone born into a billion-dollar family like him had received elite education from the start.
Later, Chen Jie came into the break room and handed Song Cun a boxed lunch. Though Song Cun usually looked aloof and proud, he was hardworking on set, never picky about hotels or food.
But today, he seemed to have no appetite. He poked at a few dishes half-heartedly and barely ate anything.
“Not to your taste? Or are you feeling unwell?”
Chen Jie asked.
Song Cun shook his head.
“No.”
He just realized Qi Yan had spoiled him—everything else now tasted bland.
His phone buzzed a few times on the table. Song Cun thought it might be a message from Qi Yan. He grabbed the phone, opened it—only to see it was from Lin Wan.
Lin Wan: Got rejected by the agency!!
Lin Wan: It’s definitely my dad’s doing! He even threatened me—said if I don’t go back home, he’ll set me up with another engagement!
Lin Wan: Waaah crying emoji.jpg
Lin Wan: This time it’s really the end of my entertainment career. Boohoo!
Song Cun replied:
Song Cun: Do a good job running the family company. Don’t let it go bankrupt.
Lin Wan: …………😑
Song Cun took a nap after lunch, but his afternoon shoot didn’t go as smoothly. His chemistry with the other actor felt off.
His scene partner was also a guest star—a newly debuted omega named Xu Yan.
They were playing a supporting couple, and there was a scene with a staged kiss.
Song Cun didn’t have much experience with romance scenes, so he focused more on finding the right camera angle, and his expression wasn’t very engaged. Xu Yan also looked quite green; both of them looked stiff as boards.
After several takes, the director grew impatient.
“How about you two just kiss for real? That way it’ll feel more genuine.”
Xu Yan glanced at Song Cun, face red, but said nothing.
But Song Cun insisted on sticking with the staged kiss.
After several more tries, the director finally gave a reluctant “pass.”
As they wrapped for the day, the director patted Song Cun’s shoulder and asked,
“You’ve never dated before, have you?”
Song Cun gave a slight smile and didn’t answer.
“With your looks, you’re bound to be a leading man in the future. Can’t avoid romance scenes. I suggest you start gaining some experience, so they won’t feel so awkward when filming later.”
Gain experience?
Before Song Cun could react, the director leaned in and lowered his voice,
“Find someone to date for practice!”
Find someone to date?!
For some reason, Qi Yan’s face flashed through Song Cun’s mind.
“Kidding, kidding. But you really can’t just casually date anyone. Especially you idol-type actors. Fall in love and your fans will riot. But it’s fine—I’ll send you a few short clips. Study them carefully when you get back. They’ll help with future scenes!”
“Thank you, Director.”
Song Cun’s mind was drifting, but he responded politely.
The director patted his shoulder again, with a “Kid, I believe in you” expression, then left.
That evening at the hotel, after showering, Song Cun sat on the sofa reading his script.
After half an hour, he was still stuck on the same page.
Qi Yan hadn’t messaged him at all today.
Yesterday, he had nagged him endlessly before leaving—texting every now and then, even sending a goodnight message before bed.
But today? Total silence.
So much for love. So much for attraction. Came fast, left even faster.
Tch. Fickle alpha.
Frustrated, Song Cun threw the script aside and flopped down on the couch.
His phone buzzed on the coffee table—he instantly sat up straight.
He unlocked the screen. It was the director, sending over a series of short videos.
Only then did Song Cun vaguely remember—the director had mentioned sending him “study videos” in the afternoon.
Since he couldn’t focus on the script anyway, he figured he might as well watch a few videos to kill time.
He tapped into the first one—and instantly felt his face flush.
The videos were all kiss scenes, shot from every possible angle, with the actors’ breathing clearly audible, and close-ups of their expressions.
His face turned red and his heart pounded.
It’s for learning. This is study!
Song Cun told himself as he forced himself to keep watching.
But as the scenes played on, he couldn’t help imagining himself and Qi Yan in those roles…
Knock, knock—The sound snapped him out of his fantasies—it was Chen Jie bringing food.
Song Cun quickly closed the video and got up to open the door.
“Cun-ge, why’s your face so red? Are you feeling sick?”
Chen Jie asked, standing at the doorway.
“The hotel heater’s turned up too high. I’m fine.”
Song Cun took the salad from Chen Jie’s hand.
Chen Jie nodded, not thinking much of it.
“Alright then, get some rest tonight.”
“Mm.”
Song Cun raised his hand to close the door.
Just then, a commotion echoed from the hallway. Several security guards were escorting an alpha into the elevator.
A hotel staff member hurried past Song Cun’s room. Chen Jie stopped him, “What happened?”
“That gentleman accidentally ate something he was allergic to and suddenly entered a frenzy state. We’re taking him to the hospital now.”
The staff member replied quickly and left.
Bang—Startled by the sound, Chen Jie turned back—only to see Song Cun nearly collapsing, struggling to stay upright, the salad he was holding falling to the floor.
“Cun-ge! What’s wrong?! Cun-ge—!”
