When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 6
Episode 6
“I see, so you don’t use a sword? Then what kind of fighting do you do normally?”
“Well, Your Highness, I’m a civil servant, so I don’t fight at all.”
“Enough with the excuses, just tell me already.”
Shortly before 7 a.m. on a weekday. Jez, who was engaged in morning activities (physical training) at the training ground within the 7th Legion’s encampment, found himself being approached by Princess René early in the morning.
Having sweated profusely with Rail and other members of the staff department since the morning, Jez was just about to think about taking a shower and having breakfast before going to work. However, he was found training by Princess René, and thus the situation unfolded.
Using the wooden sword handed to him by Erin, Jez engaged in a few exchanges with René. René, realizing that Jez’s sword skills were not bad but not exceptional either, began to lose some interest in him.
At this moment, Erin’s statement, “Jez hardly ever uses a sword,” came into play.
Jez had been scheming to somehow ease the situation so that Princess René wouldn’t be further interested in him. However, Erin’s unnecessary remark ruined his plan. Despite this setback, he continued to rack his brains, wondering if there was still a way to handle the situation smoothly.
“Hmm, still thinking about some nonsense? Shall I force you to show your true abilities?”
Seeing Jez’s unyielding demeanor, Princess René, with a fierce smile reminiscent of a predatory animal facing its prey, said, “Be sure to defend yourself.”
With those words, she instantly imbued herself and her wooden sword with magic and lunged at him.
“Watch out!!”
Jez barely managed to dodge her attack, but the princess’s onslaught continued.
“Hahaha!! Jez Norman!! You better get serious or it’s gonna hurt!!”
With her unnecessarily high spirits, Princess René swung her wooden sword enhanced with magic. However, Jez, inwardly grumbling about swinging such a thing around in a mock battle, narrowly avoided all her attacks.
Even as Princess René increased the speed of her attacks to match Jez’s increasingly serious movements, their mock battle had already reached a remarkably high level. Members of the staff department like Rail, who were watching nearby, were amazed, and more and more spectators were gathering.
By the way, although Erin thought to herself, “Jez really has no sense of urgency,” she had already activated recovery magic just in case.
While Jez was aware of the commotion around him, he was fully focused on Princess René’s relentless attacks, thinking, “This princess is really strong.” Yet finally,
“It seems you still have the luxury to think about such things!!”
With an extremely excited expression, Princess René, without a care in the world, swung her magically reinforced wooden sword with all her might towards Jez’s torso. The speed was truly astonishing. An average knight would have had trouble blocking such a blow.
“Huff!”
Jez intercepted the blow by sandwiching Princess René’s wooden sword with his knee and elbow, then shattered it.
“What!?”
Not only was Princess René surprised by the fact that her blow had been stopped, but she was also stunned by the fact that her magically reinforced wooden sword had been shattered.
Generally, the strength of something reinforced with magic increases dramatically. Even though it was made of wood and meant for training, when infused with magic, it became a sturdy blunt weapon. However, Jez shattered it with a single blow.
After throwing away the shattered wooden sword, Princess René quickly distanced herself from Jez, snatched a wooden sword from the nearby gallery, and got ready without lowering her guard. Then, with a completely determined expression,
“What was that just now!!!? That was amazing!!!”
She once again infused her wooden sword with magic, increasing the amount of magic even more than before and enhancing the strength of her own body.
Seeing the enthusiastic princess’s behavior, Jez sighed lightly, put down the wooden sword he was holding, and took a firm stance.
“Princess, don’t you think it’s time to stop?”
“Norman, don’t say something so heartless!! Besides, you’ve finally taken a stance, haven’t you?”
The moment he placed the sword on the ground, Princess René wondered, “Why did he abandon his weapon?” But as soon as she saw Jez’s unarmed stance, a shiver ran down her spine, indicating that she understood. In other words, unarmed combat was Jez’s fighting style.
“Come to think of it, your hands were covered in blood when we first met. So that’s your way of fighting?”
“No, Your Highness. Civil servants don’t engage in combat at all.”
Observing Jez’s unwaveringly cheerful demeanor even in this situation, Princess René couldn’t help but think, “He’s truly insufferable.”
Despite the atmosphere, there was no discernible opening in his stance. His magical enhancement seemed incredibly refined, so much so that it was difficult to even tell if he was enhancing his abilities at all.
Seeing this, Princess René smirked, thinking it might be enjoyable to take this seriously for once.
“!?”
Before she realized it, Jez had stepped forward right in front of her.
“Hmph!!”
With that, he struck the palm of his right hand onto the princess’s abdomen, even through her armor.
