When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 50
Episode 50
The scene returns to the grand square of the capital, Nevorista, where King Ramses and the Royal Guard welcome the triumphant return of René and her 350 riders. Surrounding them are tens of thousands of citizens. It’s on this grand stage that René receives a special mention from Ramses.
“By the way, René. Where is Jez Norman?”
René, having probably guessed from Hugo’s report, calls out to Jez, who was standing behind. “Over there. He’s currently serving as my chief secretary. Jez, come forward.”
Reluctantly, Jez steps forward as called by René and kneels before the king. René can’t help but inwardly wonder at how unusually compliant Jez is being.
As expected, this civil official had been plotting his escape. Jez had sensed trouble when they arrived at the grand square and had been trying to find a way to flee. However, he found himself tightly surrounded by Lilly’s elite guard unit. Lilly, having spent the past few weeks nursing him and getting to know his character, had orchestrated this.
Every time the civil official attempted to slip away unnoticed with his subtle movements, Lilly’s unit demonstrated beautiful coordination to thwart him. It was a ridiculous display of advanced maneuvering over a very trivial reason.
In the end, Lilly herself kept a close watch on Jez’s every move from beside him. While Jez’s comment, “Hey, make sure to protect Princess René,” was somewhat reasonable, Lilly casually responded with a smile, “René-chan has Erin-senpai with her,” deflecting his concern.
Having failed to escape, Jez finally resigned himself to stepping forward before the king.
—
In the center of the grand hall, a civil official kneels before the king. While it’s a common scene in the palace for civil officials to kneel before the king, it’s quite surreal to see it happen under the open sky, watched by tens of thousands of people and the Royal Guard.
Although Ramses feels somewhat out of place, he tries not to show it on his face as he follows the script of William, the prime minister suspected of personal vendettas.
“Jez Norman. It’s been a while. Five years since we’ve met face to face, hasn’t it?”
“Yes, Your Majesty. It’s been a while.”
With the king bringing up events from five years ago, Jez can somewhat guess where the conversation is headed.
“I’m glad you’re well. Following your actions on the Northern Front five years ago, and now this recent feat, I extend the nation’s heartfelt gratitude.”
The king bows to Jez, acknowledging his achievements. Not only for this incident but also for something the civil official apparently did on the Northern Front, which the crowd murmurs about.
And there are reporters scattered around, busy jotting down notes. Some rush to their headquarters to prepare an extra edition. Despite thinking, “This is not good,” Jez can only go with the flow at this point.
“Thank you very much. It’s an honor, but I haven’t done anything significant. It’s all thanks to Princess René’s leadership.”
Although Jez tries to attribute the achievements to René even at this point, Ramses smiles and says, “Jez, give it up. This time, your whims are far beyond what can be accommodated. Not only the country, but the whole world is interested in the outcome of this battle.”
With a smile, Ramses continues, “So stand up, Jez Norman. Show the world your abilities.”
—
The crowd gathered in the square, watching the events unfold, seems to understand that the king himself will engage in a mock battle, and the atmosphere turns festive.
The king’s opponent is a young civil official. …Really, a civil official? Why a civil official? Everyone wonders, but since the king seems so enthusiastic, they assume there must be some reason for it. It’s like a mysterious collective psychology at work.
In the bustling grand square of Nevorista, cheers fill the air. In the center, the king and the civil official face each other. While Jez is at a loss, the surrounding area is abuzz with excitement.
The crowds gathered in the square, as well as the Royal Guards and guards protecting them, eagerly watch the unfolding events.
With a smile, King Ramses then proceeds to remove his cloak, which is a symbol of his kingship, and hands it to Ilyas Valenkov, the commander of the Royal Guard who was standing nearby.
As the king gracefully flips his cloak, the cheers from the square grow even louder. King Ramses waves back in response to the cheers, embracing the moment.
Underneath that cloak emerged a muscular body that belied his age, clad in light armor that seemed easy to move in. Seeing this, Jez muttered to himself, “He’s been enthusiastic from the start, hasn’t he…”
While Jez was feeling disheartened, Ramses finished his light stretches, took the practice sword, and began swinging it around vigorously. Hearing the unmistakable sound of the practice sword, Jez changed his mindset. That thing could kill if it landed a hit. Despite inwardly trembling, Jez thought, That old man is serious, huh?
Ramses Tashman, a middle-aged man who was about to turn fifty, had been a fierce warrior who once roamed battlefields across the country in his youth. Since his son Leo became the commander of the First Legion, Ramses had focused on political matters. As a result, the title of the strongest in Tashman Kingdom had been handed over to Gerald Norman, commander of the Second Legion, and Serena Castillo, commander of the Tenth Legion.
Originally, Ramses Tashman himself had been renowned as one of the strongest warriors in the kingdom. Therefore, it made sense both in theory and practice for him to gauge the abilities of a civil official in the midst of a crisis.
With Ramses and Jez now armed with practice swords, their preparations complete, Ilyas made one last confirmation. “Are you ready? Remember, this is just a mock battle. Don’t forget that there are many civilians around.”
Ramses nodded with a very positive expression, while Jez, on the contrary, nodded with a subtle expression. Do they really understand what they’re getting into? Ilyas thought somewhat anxiously but remained calm and composed. “Alright, begin.”
As the signal to start was given, Ramses attacked Jez without any mercy. The surrounding area erupted in excitement. With the cheers behind him, Ramses increased his speed and relentlessly attacked.
“What’s the matter, lad?! You’re making quite dull moves!!”
Jez, frantically dodging the onslaught, muttered to himself, “Damn it, I’m still recovering from my illness.”
The aftereffects of the fierce battle with the Orc Emperor still lingered, and his physical condition was far from perfect. Moreover, his magic circuits were malfunctioning, making it difficult for body-enhancing spells to take effect.
Despite his condition, Jez managed to fend off the attacks somehow. However, Ramses, aware of Jez’s condition, continued to attack. “Hahaha! Your condition seems poor, but I don’t care! The battle won’t wait!”
Understanding Jez’s discomfort, Ramses continued to strike. While Jez thought, Why am I experiencing this here? Is he crazy? Well, come to think of it, he was always a bit crazy. and came to his own conclusion,
“Don’t mess around!”
Ignoring his extremely poor physical condition, Jez activated his magic power in one go. Seeing this, Ramses, with a fierce grin, increased the output of his body-enhancing magic and swung the practice sword down on Jez’s head in one fell swoop.
A fatal blow. The situation intensified. The surrounding crowd watched with bated breath. All eyes were focused ahead.
At the moment when it seemed the swords would clash, Jez, in a completely unexpected move, discarded his practice sword. Ramses, eyes wide open at this unexpected action, watched as Jez smoothly placed his hand on the practice sword looming above his head.
A disarming move.
Jez swiftly grabbed the practice sword swung at him, then threw it away. He then stepped forward into Ramses’ guard, gently placed his hand on the armor on his abdomen.
A vital point strike.
With a dull, low sound, Ramses was blown away. The tens of thousands of people gathered in the square fell silent in an instant.
And in the center,
The civil official who had struck the king’s belly punch stood quietly in the same posture. A civil official who punches the king for the 50th episode anniversary. That’s our protagonist, Jez Norman.
