- Chapter 14 - Do We Count as a Couple After Having Relations?
Watching the surveillance footage, Qi Ning’an bit her knuckle, her face flushed and breathing heavily, with a slight upward curve at the corners of her lips.
Anyone could guess what Shen Yuanyi was thinking—she must have had some indecent, erotic dreams.
“It’s nothing. I’m heading to the set now. Bye, sis.”
Shen Yuanyi swallowed hard, turned off her phone, and lay on the bed, covering her teary eyes with her arm.
How could she have such a strange dream? The sensations felt so real, as if it had actually happened.
After calming down for a while, she got up to blow-dry her hair. By the time she arrived at the set, it was already noon—just in time for lunch.
The six assistants were huddled together, gossiping as usual. “I heard our production is still missing a key actor. The director is freaking out—who do you think she’ll bring in?”
“It can’t be that person… She’s filming a variety show right now.”
A ponytailed assistant clasped her hands together, eyes shining with hope. “If only my favorite could join!”
Her words sparked excitement among the others, each wishing their own idol would land the role.
Noticing Shen Yuanyi quietly eating her meal, the boldest assistant piped up, “Teacher Shen, was it Qi Ning’an who visited you last night? Are you two close?”
Caught off guard, Shen Yuanyi, her mouth still stuffed with rice, widened her eyes and swallowed without chewing properly.
Cough, cough. She didn’t deny Qi Ning’an’s visit, wiping her lips before replying, “We’re not that close.”
The assistant caught the implication—not that close but still acquainted—and her eyes instantly brightened.
“Teacher Shen, next time you see Qi Ning’an, could you get me an autograph?”
“Uh…” Shen Yuanyi scratched her cheek with a finger. “I can try, but it depends on whether she’s willing.”
The assistant had only been joking, but Shen Yuanyi’s response suggested she actually had the connections to ask Qi Ning’an for a favor. Even if it wasn’t guaranteed, that alone was impressive.
Curious, the others wondered how the usually carefree Shen Yuanyi had such wide connections—even knowing someone as prominent as Qi Ning’an.
“Teacher Shen, could you invite Qi Ning’an to join our production? The director still hasn’t cast that major role.”
Another assistant couldn’t take it anymore and tapped the speaker’s hand with her chopsticks. “You’re obsessed! Teacher Shen getting you an autograph isn’t enough?”
“Pfft.” The first assistant stuck out her tongue playfully. “If I could just see Qi Ning’an in person once, I’d die happy.”
“But there’s no way she’d come to our set. She’s probably busy with her girlfriend right now.”
Shen Yuanyi’s hand, just about to set down her chopsticks, paused. She dragged out her words, “Girlfriend?”
Hearing her reaction, the assistant perked up. “Teacher Shen, didn’t you know Qi Ning’an has a girlfriend? It broke yesterday, and today paparazzi and fans spotted her walking with her.”
A dreamy, fangirl smile spread across her face as she recalled the details. “Qi Ning’an shielded her girlfriend in her arms and domineeringly held her hand while leading her to the car.”
“Truly a top-tier omega—gorgeous, rich. Her girlfriend is so lucky.”
Shen Yuanyi didn’t seem too bothered, muttering under her breath, “Maybe they were just standing close.”
Her words were soft, almost as if she was trying to convince herself.
The noon break passed quickly, and the director brought a female actor into the crew. Shen Yuanyi recognized her—it wasn’t Qi Ning’an, but the female lead she had met once before at the hillside villa.
The assistant beside Shen Yuanyi excitedly whispered the name, “Yan Yue! It’s not Qi Ning’an—her girlfriend actually came to our set!”
What the hell? Qi Ning’an is the villain, and Yan Yue is the female lead. How could these two possibly be in a relationship?
Shen Yuanyi silently complained in her mind, but the assistant’s voice wasn’t exactly quiet, and many people overheard.
Yan Yue lowered her head, looking shy.
When Shen Yuanyi saw this, her eyes widened.
No way… the villain and the female lead actually have something going on?
Then… then last night…
Qi Ning’an had brought her soup in the middle of the night and even drove her home. Wouldn’t her jie get jealous if she found out?
Her body was still standing there, but her mind had already wandered off.
The director coughed twice, shooting a look to silence the assistant. “This is Yan Yue, Teacher Yan. She starred in several dramas years ago—she’s a veteran.”
The main cast and some supporting actors greeted her one by one. Only then did Yan Yue lift her head and smile, though her gaze instinctively avoided Shen Yuanyi.
Shen Yuanyi was baffled. She scratched the back of her head, feeling like the female lead didn’t seem to like her much.
The director tugged at her sleeve and whispered in her ear, “Xiao Yi, Teacher Yan is a senior. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask her. Her relationship with Qi Ning’an seems to be just like the rumors say. You have to get along with her peacefully—no more of your usual… hands-on behavior, got it?”
It was both a reminder and a warning.
If this were the original Shen Yuanyi, hearing this would’ve made her want to compete with Yan Yue to see who had the stronger backing, giving the director and her agent a headache.
But Shen Yuanyi just wanted to act well, become a superstar, and be seen.
She nodded to show she understood. The director patted her head. “Alright, do your best this afternoon.”
Her scenes didn’t have much interaction with Yan Yue, and during breaks, she didn’t go out of her way to strike up unnecessary conversations.
By dusk, the set suddenly erupted in commotion—Qi Ning’an had arrived for a high-profile visit, bringing over a hundred cups of milk tea, one for each person.
No one was more excited than her fan, that same assistant from earlier, who had said at noon that just seeing Qi Ning’an in person would make her life complete. And now, not only had she seen her, but she also got milk tea from Qi Ning’an’s visit.
Shen Yuanyi wasn’t sure how to act around Qi Ning’an in front of so many people—should she pretend they weren’t close, or act like they did in private? Unable to decide, she stayed out of the crowd.
Crouching in a corner, she sipped her milk tea, eyes fixed on her script.
Meanwhile, Qi Ning’an, surrounded by people, never took her eyes off her—though Shen Yuanyi had no idea.
Everyone assumed Qi Ning’an had come to the set for her girlfriend. Everyone took the online rumors as fact.
Even when Qi Ning’an pulled Yan Yue aside to talk, it was mistaken for a private lovers’ conversation.
In reality, Yan Yue was backed into a corner. “I didn’t say a single word to her.”
Qi Ning’an already knew, but she still warned, “You’d better control yourself.”
She was constantly worried this woman would expose everything, making Shen Yuanyi leave her again. If Zhou Huan hadn’t come to her demanding answers, she wouldn’t have let such a risk near Shen Yuanyi in the first place.
There was another night shoot scheduled. Shen Yuanyi had no objections and stayed behind to rehearse with her co-stars.
At eleven in the evening, Qi Ning’an waited outside the film set for Shen Yuanyi, preparing food and messaging her to come out.
The moment Shen Yuanyi saw Qi Ning’an, she walked over without hesitation, taking the soup container handed to her. Bewildered, she asked, “Sister, is this really for me?”
Wasn’t she supposed to deliver it to the female lead as a go-between?
Her cheek was pinched lightly. “Yes, absolutely for you.”
“Sister, you and Teacher Yan have no relationship, right?” Shen Yuanyi asked.
The little rabbit wore a puzzled expression, leaning in close, breath brushing against her face. “What kind of relationship?”
Those innocent eyes stared unblinkingly, filled with curiosity, as if genuinely confused about any connection between her and Yan Yue.
Shen Yuanyi leaned back and chuckled, thinking to herself: Wow, the big villain is seriously naive.
“The internet says you and Teacher Yan are a couple.”
“A couple… Does walking together make us a couple?” Qi Ning’an’s eyes brightened, as if she had finally found the answer to her confusion.
If she didn’t clarify now, she’d definitely be leading this clueless little rabbit astray.
“No, no! The internet just says that. Teacher Yan hasn’t confessed to you, right? And you haven’t confessed to her either. Without a confession, you’re not a couple.”
Confident in her reasoning, Shen Yuanyi felt quite proud of her wisdom. See? There’s no way the little rabbit villain would end up with the female lead.
Those unscrupulous media outlets only know how to spread rumors.
“Confession?” Qi Ning’an seemed utterly perplexed by the term.
Shen Yuanyi smiled, hugging the soup container as she sat on the same steps as last night, enjoying the night breeze. She couldn’t help but worry for Qi Ning’an. “Sister, you should post an official statement to clarify. Otherwise, the rumors will keep spreading, and some career-focused fans might get upset and leave.”
From the moment she joined the girl group, Shen Yuanyi had resolved to stay single—no romance, no marriage—to stay true to her fans.
Qi Ning’an was also wholly devoted to her career, aligning perfectly with her. Initially, Shen Yuanyi had worried that after transmigrating, she’d have to offer herself to the big villain in some patron-client relationship. But to her surprise, the villain only cared about work, showering the original host with resources.
“Mm, I’ll listen to Puppy,” Qi Ning’an replied, nodding as if half-understanding.
Shen Yuanyi laughed, guessing that the big villain was probably still pondering what exactly made a couple.
“Sister, hand me your phone. I’ll post it for you.”
Without hesitation or suspicion, Qi Ning’an gave her the phone. “Thank you, Puppy.”
Seeing how trusting she was, Shen Yuanyi grew even more concerned. “Sister, if anyone else asks for your phone like this in the future, you absolutely can’t just hand it over.”
“Why not?” Qi Ning’an asked.
“They might go through your photos, check your browsing history… cough Anyway, be careful.”
Shen Yuanyi’s finger nearly slipped and tapped the gallery icon out of reflex. Thankfully, she caught herself in time—otherwise, she’d have become the very person she was warning against.
Qi Ning’an’s eyes followed Shen Yuanyi’s finger unblinkingly, relaxing only when it moved away from the gallery.
A bead of sweat formed on her forehead, trickling down her neck like the thrill of a rollercoaster. If that finger had tapped even slightly, countless photos and videos of Puppy would have been exposed.
Her tongue flicked over her lips as she panted softly.
How she wanted to devour Puppy right now.
Shen Yuanyi was carefully editing the text, completely unaware of what Qi Ning’an beside her was thinking.
Suddenly, she felt a warm, moist kiss on her cheek. Startled, she looked up at Qi Ning’an, who had just kissed her. “You—”
“Now that we’ve been intimate… does that make us a couple?”
