When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 11
Episode 11
Just a few hours’ horseback ride away from Graysian, Jez and the others suddenly encountered a monster army of about 500. It seems they had been lurking along the highway using concealment magic.
Although Fatima sensed the enemy’s presence and magic just before, avoiding a surprise attack, Jamil immediately decided that they couldn’t leave such a large number of monsters unattended along this major highway. He ordered to eliminate the enemy before continuing towards Graysian.
The enemy consisted of a typical infantry unit centered around an Orc General. Ten Orc Warriors stood to protect the Orc General. Additionally, there were around 500 Goblin troops, including Goblin Scouts, Goblin Warriors, Goblin Archers, and Goblin Magicians.
While the Goblin troops were relatively diverse in numbers and types, they weren’t a match for the Al-Faz unit. The real issue lay with the Orc General and its protectors, the Orc Warriors.
The strength of the Al-Faz unit lies in its mobility and breakthrough power, not in siege warfare. Their main weapons being bows and magic, they are very effective against monsters that rely on numbers like Goblins or speedy monsters like Wolves, which were not present this time.
However, they struggle against large, heavy monsters like Orcs or Trolls, which require heavier hits. Nevertheless, Jamil, including others from the Al-Faz unit, was puzzled by Jez’s statement of “I’ll take care of it.” Although they knew Jez was capable, they didn’t expect him to be so straightforward in such a situation.
“Jez, I understand that you can fight more than adequately. But the Orc General is quite formidable, you know?”
Though usually laid-back, Jez didn’t seem like the type to make such a silly joke in this situation. Jamil was somewhat perplexed as he addressed Jez, but Jez casually replied, “Oh, I understand. But I’ve taken down Orc Generals solo many times before, so it’s not a problem.”
Hearing this, Jamil and Fatima exchanged subtle expressions, but they decided not to dwell on it and said, “Alright, we’ll leave it to you for now. Just don’t do anything reckless,” in a tone that showed they weren’t entirely convinced. They knew from the battle with the princess back at the base that Jez had more than enough ability. Besides, even if the worst came to pass, they could provide support, ensuring Jez wouldn’t die.
“Got it. Then, Jamil and the others, chip away at the Goblins as you see fit. I’ll charge in when the time is right.”
—
With Jamil leading, the Al-Faz unit of 100 knights charged at the monster army of 500 along the highway. As they attempted to enter the attack range of the Goblin Archers and Goblin Magicians, Jamil commanded, “Spread out!” Immediately, the Al-Faz unit split into two groups of 50, each rushing towards the flanks of the monster army while initiating attacks with their bows.
Expecting a frontal assault, the monsters were caught off guard, and their formation began to break down as they redirected their attacks. While maintaining a certain distance from the enemy, the Al-Faz unit continued their arrow attacks. Watching from a slight distance, Jez casually remarked, “As expected of the Al-Faz unit. They’re amazing.”
As the Al-Faz unit’s assault caused the enemy formation to collapse and the enemy ranks spread out to the sides, creating a gap in the front, Jez seized the opportunity and exclaimed, “Let’s go!” He whipped his horse and charged straight into the enemy ranks. In no time, he reached near the enemy formation, then dismounted his horse just before it, letting it run in a random direction, and dashed into the heart of the enemy ranks.
A few goblins noticed and tried to obstruct him, but he dodged them without a second glance and continued forward. Approaching the Orc General, just before reaching it, he was confronted by ten Orc Warriors standing guard. Watching from afar, Jamil exclaimed, “What’s that idiot doing!!!” Never did he expect Jez to charge head-on so recklessly, and he hurried to provide support, but then, “Huh?”
In the center of the enemy formation, the ten Orc Warriors who stood before Jez were instantly blown apart, showering blood like a fountain, causing a momentary halt in thought for everyone present. Not only Jamil and the members of the Al-Faz unit, but also the enemy monsters, and of course, the Orc General, were momentarily distracted, leaving their minds blank.
Then, with a snap, the Orc General snapped back to awareness of the enemy. Before him stood Jez, wearing his usual cheerful expression despite being drenched in a mass of splattered blood.
“It’s forbidden to be distracted during combat,” Jez said, as he slipped right up close to the massive Orc General, imbuing even more magic into his hands and feet, moving with a fluid motion, he forcefully and swiftly stepped forward. The ground cracked and crumbled under the force as Jez unleashed his fist.
