When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 3
Episode 3
The place where Jez, who failed in his magnificent escape, was dragged by Princess René turned out to be the staff room of the 7th Legion base.
“Everyone, thank you for your efforts in the previous meeting. Your preparations were impeccable, and your responses were appreciated.”
As Princess René entered the staff room, she addressed the members of the staff who were gathered inside. Upon noticing her entrance, the members each greeted her with a slight salute and then noticed the civilian official being dragged along.
“Legion Commander, could you introduce him to us again?”
An elderly man, Hugo Zwey, who serves as the Chief of Staff of the 7th Legion and also acts as Princess René’s attendant, asked what everyone was likely thinking.
“Ah, Hugo, thank you for your efforts in the previous meeting as well. This is Jez Norman. Haven’t you all heard?”
With the princess’s extremely brief introduction, a slightly puzzled atmosphere spread among the members in the room. Since only a few members of the staff, including the chief of staff Hugo and Erin, had participated in the previous meeting, others from the staff were in a state of “Who is this guy?”
Despite feeling the subtle tension in the room, Jez, while ignoring it completely, straightened his disheveled clothes after gently releasing the princess’ hand from his shoulder and greeted everyone as if nothing had happened.
“Nice to meet you all. I’m Jez Norman. I’ve been transferred to the 7th Legion Staff from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. I’m delighted to be able to join the prestigious 7th Legion led by Princess René.”
Ignoring the extremely subtle atmosphere in the room and without mentioning anything about being dragged by the princess, Jez greeted everyone with a smile. Everyone thought, “Oh, this guy might be trouble.”
Princess René watched the scene with a smirk, Erin sighed with a shake of her head, and Hugo pondered with his hand on his chin, wondering what to do next.
…
After Princess René left the staff room, Jez had been interacting with the staff for a while when suddenly,
“Jez Norman! I don’t know if it’s because of the princess’ recommendation or what, but don’t get cocky! There’s a certain way things are done here!”
A man of Jez’s age suddenly intervened. Erin tried to stop him, but Hugo interrupted her.
“Rail, calm down. I understand how you feel. I’m honestly troubled by Princess’ sudden order this time too. So, Norman, can you show us your abilities?”
Well, Jez, who thought that the scene would be unpleasant as soon as it became clear that a central government official was transferred suddenly and seemed to be the princess’ favorite, while understanding internally, thought it was troublesome.
“Jez, make sure to do it properly here. I want you to be reliable, considering the future.”
Before saying anything, Erin nailed it.
“…I understand.”
…
Rail Oswald is a young military officer belonging to the staff of the 7th Legion. Originally, he belonged to the Ministry of Military Affairs, but he came to the 7th Legion Staff about two years ago due to a secondment.
At the age of 24, he had been in service for six years since he entered the military at the age of 18. He is recognized by himself and others as a rising star among his peers.
He has been with Princess René, who became the commander of the 7th Legion at the young age of 20, since she arrived two years ago, and it can be said that his efforts have greatly contributed to the current state of the 7th Legion.
Although he is somewhat inflexible, he is highly trusted by the leaders of the staff, such as Hugo and Erin.
Therefore, he naturally has his thoughts about Jez Norman, who suddenly appeared.
Moreover, it seems that he knows Erin. Erin, who is two years older than Rail, graduated at the top of the Royal Academy and immediately became Princess René’s attendant. She supported her behind the scenes when Princess René became the commander of the 7th Legion, and is a woman whom Rail admires.
Seeing her talk to Jez Norman in a friendly manner, which she had never shown in the 7th Legion before, made him really dislike it.
Rail, who is intertwined with public and private matters, seemed to be telling Jez, “If you can do it, show me,” as he slammed a stack of documents on him and then went out for a patrol. That was before noon.
After completing various tasks, he returned to the staff room in the evening. He thought that the cheeky newcomer must have learned his lesson and become more obedient.
But however…
“…Everything’s finished, you say⁉️”
“Yes. I’ve processed all the documents received before noon.”
“That’s absurd! That amount would normally take a week to handle!”
Rail, upon hearing a completely unexpected response, raised his voice and then turned to Hugo and Erin who were nearby.
“Chief of Staff! Senior Erin!! Did he really finish the work⁉️”
Upon hearing Rail’s question, Hugo had a somewhat bewildered expression as he replied,
“…What Norman said is true. He managed to process the amount of documents that would take us a week in just half a day.”
Erin, with a troubled smile, confirmed Jez’s words, saying,
“It’s true. That’s why he’s a handful.”
As Rail, stunned by the surprise, looked towards Jez, the smug one opened his mouth and said,
“This is my unique magic, the KANBAN method.”
“The KANBAN method, you say⁉️”
(Note:The Kanban method is a system used in project management to visualize workflow, limit work in progress, and maximize efficiency. It originated from the Toyota Production System and emphasizes continuous improvement and flexibility. In Kanban, tasks are represented as cards on a board, with columns representing different stages of the workflow. Team members move cards across the board as they progress through the work, helping to track the status of tasks and identify bottlenecks. This method is popular in software development, but it can be applied to various industries and types of work.)
As Rail, taking Jez’s words seriously, expressed his astonishment, Erin intervened with a sigh, saying,
“Rail, that’s just Jez’s joke.”
“The reason Jez is so devious is because he really does have exceptional administrative skills.”
