When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 28
Episode 28
The color that dyed the world was crimson.
It was as if a colossal tower from myth had collapsed and fallen. The towering column of flame, reaching up to the heavens, slowly crumbled in accordance with Princess René’s swing of the Flame Sovereign. The scorching heat was so intense that it seemed as if the sun itself were descending upon the earth, approaching both monsters and humans indiscriminately.
“All forces, deploy maximum output heat-resistant barriers!”
Having withdrawn from the battle with the Orc King and retreated to the vicinity of the Graysian city walls, Finn gave orders, and a massive heat-resistant barrier, covering the entire fortress city of Graysian, was deployed.
Just after the entire 8th Legion had evacuated from the battlefield and retreated to Graysian, the gigantic pillar of flame falling from the sky finally engulfed the entire battlefield. Weak monsters evaporated from the shockwaves alone before touching the flames directly, while those that endured were ignited upon contact with the flames falling from the sky.
The Ninth Tier Magic, Flame of Judgment, struck directly at the heart of the densely packed enemy forces, incinerating everything and reducing it to nothingness.
At the source of this magic.
Princess René, with her hair and eyes glowing crimson amidst the fantastical spectacle of flames flickering like snow, spread her wings of crimson and, like a heavenly messenger from a story, exuded a sacred aura.
“Hahahahahaha!! Burn it all!!!!!”
With an atmosphere-shattering lack of solemnity, she laughed loudly, almost madly.
Observing this scene from nearby, Captain Lily Johnson of the Royal Guard continued to imbue her special shield with magic, inwardly lamenting, “What a fool. She’d just be a beauty without this,” with the casualness of a childhood friend.
After the princess unleashed her strategic-level magic, Erin, who had been gathering the 7th Legion for evacuation slightly behind her, also deployed heat-resistant barriers with all her might.
Similar to Lily, while wearing a somewhat subtle expression, she continued to gaze at her sovereign, the Scarlet Celestial Angel, who continued to laugh loudly at the center of the crimson world.
…
A few minutes later, after the 9th Tier Magic, which emitted such brilliance and heat that it seemed to burn down the entire world, finally began to be extinguished, the full extent of its power became apparent as the black smoke enveloping the entire battlefield gradually cleared.
The strategic-level magic that had exploded in the midst of the gathering monster army around the plains, guided by the 8th and 7th Legions, incinerated over half of the enemy forces.
It had incinerated over fifty thousand enemies in a single strike.
Cheers erupted from those gathered on the walls of Graysian as they confirmed the overwhelming power and achievements. Similarly, cheers also rose from the members of the 7th Legion stationed behind Princess René.
Depending on the situation, the general ratio of strength between humans and monsters was said to be about 1:10. In other words, if there were a thousand humans, they could face off against approximately ten thousand monster soldiers.
Of course, exceptional individuals on both sides frequently appeared, so this strength ratio couldn’t always be relied upon as a single benchmark. However, it provided some guidance.
In the Tashman Kingdom, each legion consisted of about five thousand soldiers, which meant that facing fifty thousand monsters would result in a fifty percent chance of victory in a direct confrontation.
In the case of a siege, considering the triple attack principle, a fortress city like Graysian could hold out against approximately one hundred and fifty thousand monster soldiers. Of course, this was under the assumption that there were no exceptional individuals like the Orc King.
The monsters also understood this strength ratio experientially. Therefore, the Orc King had attempted to employ tactics such as digging tunnels from the beginning.
Even if she were present, Erin judged that considerable damage would be inflicted to protect the fortress city from a hundred thousand monster soldiers.
Such considerations of strength ratio had led the 8th Legion to proceed cautiously until now. However, with Princess René’s recent blow, the situation had changed dramatically.
The 8th and 7th Legions together amounted to approximately six thousand five hundred soldiers. However, due to the numerous casualties, there were currently only about six thousand soldiers capable of fighting. In contrast, the monster army numbered less than fifty thousand.
In other words.
“All forces, charge!!!!”
The gates of Graysian swung open, and the entire 8th Legion rushed out. Humanity had finally overwhelmed the monster army with sheer force.
Observing this scene from a slightly distant vantage point, Princess René nodded in satisfaction before collapsing to her knees.
Hair color and eyes had already returned to their usual state, but the princess, barely standing with the support of the Flame Sovereign, had no magical power left and no strength in her body.
Lily supported Princess René, who seemed about to collapse onto the ground. “You never cease to be reckless.”
“Hmph. But it wasn’t a bad move, was it?”
While sighing, Lily lent her shoulder to Princess René and spoke. The princess, despite being exhausted, smiled smugly in response.
Seeing the two in such a state, Erin tried to push the other members of the 7th Legion to the forefront while attempting to move the princess and Lily, along with the Royal Guard, further back. However,
“Gaaaaahhh!!!”
The Orc King, rising steadily from within the vast charred area, roared in anger. Although his skin was hideously burnt and blood flowed from his entire body, signs of gradual recovery could be seen.
Many charred monsters could be seen around the Orc King. It seemed that he had used other individuals as shields, allowed individuals capable of using magic to set up heat-resistant barriers, and relied on his own regenerative abilities to somehow survive.
In a battered state, fueled by anger, the Orc King charged straight toward Princess René and Lily.
Even though his recovery was not yet complete, the Orc King was formidable. Despite scattering the members of the 7th Legion who attempted to obstruct his path, he continued his onslaught.
Realizing the danger, Erin tried to step forward to protect the princess and Lily, but
“Get some rest already.”
A bureaucrat who appeared out of nowhere swiftly slipped into the Orc King’s embrace, and with a swift motion, plunged his elbow, imbued with magic, into the joint of the Orc King’s knee, exhaling sharply, “Hah!”
A right elbow strike.
With a dull sound of impact, the Orc King’s knee joint was completely destroyed. Screaming so loudly that it echoed across the entire battlefield, the Orc King ceased his movement.
Furthermore, taking advantage of the momentum, Jez pulled back his right hand. He threw his left fist, charged with magic, towards the Orc King’s heart as the Orc King stumbled and knelt.
A left Heartbreak Shot.
The Orc King writhed in agony as his chest was torn apart. Just as his heart seemed to stop from the overwhelming shock, Jez delivered the final blow.
Jumping up, Jez grabbed the Orc King’s head with both hands and smashed his right knee, filled with all his remaining magical power, into the Orc King’s jaw.
A flying knee kick.
With a satisfying sound akin to bursting a water balloon, the Orc King’s head disappeared.
“If you target both the head and the heart simultaneously, there’s no way he’ll recover, right?”
Jez’s brilliantly executed series of attacks left both humans and monsters stunned, and the battlefield fell silent.
As blood rained down from where the Orc King’s head once was, Jez, landing lightly on the ground, turned back towards Erin and the princess.
With flushed cheeks and a blissful expression, Princess René met Jez’s gaze with dreamy eyes and a ferocious grin. It was a perfect match.
“Geh.”
Later, the princess remarked, “That was the day I understood fate.”
In another place, Jez would later recount, “It was a smile that genuinely made me feel in danger.”
