When I Took Back My Beloved Child Who Had Been Taken From Me, My Husband's Obsessive Love Began. Why? - Episode 28
“It’s not surprising that you find it hard to believe. When I left my hometown, I changed my name and have lived as a man ever since.”
Craig, coming to his senses at those words, stared intently at Aman, even though he thought it was rude.
I know that not only your beautiful features but also your androgynous aura made the women of the imperial court excited.
Even though the body shape was hidden by thick clothing, it was evident that they were slender.
Indeed, if one is told that it is a woman, it does look like one, but Craig felt confused by his own stubbornness in doubting it simply because it was Lucienne’s primary doctor.
“Even now, Lucienne is still suffering from the loss of her magical power. Can you save her?”
“I will save you.”
“Why did your father take you instead of your elder brother to become the personal physician of the late empress?”
“…because I was stronger than my brother.”
“Such a thing…”
Usually, children born to the same parents are said to have stronger magical power if they are male rather than female.
At least, it was said that men were overwhelmingly superior in handling magic, and this was also true for medical magic—healing magic as well.
Did Aman read Craig’s thoughts? He continues with a wry smile.
“The gender difference in magical power is merely a common belief. Father seemed to be convinced of this after witnessing the difference in power between my brother and me. Many women are forbidden from using magic once they reach adulthood, you see.”
“If that’s true, your father often allowed you to use magic, didn’t he?”
“Thanks to my father, I didn’t suffer from ‘magic power intoxication.’ However, during that treatment, it seems my father noticed the strength of my magic power. And then, he taught me healing magic. He said that the more people who can use healing magic, the better.”
“I see… But that doesn’t seem to be a reason for you not to get married, does it? I can’t imagine your father or brother wanting that.”
Although Craig was convinced by Aman’s explanation, he was surprised by the Lecter family’s views that went against public sentiment.
In fact, I thought that if Lucienne learned and used magic, she would be able to demonstrate power equivalent to or even greater than that of the nearby magic knights.
Even so, Craig regretted that someone as powerful as Aman did not have children, and he spoke his thoughts without any ill intent.
Suddenly, Aman’s face twists as if to hide a sneer.
“Don’t you know why women don’t use magic after they become adults?”
“I know that…”
It is said that a vast amount of magical power is lost during childbirth.
In reality, such a significant loss doesn’t usually occur, but there are rare cases where giving birth to a child with strong magical power can be dangerous.
Just like Lucienne, there are cases where the magical power becomes unstable during pregnancy, and they cannot safely reach childbirth.
Craig was deeply ashamed of his slip of the tongue.
The reason Lucienne and Leoldo are alive and here now is solely because Aman trained as a doctor while disguised as a man and stayed by Lucienne’s side.
The reason Aman is disguising their gender is probably because society has a tendency to disapprove of women taking jobs that involve using magic.
“I made you say something difficult, sorry about that.”
“No, there’s no need to apologize. It’s not that I wanted to hide anything. It’s just that I wanted to avoid Lucienne being spoken ill of because I am a woman.”
It was expected that Aman had been concealing the fact that she was a woman.
Moreover, it was also for Lucienne.
So Craig changed his words.
“Thank you, Aman.”
“No need for thanks. I have simply followed the path I chose and was able to assist Lady Lucienne and His Highness. That alone is my great joy, and it is the result of my father and brother supporting my wishes.”
In response to Craig’s words of thanks, Aman answered with genuine happiness.
When I see that smile, all the things I’ve been overthinking suddenly seem ridiculous.
Furthermore, I realized that I had been foolishly clinging to jealousy and petty pride.
“When Lucienne has recovered, I want to have a proper talk. For now, if I’m here, you won’t be able to rest properly. For Lucienne and Leoldo’s sake, I want you to rest well and recover too.”
Thank you very much.
“There’s no need for thanks. If there’s anything I can help with regarding Leoldo, just call me anytime. I don’t plan on leaving the palace for the time being.”
“Understood.”
Craig stood up and headed towards the space between Lucienne’s and Leoldo’s beds.
And then, gently stroking Leoldo’s forehead, I confirm that he has no fever and that his magical power is stable.
Then, turning back to Lucienne, they reached out their hand, but in the end, they didn’t touch her and lowered their hand.
“Well then, please take care of the two of them.”
When I conveyed that, Craig stopped Aman, who was about to walk out of the room to see him off, and left the bedroom.
Seeing off that figure, Aman also approaches Lucienne and Leoldo.
Leoldo is just peacefully sleeping, but Lucienne’s breathing is still rough.
When Lucienne next awoke, I couldn’t help but wish that she would be able to spend her time in peace.
