When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 48
Episode 48
Three weeks after the successful recapture of Bastiona, René and the others returned to the capital city of Tashman Kingdom, Nevorista, to directly report to the parliament about the Southern Great Uprising and the declaration of Royal Order 11.
Due to the ongoing reconstruction in Bastiona, only a small number of people returned for this triumphant procession to the capital.
Serena and the 10th Legion remained stationed in Bastiona, keeping a vigilant eye on the demon territories. Oscar from the 8th Legion returned to Graysian, ensuring the frontline defense remained robust.
From the 7th Legion, René, Erin, the Royal Guard of a hundred led by René, Lilly’s unit, and members of the staff like Hugo and Rail, along with the Al-Faz’s unit escorting them, totaling about 250 individuals, joined the procession.
Additionally, Maria Valenti, the interim commander of the 9th Legion, along with her escort of a hundred riders, set out for the capital. Maria, having been temporarily appointed as commander by Elliot during wartime, needed formal appointment by the king.
The rest of the 9th Legion remained in Bastiona, aiding in reconstruction alongside the 10th Legion.
Of course, our civilian official, is also accompanying Princess René as her chief secretary, accompanied this entourage. Thus, a group of around 350 individuals set out from Kohane towards the capital.
—
The journey from Kohane to the capital took about two weeks. This time, the journey proceeded without any notable incidents.
Jez, who happened to be present during administrative work along the route from the capital to Kohane, was discovered by Princess René and Erin. However, this time, Jez felt truly relieved as nothing significant happened.
Having completed such a smooth journey, they finally arrived at the capital. As a precursor to René’s group of 350, Fatima from the Al-Faz’s unit had entered the capital a few days prior to prepare for their triumphant return.
As they approached the city gates, civilians awaiting their entry into the capital and knights guarding the gate applauded. Princess René and her entourage responded with smiles and waves from atop their horses. Such behavior was natural for the royal family, especially Princess René.
The cheers and confetti greeted them as they entered the city gates, overwhelming Maria and others who hadn’t expected such a warm welcome, though they waved to the crowd with a slightly embarrassed but dignified manner.
—
Entering the capital of Nevorista, René’s group proceeded along the main street, receiving blessings from the gathered citizens.
They arrived at a large square at the end of the main street, usually open to the public for bazaars and utilized by the royal family and the military during events.
Lining up neatly in the square on this particular day were the Royal Guards!
As René’s group of 350 approached, the Royal Guards welcomed them with beaming smiles and applause, further exciting the crowd.
Maria and Jamil, not expecting such a reception from the Royal Guards, were moved to tears.
As René’s group filled the square and the crowd surrounded it, trumpets blared loudly, and the Royal Guards swiftly formed a path.
In the midst of the solemn atmosphere, the crowd gasped as a figure strode majestically down the center of the path.
“It’s King Tashman!!!”
Ramses Tashman, clad in overwhelming dignity, appeared in the town square. While he often appeared before the people and was frequently on the front lines, such appearances in front of the masses were relatively rare, heightening the excitement of the crowd.
Accompanied by the Royal Guards, King Ramses advanced to the center of the square. Seeing this, René and the others dismounted and knelt before the king.
Though the square was still filled with excitement, as soon as Ramses noticed René and the others kneeling, he raised his hand, silencing the surroundings.
With just a glance and a raised hand, the previous excitement was replaced by a hushed reverence in the square. Just by looking around and raising his hand, he commanded such authority. This was the king’s charisma, the essence of his kingship.
The tens of thousands of people gathered around the square, their eyes sparkling with anticipation, awaited the king’s words with bated breath.
Upon observing this sight, King Ramses nodded satisfactorily and began to speak in a dignified and resonant voice that echoed throughout the entire square.
“Commander René Tashman of the 7th Legion, and interim commander Maria Valenti of the 9th Legion.”
“Hmm.”
René and Maria, called forth by the king, stepped forward to kneel before him once again.
“Thanks to your efforts, our country has achieved victory in this recent battle. On behalf of the nation, I express heartfelt gratitude to you.”
The king spoke warmly while maintaining his dignity.
“Of course, I will personally convey my gratitude to the absent 8th and 10th Legions… And, Maria Valenti.”
As Maria, directly addressed by the king in front of the multitude, momentarily appeared unsettled, she concealed her inner turmoil and responded confidently.
“Hmm.”
“Did Elliot Crane fight well?”
Maria, who hadn’t expected to hear Elliot’s name from the king in this manner, widened her eyes in surprise and looked at the king.
Observing Maria’s reaction, the king, without losing his imposing demeanor, urged her to speak with a mixture of gentleness and sadness in his eyes.
“Yes. Without Commander Elliot, we wouldn’t have achieved victory this time. We owe our current situation to the time he bought for us.”
“I see.”
Having heard Maria’s words, King Ramses closed his eyes and offered a silent prayer. Many people in the square followed suit, offering prayers as well.
After a brief moment of silence, the king continued,
“I will take responsibility for protecting Elliot’s honor. And Maria Valenti, I will speak with you later at the palace. Is that understood?”
“As you wish.”
Seeing Maria’s resolute demeanor, King Ramses nodded in satisfaction and then turned to René.
“My daughter René, commander of the 7th Legion.”
“Hmm.”
“You’ve done well this time. I extend heartfelt gratitude to you and your subordinates.”
René, Erin, Lilly, Jamil, and others listened happily to the king’s commendation.
“Now, René. Where is Jez Norman?”
In the vast square packed with tens of thousands of people, amidst the overwhelming aura exuded by the Tashman King, Ramses Tashman, his expression of warm commendation for Maria and René and others suddenly changed in an instant to a ferocious grin reminiscent of a beastly king.
