When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 2
Episode 2
Kohane, one of the southern urban clusters. It flourishes as a vital transportation hub in the surrounding area, being the closest to the center among all the southern urban clusters.
Although it’s a bit distant from the frontline city of the demon territory, due to its excellent access to various places and the concentration of people and resources, governmental organizations and military forces have established their base here.
Three legions have been dispatched to the southern front. The Kingdom Army’s 7th Legion serves as a base in Kohane, playing a role in guerrilla warfare. The 8th and 9th Legions guard the frontline bases in the south respectively.
Jez, who had been instructed by his superior at the Ministry of Internal Affairs to coordinate the reinforcements to the south, naturally planned to use Kohane as a base to prepare for travels to and from various southern cities.
“Why did this happen?”
“Well, why do you think?”
In the conference room of the 7th Legion base set up outside the southern walls of Kohane. A large desk in the room holds a map of the south. It displays the deployment of forces and resources in various areas, as well as recent activity records of demons.
Senior military officers of the 7th Legion, including the legion commander, are gathered around the desk, along with civilian officials from the Kohane government and administrative organizations of various southern cities. Jez, dispatched as a civilian official from the central government, naturally found himself there.
“Excuse me, Princess René. Would you reconsider?”
“No. Jez Norman, you are ordered to join the 7th Legion as a civilian official attached to the staff. I have already contacted the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and permission has been granted.”
With that, Princess René took out a piece of paper from her pocket and fluttered it in her hand. Seeing it, Jez realized, “Oh no,” and understood that there was no escape.
A few days ago, after Jez was accidentally seen by Princess René while handling administrative tasks (physical), surprisingly, nothing happened immediately afterward. Princess René, Erin, and others, including the coachman, escorted Jez to a nearby town.
After parting ways with the coachman in that town, Jez continued with Princess René and Erin until they reached Kohane. They parted ways without any incident, leading up to today’s meeting.
During the journey to Kohane, Jez only had normal conversations with Princess René, feeling somewhat disappointed by the lack of any significant reaction. Nevertheless, he joined the meeting feeling relaxed, thinking that if nothing happened, it was fine.
The meeting involved sharing information among military and civilian officials, including additional personnel from the central government like Jez, and aligning on future strategies. As it was nearing its end, appointments and responsibilities were being communicated to everyone once again.
Then, it was Jez’s turn, and he heard the unexpected transfer orders just now. It was a complete surprise to him, as he had let his guard down completely.
“Your Highness, I am just a civilian official from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. While I am deeply honored by this appointment, being attached to the staff of the 7th Legion, especially as a guerrilla warfare unit, may be challenging both in terms of ability and physical endurance. Would you reconsider?”
While maintaining a smiling expression, Jez, sweating nervously, tried to find a way out. However,
“Huh? Challenging both in terms of ability and physical endurance? You, who managed to keep up with our cavalry’s full-speed march to Kohane and even fought off a band of thieves during the march?”
Upon hearing Jez’s struggle, Princess René continued with a smirk.
“Moreover, there was no sign of exhaustion during the march for several days. Oh, and come to think of it, you even took care of a group of bandits by yourself.”
Internally, Jez was panicking, feeling like he had been caught red-handed. Indeed, looking back, he had effortlessly kept up with the full-speed march of the active cavalry unit until Kohane and showed no signs of fatigue. Realizing his own carelessness, he began to reflect on his actions.
Although Jez outwardly maintained a smiling expression, those close to him could clearly see his agitation. Erin Saylor, from the 7th Legion Staff, intervened with a sigh of exasperation.
“Jez, seriously, just give it up already. It’s not good if Princess catches you being able to ride a horse and fight like that. If you really want to keep it hidden, then do it properly.”
While expressing her disbelief, Erin approached Jez. She and Jez had been friends since their school days, and from Erin’s perspective, Jez often seemed clueless. It seemed that his lack of attention to detail had always been a trait of his.
Interrupting any further attempts by Jez to speak, Princess René stood up, followed by the other participants in the meeting.
“Alright everyone! Today’s meeting ends here! Begin your actions according to the discussion we had earlier! While the situation hasn’t escalated yet, I’m counting on your efforts from now on!!”
With that, accompanied by a salute,
“For the sake of humanity!!”
“For the sake of humanity!!”
With a cool vibe, the meeting ended. As people dispersed from the conference room, Jez also blended into the crowd, intending to quietly return to the Kohane government office. However, someone grabbed his shoulder with a “clap.”
“Where are you going? Jez Norman. Your new workplace is this way.”
“…Haha, Your Highness René, I was just thinking of going to the restroom for a bit.”
