When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 21
Episode 21
With the momentum of having defeated the Orc General, Oscar and the 2nd Regiment of the 8th Legion were rampaging through the surrounding area. Oscar’s halberd roared, Sofia’s chariot dashed across the battlefield, and Clara scattered attack magic from the chariot.
At first glance, the battle seemed to be unfolding in favor of the 8th Legion, but…
“Captain! Things are getting tough!”
Sofia, maneuvering the chariot, advised Oscar while observing the entire battlefield.
Oscar, focused on slaughtering the enemies in front of him, hadn’t been able to grasp the overall flow of the battlefield, but Sofia, as his vice-captain, was covering for him by discerning the flow of battle while riding across the battlefield.
“Enemies are gradually gathering from other areas! Enemies are also gathering near the city gate! If we continue like this, we’ll be isolated in the heart of the enemy camp!”
While Sofia was updating Oscar on the situation, the surrounding demons continued to attack incessantly. Clara and the other members fought back, but there was no sign of the enemy numbers diminishing.
Initially, at the moment they rushed out of the city gate, Oscar’s forces had the upper hand in local battles. However, the enemy gradually redirected their forces toward the area where the 2nd Regiment was wreaking havoc. Furthermore, attacks on the city gate were intensifying in parallel with the counterattacks against Oscar’s forces.
Currently, Oscar, Sofia’s cavalry unit, and the chariot unit were receiving support fire from the fortress city and were not isolated. However, if they continued like this, there was a danger of being overwhelmed by the enemy’s numbers, pushed to areas where they couldn’t receive support from the fortress city, and surrounded.
Recognizing this situation, Oscar reassessed the surroundings.
“Sofia! Do you see any movement from the 7th Legion’s vanguard?”
Seeing this moment as crucial, Oscar decided that if there was no movement from the 7th Legion at this time, they would retreat into the city gate. Praying inwardly, he confirmed:
“…The 7th Legion is on the move! They’re charging into the battlefield with incredible force!”
Meanwhile, charging towards the massive demon army surrounding Graysian, the Al-Faz’s unit of 70 plus one horse pushed forward. Even Jez, who was usually calm, couldn’t help but smirk inwardly at the considerable difference in strength as they charged at full speed.
While mocking Jamil for being somewhat insane but composed, Jamil quickly led the charge towards the enemy lines.
“Let’s go all out!”
Jamil, leading from the front, gave the command. The 70 members of the Al-Faz’s unit simultaneously drew their bows and unleashed tactical magic arrows. The resulting explosion created a breach in one corner of the enemy lines.
“Charge! Don’t slow down!”
From a distance, it looked like the small tear in the enemy lines was swiftly inundated by the Al-Faz’s unit. The demon army, distracted by the rampage of the 8th Legion inside the camp, hadn’t expected an attack from behind, causing further confusion.
Taking advantage of this chaos, the Al-Faz’s unit swiftly broke through the enemy lines with just 70 plus one horse. While some demons quickly recovered from the confusion and attempted to interfere with Jamil and his group, they couldn’t get close due to the scattered attacks. Furthermore, with Jamil’s group sprinting ahead, they couldn’t mount an effective response.
Seeing this assault, the 8th Legion on the other side also changed their marching direction and charged straight towards the Al-Faz’s unit.
The 2nd Regiment of the 8th Legion and the Al-Faz’s unit charging into the midst of the demon army surrounding Graysian finally converged on the battlefield.
“Reinforcements, thank goodness! I’m Jamil Al-Faz, the captain of the 7th Legion vanguard!”
“I’m Oscar Bailey, the commander of the 2nd Regiment of the 8th Legion! It might be odd to say this here, but welcome to Graysian, Alphas! We’ll escort you to Graysian from here!”
Having picked up the Al-Faz’s unit, Oscar’s 2nd Regiment reversed direction on the battlefield and entered the route to return to Graysian Castle.
With a total of 571 riders, the 2nd Regiment and the Al-Faz’s unit raced towards Graysian. Oscar, to protect the Al-Faz’s unit, gathered them in the center of the group and had the chariots guard them from the surrounding area. He then fell back to the rear of the group to serve as the rearguard.
Seeing Oscar’s forces joining the 7th Legion vanguard and attempting to return to the fortress city, the heavily armored infantry, archers, and magic users intensified their attacks to support them.
Magic and arrows filled the battlefield, amidst which surged a massive army of monsters launching relentless attacks. As they finally caught sight of the city gate, the heavy infantry unit began adjusting their formation to welcome Oscar and his comrades.
Just one more push.
At that very moment, as everyone in the 2nd Regiment and the Al-Faz’s unit thought so, a small opening emerged.
“What!?”
An attack from the monsters struck directly at a chariot positioned at the rear right flank of the cavalry and chariot unit, throwing out its crew. The chariot of Sophia and Clara’s group, located nearby, narrowly avoided being caught up, but they moved away from the battle line to assist.
As a result, the formation on the right flank of the group began to falter, but upon seeing this, Sophia shouted, “Don’t stop! Keep moving forward!” She issued instructions to those around her. Oscar and the others, a bit further away, couldn’t immediately halt their momentum due to the cavalry’s speed. Frustratedly, Oscar muttered, “Damn it!” and then commanded, “Sophia, get back immediately! Make sure to hold the line!”
The group of cavalry and chariots couldn’t stop suddenly, especially not when they had gained such momentum. To prevent confusion among the troops, Oscar made the difficult decision to send the Al-Faz’s unit into the city, a decision that weighed heavily on his face.
Meanwhile, Sophia and Clara, who had moved away from the group, quickly retrieved the wounded from their chariot. Although monsters attempting to approach them were somewhat restrained by support fire from the city walls, Sophia noticed a voice coming from near the city wall.
“The Orc General is coming!”
Turning back at Sophia’s realization, she saw the Orc General, wielding a large shield, breaking through the barrage and looming dangerously close.
“Eek!”
A scream came from Clara beside her. It was a desperate situation. Determined to at least save Clara, Sophia gripped her lance tightly, glaring at the enemy.
Recognizing her courageous demeanor, the Orc General smirked and swung his large sword downward, but just before it could strike Sophia…
“Huh?”
A figure leaped between Sophia and the Orc General at the last moment, causing a thunderous sound as the ground beneath their feet trembled, and intercepted the sword.
A true clash of blades.
The entire battlefield fell into a momentary silence. Amidst the confusion, both humans and monsters alike struggled to comprehend what had just happened. Only Jamil and the members of the Al-Faz’s unit, who had finally reached the gates of Graysian, found themselves in a situation where they couldn’t comprehend why that person was there, holding their heads in confusion.
“That was close… This damn Orc, grinning like that…”
In the midst of the battlefield, a man clad in what seemed to be completely out of place official attire intercepted the Orc General’s sword and snapped it in half.
In the face of a life-threatening crisis, a man wearing official attire intercepted the attack of the Orc General, and the broken sword… Wait, official attire?
With too much information to process, Sophia murmured, her expression muddled with confusion, “Huh? Why is there a bureaucrat here?”
