Chapter 19: Filming a Kiss Scene in Front of Him?
Song Cun froze for a few seconds before suddenly scrambling off of Qi Yan.
The scenes from last night replayed in his mind like a movie—him straddling Qi Yan, arms wrapped around his neck…
“You’re awake. Are you still feeling unwell?”
Qi Yan sat up.
The cooling patch on Song Cun’s forehead fell off. His eyes were dazed, his mind a tangled mess.
He had kissed Qi Yan…
And he had been the one to initiate it…
Qi Yan noticed him sitting there motionless, face flushed red, and reached out in concern to feel his forehead.
“Still running a fever?”
He turned to grab the thermometer on the nightstand, but just then, Song Cun spoke behind him:
“I remember everything. Last night.”
Qi Yan paused mid-reach and turned his head to look at Song Cun.
He instinctively wanted to apologize. Even though Song Cun had made the first move, he’d been groggy, while Qi Yan had been completely sober.
As if he knew what Qi Yan was about to say, Song Cun fidgeted with the bedsheet and muttered, “You don’t need to apologize. I’m not that shameless.”
Qi Yan stared at him steadily, a soft light flickering in his eyes.
Song Cun turned his gaze away, trying to keep his tone calm—though the tips of his ears were burning red.
“I told my agent to call you. I kissed you first. I know that.”
“The doctor told me that because my second heat came late, it’s unstable and makes me crave an alpha’s pheromones more intensely. I kissed you last night… only because of the pheromones. You get it, right?”
Qi Yan lowered his gaze, the light in his eyes slowly dimming.
“I understand.”
He understood exactly what Song Cun meant. The kiss was only because of the pheromones—nothing to do with feelings.
Knowing that Song Cun wasn’t angry with him was already more than he could ask for. He didn’t dare to hope for more.
Song Cun continued, “I admit… I don’t actually dislike your pheromones.” —in fact, I like them a lot.
“But I really hate the feeling of being controlled by pheromones.”
Maybe it was because Qi Yan hadn’t taken advantage of him during his first heat that Song Cun subconsciously trusted him. That was probably why, during his second heat, he instinctively reached out to Qi Yan for help.
Song Cun lowered his eyes.
“Either way… thank you for coming last night.”
Qi Yan smiled at him.
“Cun Cun, I’m your alpha. You don’t need to be so polite with me.”
When he said “I’m your alpha,” Song Cun’s fingers instinctively clenched the sheet.
The words brought back memories of the day they registered their marriage—on a rainy, foggy day, beside the fender-bent car. Qi Yan had held an umbrella over him and smiled,
“Cun Cun, I’m your alpha.”
Back then, hearing those words had stirred something strange inside him. He hadn’t understood what it was at the time.
Hearing them again today, for the second time, he finally seemed to grasp what that feeling was—fluttering emotion… and unease.
He wasn’t used to this kind of relationship, being included in someone else’s life plan. Just like how he’d never felt like his parents treated him as a son, or his brother treated him as a sibling.
Intimacy felt unfamiliar… and unsettling.
“I need to get ready for filming. Make yourself at home.”
Song Cun got out of bed.
“Can I visit the set?” Qi Yan asked cautiously, then quickly added, “No one will know about our relationship.”
It felt like he was some kind of shady lover. Song Cun almost laughed at the thought, but then remembered how Qi Yan had gone silent for an entire day yesterday. His tone involuntarily turned a bit sour:
“You’re probably busy, right? Disappeared the whole day yesterday—now you suddenly have time to visit the set?”
Qi Yan was caught off guard but quickly explained, “I slept the entire day yesterday. I had just woken up when I got your agent’s call.”
Slept again?
“So you came to me as soon as you woke up…”
Song Cun felt a bit guilty. Then he recalled how the last time Qi Yan had slept like that was barely a month ago, so he asked with concern, “Are you okay? Maybe you should rest in the hotel.”
Qi Yan smiled, “I’m fine now. I slept plenty yesterday. Moving around a bit today is good for me.”
“Suit yourself. But if you get kicked out, I’m not bailing you out.”
Song Cun muttered before slipping into the bathroom.
…
Song Cun showered quickly and rushed to the makeup room without even eating breakfast.
As the stylist was working on his hair, Chen Jie came in holding a bag of breakfast.
“Wow, Brother Jie, you treat your artist way too well. Breakfast from Klick Hotel? That place has lines down the street!”
The stylist looked astonished.
Chen Jie gave the stylist a polite smile, then lowered his voice to speak to Song Cun:
“President Qi told me to make sure you eat this. He didn’t want you going hungry.”
Song Cun gave a soft cough.
“Got it. Just leave it.”
He hadn’t planned to eat breakfast, but while reading the script, he ended up finishing it anyway.
…
On set, Song Cun rehearsed his lines and occasionally glanced around casually—yet never spotted Qi Yan.
“Didn’t he say he’d visit the set? Liar…”
The crew was still busy setting up the scene.
Song Cun sat in the rest area and caught sight of a tall figure standing in a corner. The person was dressed head to toe in black: black casualwear, black mask, and a low baseball cap. Completely disguised—yet still dazzlingly handsome, even in a crowd.
He instantly recognized Qi Yan.
Qi Yan was also looking at him. Despite the mask and hat, Song Cun could tell he was smiling at him.
Flustered, Song Cun quickly lowered his head and pretended to study his lines. Yet a subtle joy bloomed inside him.
He gave himself a reason for that joy—maybe it was because this was the first time anyone had ever come to visit him on set.
He had seen plenty of other actors’ family or friends come to visit, but he had never expected someone to come for him.
Only Lin Wan had once asked if she could stop by to support him, but he had bluntly refused—afraid of paparazzi turning it into some scandalous tabloid headline. He hated that stuff the most.
When the set was ready, the director called everyone into position.
Song Cun began rehearsing with his co-star Xu Yan. Out of the corner of his eye, he could still catch glimpses of Qi Yan in the corner.
Once the camera rolled, the scene went surprisingly smoothly. Xu Yan was in excellent form today, and their chemistry was great. The director even praised them both enthusiastically.
Without thinking, Song Cun turned to look for that familiar figure, like a child wanting praise for doing well.
Sure enough, Qi Yan was still there, watching him—and even gave him a thumbs-up.
“Childish.”
Song Cun rolled his eyes at him, but the corners of his lips lifted on their own.
“Cun-ge, you were amazing!”
A staff member brought over a bouquet to congratulate him on wrapping up his scenes.
“Wait—”
Just then, the director came over.
“Is something wrong?” Song Cun asked.
“No, no problem at all. I just wanted to reshoot yesterday’s kiss scene.”
The director grinned.
“You two are in such great shape today—let’s see if we can capture an even better version. Once the movie is released, it’s set in stone. We want to avoid regrets, right?”
It made sense.
But as Song Cun held the bouquet, the smile on his lips slowly stiffened…
Filming a kiss scene in front of Qi Yan?
It felt incredibly awkward—Especially since the two of them had just kissed last night.
Even if it was for work, and even if it was just angled camera work, Song Cun still felt a little guilty doing it in front of Qi Yan.
He turned slightly to glance discreetly in Qi Yan’s direction. Chen Jie was saying something to him.
Song Cun’s heart was pounding chaotically.
It felt like… he was about to get caught cheating on the spot.
