- Chapter 34 - Feeding the Puppy
Returning home, Shen Yuanyi was still recalling the skipped heartbeat she felt when calling Qi Ning’an “Mom.” Patting her cheeks and taking a deep breath, she opened the door, only to be startled by Shen Muhan standing in the entryway.
The lights were off, leaving the interior pitch black, with only the hallway light streaming in.
“Big… sis,” Shen Yuanyi called out uncertainly.
Shen Muhan smiled slightly. “You’re back.”
After a brief pause, Shen Yuanyi responded with an “Mm,” switching on the wall light before taking off her shoes and slipping into slippers.
She didn’t notice the intense gaze Shen Muhan fixed upon her from the entryway.
Casually arranging her shoes neatly, she entered further, asking naturally, “Sis, would you like some juice?”
Shen Muhan’s eyes reddened, her teeth clenched, and her fists trembled. “You’re mine, mine, mine, mine…”
Glancing back at the oblivious Shen Yuanyi, who had gone to the kitchen to pour two glasses of juice, placing one on the coffee table with, “I poured you some. Drink it if you want—there’s more in the fridge if it’s not enough.”
Tilting her head back, she gulped down the overly sweet juice in one go before heading to the bathroom and shutting the door, the sound of running water soon following.
Shen Muhan dug her nails into her palms, teeth chattering as she slowly approached the coffee table. Picking up the full glass, she carried it to the kitchen and poured it down the sink. Then, methodically opening every bottled drink from the fridge, she emptied them all into the drain.
Shen Yuanyi mustn’t drink these sugary things.
When Shen Yuanyi emerged from the shower craving another glass of juice and opened the fridge, all her prepared drinks were gone.
Scratching her head, she felt a pang of disappointment—it wasn’t a big deal, just frustrating when a craving went unfulfilled. Assuming her sister had finished them all because they tasted good, she closed the fridge door dejectedly and retreated to her room.
The next morning, the noise of a vacuum cleaner disrupted the peace. Having stayed up late watching a movie, Shen Yuanyi—who used to sleep undisturbed until waking naturally—now tossed and turned with a pillow pressed over her ears.
Finally giving up on sleep, she opened her bedroom door to find Shen Muhan in an apron, cleaning diligently. Some of her clothes were already in the washing machine, and breakfast was prepared.
“You’re awake. Come eat,” Shen Muhan said cheerfully.
Any irritation lodged in Shen Yuanyi’s throat dissolved—how could she complain when her sister was being so kind?
With messy, bedhead hair, she shuffled over and sat down with a quiet “Thanks.”
Her heart warmed at her sister’s thoughtfulness—until she picked up her chopsticks and saw the food on the table. Her expression immediately soured.
“This…” She hesitated, chopsticks hovering, until the voice behind her urged, “Eat up.”
Setting down her utensils, Shen Yuanyi turned. “I don’t like this.”
Shen Muhan smiled, pinching her cheek. “It’s healthy. Be good and eat it.”
Noticing the band-aid on her sister’s finger, Shen Yuanyi’s heart twinged—she couldn’t reject this effort made so early in the morning. Forcing a smile, she picked up the chopsticks again, sighing as she ate the chicken br3ast in one bite, chasing it with lettuce leaves like a diet meal.
Heading to the fridge for something to balance the taste, she opened it to find it packed with fresh leafy greens and multiple containers of chicken br3ast.
Shen Yuanyi’s pupils dilated in shock as she closed the refrigerator door, unable to believe what she’d seen. If she stayed with her sister, she’d probably be subjected to vegetable salads and chicken br3ast for every meal—nothing but diet food.
She couldn’t stand another day in this house!
“Yuanyi, I’m heading out. Be good and stay home,” Shen Muhan said, removing her apron.
Yuanyi nodded in response.
Where else would she go if not stay home?
Shoulders slumped, she returned to her room and went back to sleep.
When she woke up and tried to go out for a walk, she found the door locked. Searching the couch for the keys, she noticed how neatly arranged everything was—her sister must have taken them.
Defeated, she went back to her room and put on a movie to pass the time.
Her sister didn’t return until evening, looking pleased to see her still at home, her expression bright with satisfaction.
Since it was already late, Yuanyi didn’t feel like braving the cold outside and forgot to ask for the keys back.
“Sis, where did you go?” Yuanyi asked casually, just making conversation.
Shen Muhan didn’t answer, only smiling at her, clearly in a good mood. She pinched Yuanyi’s cheek playfully before heading straight to the kitchen.
Dinner was, once again, chicken br3ast and vegetable salad. Yuanyi’s face turned grim, but she forced herself to finish it.
Back in her room, she lay in bed, fantasizing about Qi Ning’an’s cooking. “Come faster, weekend…”
She drifted off into a hazy sleep.
The next day, she was woken up again, forced to eat the same awful chicken br3ast—because it was made by her sister, she had no choice but to choke it down.
After resting to digest, she got up, wanting to go out for a stroll. But when she tried the door, it was still locked. It dawned on her that her sister probably still had the keys.
“Sis, do you still have my keys?”
Shen Muhan sat on the couch, filing her nails, eyes fixed on her task as she admitted without hesitation, “Mhm.”
Yuanyi rushed over. “Sis, give them back to me.” She grinned like an eager puppy, tongue slightly out, palm open as if wagging an invisible tail.
“Shouldn’t you tidy up your room first? Take off the bedsheets and wash them,” Muhan suggested, glancing up with a smile, making no move to hand over the keys.
Yuanyi scratched her cheek. “I just washed them.”
“How long ago?”
Yuanyi couldn’t remember—probably a month. Her ears turned red with embarrassment as she hurried back to strip the sheets and toss them into the washing machine.
The corner of Muhan’s lips curled slightly. Her little sister was hers. The thrill of control was intoxicating, sending shivers down her spine. No wonder they had enjoyed controlling her so much.
Meanwhile, in the adjacent building, Qi Ning’an watched everything through her binoculars, teeth grinding in fury.
This woman was treating Yuanyi like a pet—forcing her to eat terrible food, keeping her locked inside.
Damn it, damn it, damn it…
She had to rescue her. She couldn’t let that woman keep controlling her any longer.
Shen Muhan left at 2 PM for grocery shopping. Once Ning’an saw her disappear down the street, she went to Yuanyi’s apartment, unlocked the door with a spare key, then hid in the stairwell, waiting for Yuanyi to come out on her own.
Yuanyi finished washing the sheets, hung them up to dry, and noticed her sister had gone out again. Scratching her head, she tried the door—and to her surprise, it opened.
She figured her sister must have forgotten to leave the keys behind before leaving.
Deciding to take a quick walk downstairs, she planned to return when her sister came back.
She went out boldly and closed the door behind her.
Seeing Shen Yuanyi successfully exit, Qi Ning’an in the safety corridor let out a sigh of relief and sent her a message on her phone: “Shen Yuanyi, I made some delicious dishes today. Come over to my place.”
Just as she stepped out, Shen Yuanyi received Qi Ning’an’s message. After glancing at it, her cravings were instantly stirred—after two days of suffering through bland chicken br3ast, she agreed without hesitation, “Sure! Wait for me, sis. I’ll be right there.”
Qi Ning’an put away her phone and waited for Shen Yuanyi to take the elevator downstairs. After a while, she followed, wearing a mask and a baseball cap, moving hurriedly as she called her butler to prepare fresh ingredients at home.
She returned to the villa just before Shen Yuanyi arrived and began cooking.
The butler didn’t understand why his mistress insisted on cooking herself when the servants could easily handle it.
Qi Ning’an covered the clay pot, wiped her hands with a clean towel, and turned to say, “You can all head home early. With the New Year approaching, you should prepare for the holidays.”
“But Miss, that wouldn’t be appropriate…”
“Go ahead. I’ll contact you if anything comes up.”
The butler was deeply moved—he had never encountered such a considerate employer before. Fighting back tears, he bowed and said, “Understood,” before withdrawing.
Now alone in the villa, Qi Ning’an listened to the bubbling of the seafood porridge in the kitchen, its rich aroma filling the air. Unhurried, she picked fresh flowers from the backyard, arranging them in a glass vase to adorn the dining table.
Soon, the doorbell rang with a soft ding-dong.
Opening the door, she found Shen Yuanyi standing there with cookies, smiling as she called out, “Sis!”
“You’re here.” Qi Ning’an gestured for her to sit at the table before returning to the kitchen.
Outside, light snow fell, and the sky at four in the afternoon was overcast, thick clouds obscuring the sun.
The moment she stepped inside, Shen Yuanyi caught the enticing scent of seafood, and her stomach growled. “Sis, what are you making? It smells amazing!”
Qi Ning’an ladled the seafood porridge from the pot into a bowl and replied, “Seafood porridge.”
“I want it so bad! I’ve been eating nothing but chicken br3ast for two days—I swear I’m turning into chicken br3ast myself,” Shen Yuanyi complained.
Qi Ning’an clenched her fingers at the words, a flash of anger crossing her eyes. That woman knows full well she hates chicken br3ast, yet she keeps forcing it on her.
Taking a deep breath to steady herself, she carried the bowl of porridge out and said, “Then why don’t you stay with me? I’ll cook delicious meals for you every day.”
“Really?” Shen Yuanyi looked up at her, eyes bright, cookie crumbs still dusting the corner of her lips—utterly adorable.
Qi Ning’an wiped the crumbs away with her thumb, then leaned down slightly, meeting her gaze seriously. “Really.”
“Then I should let my sister know.” Shen Yuanyi swung her legs under the table and reached for her phone, but Qi Ning’an took it from her.
“Eat first. It won’t taste as good when it’s cold. Besides, it’s still early—no rush.”
Shen Yuanyi’s phone was left on the table, held down by Qi Ning’an’s hand.
She didn’t think much of it, nodding in agreement. “Okay~”
Qi Ning’an pinched her cheek lightly and smiled. “Remember what you promised me?”
“That thing about the weekend?” Shen Yuanyi mumbled through squished cheeks, her round eyes blinking. Her face was small, making her look even more endearing.
“Mm.”
Shen Yuanyi fell silent for a moment before speaking with difficulty, “Mom… Mommy.”
Qi Ning’an beamed and released her cheeks, “Yes, I’m here.”
Hearing this response, Shen Yuanyi flushed crimson from her neck to her face, desperately wanting to run outside and scream somewhere private—this was so embarrassing.
She lowered her head, hands gripping her trousers tightly on her thighs.
Qi Ning’an’s porcelain-like skin also showed a faint blush as she gently pulled a napkin from her pocket. Though called a napkin, it more closely resembled an oversized bib in yellow and white, printed with an adorable little yellow duck.
Moving behind Shen Yuanyi, she tied it around her neck.
With one finger, she lifted the puppy-like chin, watching Shen Yuanyi’s lips tremble and her face turn bl00d-red—quite satisfied with her handiwork.
Qi Ning’an whispered against Shen Yuanyi’s ear, “So adorable. Mommy will feed you now.”
