- Chapter 16 - Mating Season 1
Shen Yuanyi burst into tears again—such a wonderful mentor was a blessing she must have cultivated over three lifetimes.
After being dropped off at home, Shen Yuanyi lay in bed as if suddenly remembering something—the plot, the villain’s dark transformation.
Her eyes snapped open in an instant, and she sat up in bed, startled.
She vaguely recalled a scene at a banquet where someone tried to throw themselves at the main villain, taking advantage of the situation to force a relationship. Coincidentally, it happened right before the villain’s rut cycle, when their pheromones were unstable and overflowing. That person ended up entangled with the villain for a full half-month.
She wasn’t sure if this was the same weekend banquet Qi Ning’an had mentioned, but to be safe, she’d better assume it was.
Counting on her fingers, she muttered, “Suppressants, pheromone patches, and maybe a bite guard too.”
“Okay,” she sighed in relief, finally able to sleep peacefully.
The next morning, she woke up early and headed to the set.
Qi Ning’an tore a page from the calendar hanging on the wall. Written in pink marker was a note: Less than five days until rut cycle—meaning it would hit this weekend.
She seemed to recall someone selling drugs to “Shen Yuanyi.” Who was it again?
Sitting on the bed in a plain nightgown, she looked like a quiet, dignified noblewoman at first glance, her long hair cascading over her shoulders.
But anyone hearing her phone conversation would have been shocked.
“Drugs to make an alpha lose control—preferably something that erases all memory during the process.”*)
“Mm, got it. Thanks.”
Hanging up, a flush spread across her cheeks. Tilting her elegant swan-like neck, she exhaled a heated breath.
Hurry up, weekend. Hurry up. I want to bond with my puppy.
The walls were covered in photos of Shen Yuanyi. Gazing at them, it almost felt like her little puppy was right beside her.
“Ah~” Qi Ning’an swooned forward, wrapping her arms around empty air, pretending she was embracing Shen Yuanyi.
Her tongue flicked over the corner of her lips as she knelt on the cold floor, bending over in laughter.
The more she anticipated that day, the slower time seemed to pass. But finally, the day arrived. Qi Ning’an waited outside the set early for Shen Yuanyi to emerge.
“Jiejie!” Shen Yuanyi spotted the Porsche parked at the entrance and waved, skipping over cheerfully.
Sliding into the car, she beamed at Qi Ning’an. “Did you wait long?”
“…Just a little.”
Shen Yuanyi pouted guiltily. “Next time, Jiejie can come later. Let me wait for you instead.”
Her nose was pinched lightly as Qi Ning’an shot her a mock-scolding look.
“You must be warm. Have some water.” Qi Ning’an pulled a bottle of mineral water from the car’s mini-fridge and handed it to her.
Shen Yuanyi accepted it with both hands, smiling. “Thank you, Jiejie.”
It was just plain water, but Shen Yuanyi unscrewed the cap and took a big, obliging gulp.
Qi Ning’an smirked, her throat bobbing as she swallowed hard.
Gently stroking Shen Yuanyi’s head, she murmured, “Let’s go.”
Wiping her lips, Shen Yuanyi tightened the cap and nodded with an enthusiastic “Mhm, mhm!”
The evening streets were bustling. They arrived at a high-end restaurant downtown, where rows of luxury cars queued to enter the parking lot. Even before the banquet began, groups had already gathered in the underground garage, chatting.
The moment Qi Ning’an stepped out of the car, she drew countless gazes. Veteran artists, aspiring collaborators, directors—all approached her.
They acted warmly, as if they were old friends, elders, or close acquaintances…
But Qi Ning’an couldn’t remember any of their names—at most, she might recall their surnames. They all looked somewhat familiar.
“Long time no see, long time no see…”
They enthusiastically reached out to shake Qi Ning’an’s hand.
“And this is…?” Seeing the unfamiliar Shen Yuanyi, they curiously asked for her name. After all, anyone standing beside the award-winning actress must be someone noteworthy.
“A newcomer at the studio, Shen Yuanyi.”
A newcomer brought along like this was clearly no ordinary person. These were all seasoned foxes—one glance and they knew exactly what to do.
Business cards were handed out, contact information exchanged. These were all top-tier figures in the industry. If Shen Yuanyi was willing, getting cast in movies, TV dramas, or variety shows would be effortless.
Shen Yuanyi was overwhelmed.
“Alright, the banquet is about to begin.” With just one word from Qi Ning’an, the crowd around her immediately chimed in with agreement.
They took the elevator up to the rooftop banquet hall. Qi Ning’an wouldn’t have brought Shen Yuanyi along for just any director, but Zhou Huan was different—young yet highly accomplished. That was why she had brought her.
Leading the young alpha down a quiet, long corridor, Qi Ning’an scanned the room numbers on the walls—31-11. As they approached, faint panting sounds could be heard.
“Wait here for a moment.” Qi Ning’an turned back, smiling at Shen Yuanyi.
Though she didn’t understand why, Shen Yuanyi trusted Qi Ning’an completely and nodded with a soft “Mm.”
Qi Ning’an turned away, her smile vanishing as she barged into Room 31-11. The two on the couch startled, eyes widening.
Yan Yue slid off the woman’s lap, adjusting the strap that had slipped from her shoulder. Four or five vivid red marks dotted her neck, her face flushed, toes curling in embarrassment as she stood to the side.
The woman on the couch wasn’t much better—clothes disheveled, a red lipstick stain smudged on the white collar of her shirt.
“You came so soon.” Her voice was deep and pleasant, her wolf-cut hair styled with silver piercings on her lips and ears.
Qi Ning’an smiled faintly. “Of course, I had to see the host of the banquet first.”
Zhou Huan glanced at her, straightening her clothes as she stood. “I’ll go prepare tea. But remember—if she doesn’t fit the role of the female lead in my film, I won’t agree, even if she’s your protege.”
Qi Ning’an remained calm, still smiling.
Zhou Huan’s next film was tailor-made for Yan Yue. She had the power to make a canary soar—or lock it in a cage.
Career mattered to the pup. Whatever she intended for her canary, it would only benefit the pup in the end.
Qi Ning’an stepped out, spotting the obedient little pup waiting dutifully in the hallway. The warmth in her eyes deepened. Just get through the formalities quickly, and then… then… she could enjoy her heat with the pup.
“Come with me,” Qi Ning’an prompted.
Shen Yuanyi responded with two quick “Mm-hm”s and followed.
Was she about to meet the female lead from the novel? The obsessive, yandere type—later portrayed as the ultimate villain, full of twisted schemes.
A mere side character like her sticking around such pivotal figures seemed like tempting fate.
Sticking close to the big villain, she even deliberately inched nearer, almost pressing against her.
Qi Ning’an said nothing, simply patting her head—as if to say, Don’t be afraid. Don’t be nervous.
Roll with the villain, and you’ll feast three times a day.
Shen Yuanyi returned a small smile, her muscles gradually relaxing.
Entering the lounge and settling onto the sofa, she sipped the tea Zhou Huan handed her. The man appeared rather fastidious, yet mentioned an opportunity—offering her the female lead in his next film.
Shen Yuanyi knew this favor largely stemmed from Qi Ning’an’s influence. How could a washed-up actress with a tarnished reputation land such a role otherwise? Qi Ning’an must have said something when she entered earlier.
Not a single crack showed in her composure. Her impeccable poker face made it impossible to guess her thoughts during crucial moments.
After shaking hands and standing up, next year’s schedule was essentially confirmed.
Exiting the lounge, Shen Yuanyi exhaled deeply before walking further away and turning to Qi Ning’an. “Sister, how was my presence just now?”
“Mmm, quite impressive. You smiled when appropriate and stayed professional during negotiations. You’ve grown.”
The answer surprised Shen Yuanyi. Clenching her small fists, she gazed at Qi Ning’an with sparkling eyes—as if asking, Really? Am I actually that amazing?
Qi Ning’an patted her head reassuringly. “It’s true.”
Like an exuberant puppy, Shen Yuanyi bounded ahead, skipping cheerfully before suddenly spinning around. Hands clasped behind her back, she bowed slightly with a radiant smile. “Thank you, Sister.”
Their eyes met as they shared a laugh, then walked down the corridor together.
Qi Ning’an suggested she mingle to expand her connections, and the obedient Shen Yuanyi complied.
Wandering with a wineglass, she chatted with acquaintances from the parking garage, downing enough red wine to feel lightheaded. The knowledge of Qi Ning’an’s backing made her bold—perhaps too bold with alcohol.
When she finally staggered toward the wall where Qi Ning’an stood swirling her glass, she collapsed into her embrace, promptly caught.
A soft murmur brushed her ear. “Drunk, aren’t you? Let’s get you to the lounge.”
Shen Yuanyi mumbled incoherently in response.
Supported into the lounge, she barely managed replies as Qi Ning’an called her name. Her eyelids weighed tons; her body burned.
“Shen Yuanyi.”
No answer came—she’d fallen into deep slumber.
“Puppy~” Qi Ning’an hooked a finger under Shen Yuanyi’s chin, leaning down to brush her lips against the tender mouth.
A fleeting touch—cool, velvety. Straightening, Qi Ning’an traced her own lips, savoring the memory with closed eyes.
Flushed cheeks. Trembling shoulders. A faint lift at the corners of her brows.
“Ah~” Every cell sang with delight. When her eyes reopened, they gleamed with greed and hunger.
She straddled Shen Yuanyi’s thighs, arms looping around her neck, and pressed their foreheads together with ragged breaths.
Gazing at the sleeping girl—who puckered her lips adorably—Qi Ning’an dragged a fingertip from her brow to those plump, candy-red lips, kneading them like chewy strawberry gummies.
Unable to resist, she stole another kiss. The sweetness made her bite down gently, as if truly tasting gummy candy.
Puppy, puppy, puppy… How long had she waited for this moment?
“Will you spend my heat cycle with me?”
Not receiving an answer didn’t anger Qi Ning’an in the slightest as he passionately kissed the puppy sitting on the sofa.
The tea-scented pheromones slowly overflowed, permeating the entire lounge and enveloping them both.
