When I Cleared the Death Game World, I Reincarnated as a Villainous Noble Even if They Talk About Doom Flags, I'm Actually Immortal. - Chapter 26
Led by Ren, Lior walked through the residential district.
The sun had already set, and the sky was dim.
For some reason, he felt like a lost child.
“Um… Are you sure it’s okay for me to intrude?”
“Of course! Don’t worry about it. I couldn’t possibly let someone as cute as you sleep outside, Lior-kun. Look, that’s my house.”
Lior followed the direction Ren pointed.
A rather impressive house stood before him. A solidly built two-story structure—proof of an A-rank adventurer’s wealth.
Warm light spilled out from the first floor.
As they got closer, a delicious aroma gently drifted through the air.
“I’m home!”
“O-Oh… Excuse me for intruding…”
Following the energetic Ren, Lior hesitantly stepped inside.
The entrance immediately opened into a spacious living room. In the center stood a large table, spread with bread and salad.
In one corner, the kitchen area was visible. A hearth, resembling a stove, sat beneath a dome-shaped hood, likely designed to catch smoke and channel it into the chimney.
Standing in front of the kitchen was a girl around Lior’s age.
“Welcome home, sis—wait, who’s that?”
The girl had turned toward them with a smile, but upon seeing Lior, her expression shifted into a frown.
Since she had called Ren “sis,” she was clearly Ren’s younger sister.
“Sorry~ I kinda picked him up.”
“Picked him up…!? No way! We can’t take care of him, so take him back to wherever he came from!”
“Nooo! I wanna keep him!!”
“I said no, and I mean it!!”
It was like watching a child begging their mother to keep a stray puppy.
“Lior-kun’s had it rough, you know? He was betrayed by the adventurers he helped, and even got his wallet stolen…”
“Why doesn’t he just go home?”
The younger sister’s sharp gaze landed on Lior.
A reasonable question.
The problem was, he didn’t even have enough money for a carriage ride home.
“Um… due to certain circumstances, I can’t go home right now…”
“See? That’s why we should at least let him stay the night. Please? Just for tonight!!”
“P-Please.”
Lior bowed his head deeply.
The girl flinched slightly, letting out a small, hesitant sound.
“…F-Fine. Just for tonight! But you have to leave in the morning!”
“Thank you.”
“Thanks, Luna! You really are the cutest little sister ever! The most generous in the world!”
“You sure know how to flatter people… Now hurry up and take off your armor. Dinner’s ready.”
“Okay~”
Ren quickly unfastened her armor and set it aside before plopping down at the table.
She looked just like a schoolkid coming home, dropping off her backpack, and waiting for a snack.
Lior glanced at the table, about to take a seat, when he noticed Ren patting the chair next to her.
Obediently, he sat there.
“That’s my little sister, Luna. Isn’t she cute?”
“O-Oh… yes.”
Luna was like a smaller version of Ren. It was clear they were sisters just from looking at them.
However, Luna seemed more mature than Ren.
Her long pink hair flowed down, and her sharp eyes gave her a composed demeanor.
If Ren was like a dog, then Luna was more like a cat.
(…Wait. Have I seen her somewhere before?)
As he looked at Luna, a sense of familiarity arose.
Had they met before?
Lior tilted his head in confusion.
No, this was his first time in this town. He had no connection to Luna.
It had to be their first meeting.
“Huh? Lior-kun, why are you staring at Luna? Don’t tell me… love at first sight?”
“N-No! That’s not it…”
“Big sis, stop teasing him. Here, your soup and bread.”
Luna placed a piece of bread and a bowl of soup in front of Lior. She did the same for Ren, setting down a bowl in front of her as well.
Her movements were careful and precise, but her tone carried a hint of irritation.
“I only prepared food for two, so there’s not much to go around. It’s not like I was expecting an unexpected guest.”
“Ah… Sorry about that.”
“O-Oh, I’m fine skipping a meal, so I don’t need to eat…”
“Don’t be weirdly considerate. I can’t just ignore a guest while eating in front of them. Just eat—and feel awkward about it.”
“Y-Yes…”
He had only meant to be polite, but it ended up earning him a scolding.
She had a point—eating while ignoring a guest would have been awkward.
His attempt at being considerate had completely backfired.
Accepting his fate, Lior took a sip of the soup, fully aware of the uncomfortable atmosphere.
“…It’s delicious.”
Luna’s soup had a light, refreshing flavor.
The sweetness of the vegetables was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of salt. It reminded him of consommé soup.
Having been used to rich, heavy meals at the mansion, this simple dish felt even more satisfying.
“Luna-chan, isn’t it nice to hear that he likes it?”
“…Not really.”
Luna turned her head away with a huff.
However, the corners of her mouth twitched as if she were trying to suppress a smile.
“Yep, that reaction gets high marks! Genuine, unfiltered compliments are the best kind, you know? Lior-kun, well done.”
“Uh… thanks?”
“Enough already! Just eat, sis!”
“Okay, okay.”
Luna grumbled in frustration before finally sitting down at the table herself.
She let out a small huff as she averted her gaze from Lior, quietly eating her meal.
Was she still wary of him?
Lior wondered if she still hadn’t fully accepted him and decided not to provoke her any further. He silently focused on his food.
“By the way, Lior-kun, you don’t mind sharing a bed with me, right?”
“What?! Sis, what are you saying?!”
“Well, we only have two beds, so it can’t be helped, right?”
“That doesn’t mean you can just sleep next to a boy!!”
“I don’t mind if it’s Lior-kun, though?”
“Well I won’t allow it, so no!”
Thus began the sudden battle over sleeping arrangements.
Apparently, the Fairy household only had two beds.
Wanting to put an end to the argument, Lior hesitantly raised his hand.
“Um… I can sleep on the floor, so please don’t worry about it. I’m just grateful to have a roof over my head.”
In Drag Machina, sleeping outdoors had been a daily routine.
A bed was an occasional luxury.
Sleeping on the floor? No problem. He’d wake up refreshed in the morning.
“There’s no way I’m letting you sleep on the floor. Or… do you not want to share a bed with me, Lior-kun?”
Ren gazed up at him with big, watery eyes.
It was impossible to say no to that look.
Somehow, it made him feel like he was the one being unreasonable.
“I-I don’t mind…”
“Don’t just let her manipulate you! Sis and I can share a bed, and Lior-san can take the spare one.”
“Oh, right.”
“Oops, she caught on…”
“Honestly, Sis!!”
The lively dinner continued from there.
That night, the simple meal tasted even better than the extravagant feasts at the mansion.
