When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 44
Episode 44
Confident voices echoed across the silent battlefield. Standing resolutely before the Orc Emperor, who quietly emanated an aura of anger, was a civil official.
“It’s quite a hassle to handle this alone, isn’t it? Oh well, I guess I’ll lend a hand.”
Next to the man clad in an out-of-place official uniform stood Erin. Seeing this, René, though not entirely sure herself, felt she couldn’t afford to lose.
“Hold on, that prey is mine.”
Straining with all her might, René once again raised her sword, sporting a fierce grin, as she stood beside the civil official.
—
Though Jez boldly stood before the Orc Emperor, declaring to take him on, the reality was quite different. The pen he received from Victor was already broken, and his own magical power had yet to fully recover.
While only Serena and René were able to use strategic-grade magic on this battlefield, both of them had already exhausted their powers after unleashing their major techniques.
Though René valiantly rose to her feet and readied her sword, she would not be able to fight properly.
Though the situation appeared completely hopeless when looked at calmly,
“I’m the vice-captain this time. Can’t just run away.”
Jez, maintaining a casual tone as he grumbled, took his stance. Erin, who stood beside him, gently touched Jez’s shoulder and said,
“Gather, O light of courage, grant power to this brave one.”
A faint light emanated from Erin and flowed into Jez,
“O legendary heroes, impart your power to him who goes forth to battle. May brave hearts, unyielding wills, and absolute courage dwell within him, shining in the final battle.”
With the completion of the incantation, the strengthening magic was bestowed upon Jez. Erin, nearly collapsing to her knees, was quickly supported by Jez.
“Sorry, and thanks for that.”
“Don’t worry about it. More importantly, let’s wrap this up quickly.”
After gently setting Erin down on the ground, Jez smirked and stepped forward towards the Orc Emperor.
Even while René provided distractions, the Orc Emperor, quietly observing the situation, surprisingly waited.
“You’re unexpectedly patient, aren’t you?”
The civil official remained unruffled no matter the circumstances.
—
In the heart of the battlefield, a lone figure clashed with a formidable opponent. The fluidity of offense and defense exchanges prevented surrounding allies from providing support.
Both humans and monsters alike were captivated by the intensity of their fight.
Punching, dodging, swinging swords, parrying, kicking, and blocking. The Orc Emperor fully demonstrated his physical prowess, while Jez deployed all the techniques at his disposal in the battle.
However,
“Ugh…”
Seizing a momentary opening, Jez was kicked away. The Orc Emperor’s strike. It was a decisive blow.
Though managing to fend it off somehow, Jez was just slightly delayed in responding, resulting in taking a significant blow.
“Hey, seriously?”
Surrounding onlookers, including Jamil and the Al-Faz’s unit, murmured in astonishment. Jez couldn’t win? The guy who had been displaying incomprehensible strength all along?
Thrown back and rolling on the ground, bleeding from his mouth, Jez managed to stand up somehow, but,
“Gwaaahhh!” “…Kuh!?”
Once again, Jez was kicked away. The Orc Emperor had begun to toy with his prey.
Punched, kicked, slammed into the ground repeatedly, Jez endured the onslaught.
Though Erin and René tried to rush to his aid, Lilly and Jamil desperately held them back.
And finally, Jez became unable to stand up from the ground.
A silence fell over the battlefield.
Looking disdainfully at the scene, the Orc Emperor raised his sword to deliver the finishing blow.
Just as everyone thought, “It’s over,”
“Damage has exceeded the designated threshold. Self-defense mode will now be activated.”
Suddenly, an impersonal voice echoed from somewhere, and the Orc Emperor’s raised sword was intercepted by a defensive barrier deployed from the official’s attire.
—
Amidst the haze of consciousness, rolling on the ground after enduring countless attacks from the Orc Emperor, Jez found himself recalling memories from his student days.
On that particular day, Jez was as usual engaging in banter with Victor between classes.
“…It’s like, you know, there might be forms of governance and politics like that, right?”
“Hey, don’t say that elsewhere, okay? Depending on where you say it, that could easily be considered dangerous thinking or even treason against the state. In an absolute monarchy and military state like this, those ideas are way too risky. …But seriously, your perspective is interesting.”
Victor, often considered eccentric by those around him, momentarily returned to his normal self to make a witty remark. That was Jez Norman for you.
Victor himself was aware that he had a somewhat unconventional sensibility, but in Jez’s case, it wasn’t just a matter of being unconventional. His thought processes were fundamentally different. It was as if he belonged to a different world altogether.
Having known Jez since their time at the Royal Academy for several years, Victor, an alchemist, even harbored a sense of admiration for Jez’s free-thinking, unbound by conventional history or norms.
Whenever Victor talked with Jez, his creative spirit surged endlessly. However, since the story he just heard involved politics, it felt a bit risky.
Well, whatever the case, it was extremely interesting. Civilians commanding the military. It would be an idea that wouldn’t even come up in the Tashman Kingdom. Even in the rearward countries like the Western Republics or Federations, it would be difficult, wouldn’t it?
For Jez, it was just ordinary chitchat. However, from the perspective of someone from an absolute monarchy and a hardcore military state, his thoughts were heretical. It was from Jez’s free-thinking that Victor drew inspiration, leading to the creation of that conceptual armament.
“Damage has exceeded the designated threshold. Self-defense mode will now be activated.”
A mechanical voice suddenly emanated from the official attire. Jez, while regaining clarity in his hazy consciousness, couldn’t help but express astonishment, “Why is the attire speaking?” as he thanked Victor.
Well, he had always thought there was no way the official attire he received from him as a congratulatory gift upon employment was just ordinary. And after all, it had been about eight years since he started using it, and it hadn’t degraded at all, so he had suspected there was something to it.
At least give me some explanation. What were you going to do if I didn’t notice? Jez muttered complaints while mustering his last bit of strength to stand up unsteadily.
And then, naturally, words floated into his mind.
“Draw forth the essence of law and order from the fountain of ancient wisdom, and gather it in my hands.”
Managing to stand up steadily, albeit unsteadily, Jez stood resolutely at the heart of the battlefield.
“Be the wedge of reason, shattering the wall of chaos. With the light of intellect, dispel the darkness of war and establish the foundation of peace.”
Seeing his figure, the Orc Emperor, feeling an indescribable fear, hurriedly swung his greatsword, but it was once again blocked by the automatically deployed defense barrier.
“Release your power in response to my wish, and bring forth the order of justice, denying the rule of might in this world as well.”
The pattern on the official attire began to faintly glow, gradually increasing in intensity.
“Banish the shadow of war with the light of intellect, and sever the chain of violence with the sword of reason. The light of law dispels darkness, and the sword of reason cuts off injustice. My voice is a command, and my words are law.”
The shining official attire absorbed the residual magic power lingering over the entire battlefield, further increasing its radiance.
“Be the shield of reason and justice, and become the light that illuminates the path to peace. Establish the rule of law and deny the rule by force.”
As the dense magic power surplus emitted intense heat, the official attire transformed to release heat from various slits.
“Manifest the will of us civilians, here on this battlefield. Let the control by civilian will manifest as the absolute power that encompasses all. Conceptual Armament Activation, Civilian Control Leviathan!!!”
With a particularly intense light emitted, a wave of overwhelming magic power emanated from the transformed official attire.
Conceptual Armament, Civilian Control Leviathan.
The concept it symbolized was “civilian control of the battlefield”.
The Orc Emperor, dumbfounded by the overwhelming wave of magic power, but,
“Never lose sight of your opponent.”
In an instant, Jez, who had slipped into his guard, swung his fist.
A straight right punch.
The Orc Emperor, blown away, managed to guard somehow. However, as he was blown away, Jez, who had circled around to his side,
A spinning left kick.
With a thunderous roar, as if a bomb had exploded at close range, the Orc Emperor was blown away even further. But being of Emperor-class, he endured despite staggering.
The two strikes just now were already imbued with considerable magic power. For an average person, it would not be surprising if they ran out of magic just from that. Would the Orc Emperor wait for his opponent to run out of magic?
“!?”
The residual magic power lingering on the battlefield was once again absorbed by the official attire. This conceptual armament, Civilian Control Leviathan, symbolized the concept of “civilian control of the battlefield”.
This referred to a state where all the magic power on the battlefield could be freely manipulated. In other words, it meant that there would be no magic depletion. Quite literally, the civilians would be controlling everything on the battlefield.
Realizing this, the Orc Emperor’s expression contorted visibly enough for even humans to notice.
Noticing this, Jez said, “Well then, shall I go for the finishing blow?” and began gathering magic power with all his might. Right beside him, René and Erin approached.
“There are many things I want to criticize, but… take my magic power.”
“I don’t have much left either.”
René’s hand rested on his right shoulder, and Erin’s hand on his left, and magic power flowed from both of them. Despite being on the brink of magic depletion, the passionate, fiery magic flowed along with their thoughts.
The transformed official attire shone even brighter, and the patterns drawn on it pulsated with the flow of magic, while excess heat was released from various slits.
“Thank you both… I’ll give him a good punch.”
Without looking back, Jez approached the Orc Emperor once more.
The vast amount of magic power gathered from René, Erin, and the entire battlefield was absorbed into the official attire, then converged into Jez’s right hand.
“Gather, ancient wisdom and future hope, in my right hand, forming power. With the golden brilliance dwelling in this fist, bring forth the winds of change.”
Step by step, Jez approached the Orc Emperor.
“Infuse this strike with the power to change history and carve out a new path. Source of power, through my fist, influence the world to turn ideals into reality.”
All the magic power converged into his right fist, dyeing the world in a dazzling golden hue.
“May this golden fist be the light that puts an end to tyranny and violence, guiding the way to peace! Tenth Tier Neutral Attribute Magic, Bloodless Revolution”
Finally, with a powerful step forward, Jez lunged towards the Orc Emperor with all the elasticity in his body.
Golden Right Straight.
A torrent of light engulfed the Orc Emperor, painting the world in the light of hope.
Thus, the Emperor of the monsters fell, and a new era dawned upon the Tashman Kingdom, brought forth by the cunning and courage of the civil servant..
