When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 57
Episode 57
Lucretia Alma, the Saint. A prodigy entrusted by the Divina Church with the role of being stationed in the Tashman Kingdom, the forefront nation of humanity, at the young age of 16.
Having left the Papal State at the age of 13 and arriving in the Tashman Kingdom about three to four years ago, she energetically conducts inspections and consolation visits to frontline cities, and sometimes accompanies military expeditions as well.
Initially, the people of the Tashman Kingdom were skeptical of this young saint. However, due to her sincere attitude towards her duties and her open-mindedness in actively engaging with the culture of the Tashman Kingdom, she quickly became popular.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t participate in the current turmoil in the south because she was on a consolation mission to another front. However, for the past few weeks, she has been involved in the protection and support of refugees flowing into the capital from southern cities like Kohane, as well as providing medical care to the wounded.
As a result of her active involvement, her healthy and refreshing sun-kissed appearance further accentuated her charm.
Even if there were individuals with reservations against the church’s influence, it’s unlikely that the people of the Tashman Kingdom would speak ill of her. Yes, she is undoubtedly a legitimate saint. It was this saint who called out to Jez.
While Cynthia hesitated whether to call out to Jez, thinking, “I’m late…” and displaying a subtle expression again, others around casually observed their interaction with keen interest.
Those who knew that Jez had participated in an envoy to the Divina Papal State three to four years ago, as well as those who knew that he had been involved with Lucretia in the church occasionally since then, were not particularly concerned. Other observers, while feeling the rarity of Lucretia’s flawless demeanor, watched the situation unfold.
Despite feeling the curious gazes around him, Jez tried to find a way to escape, thinking, “This is definitely not good.”
“Teacher? I’ve heard that you’re injured. The wounds of the heroes from this battle. Please, allow both the Archbishop and me to assist. Would that be alright…?” Lucretia pleaded, her eyes moistening, her hands clasped together in prayer. Surrounding onlookers sighed at her beauty and loveliness.
And seeing this, Jez felt a chill down his spine. Oh no, this was the dangerously determined Lucretia. Was it because she had silently left the capital for several months? The bureaucrat fretted.
As Jez and Lucretia conversed, Archbishop Edelmar Solennis approached from behind. This Archbishop is a middle-aged man and Lucretia’s guardian.
Despite rumors circulating about his potential promotion to Cardinal in the homeland, he remained an eccentric who continued to stay on the frontline. It was even rumored in the history of the Divina Church that, except for the saint, he had accumulated the most virtues.
With the Archbishop approaching, exchanging polite greetings with Jez, he added, “Lord Norman, please allow me to make a request as well. We haven’t been able to contribute much to this battle. Could we at least provide you with medical treatment?”
Who could refuse the number one and number two of the church’s influence in the Tashman Kingdom? However, despite the Archbishop and Saint insisting, Jez continued to seek an excuse.
“Your Grace and Lady Saint, this is embarrassing. Please, allow me to request his treatment as well,” King Ramses, misunderstanding Jez’s reluctance as modesty, offered his assistance with a smile. For him, it was a gesture of atonement for yesterday’s deeds, but to Jez, it was an unexpected blow.
—
And several hours after the meeting in the palace, Jez found himself alone in the sturdy and austere cathedral erected in the old city of Nevorista, the capital.
Others, including René, Erin, and Lilly, were all incredibly busy. Since it was a weekday, Cynthia naturally had work too.
Even when he tried to persuade Jamil, who seemed idle, to accompany him, he received the incredibly helpful response, “I can’t be bothered with that. Besides, I’m not free either.” Left on his own, Jez made his way to the cathedral.
This Tashman Grand Cathedral, despite being one of the most renowned buildings in the Divina Church, had a vastly different architectural style compared to other churches. For instance, cathedrals in the Papal Kingdom were splendid edifices adorned with elaborate decorations. However, the cathedral here in the capital was so rugged and austere that one wouldn’t recognize it as a cathedral unless told.
Because it was originally a military facility. Even now, it’s expected to be used as a military base in emergencies.
Jez, somewhat lowering his tension, entered the cathedral while greeting acquaintances such as priests and holy knights, heading towards the Saint’s office.
It’s a bit of a shortcut because of his face, but normally, it’s not so easy to reach like this. The guards around the Saint are usually very strict. Just to be sure.
And almost precisely on time, he knocked.
“…Yes, who is it?”
A voice as clear as glass could be heard from inside the room. The hymns sung with this voice had an excellent reputation among the people of the capital.
“It’s Jez Norman.”
“Oh, you’re right on time. Please, come in.”
Yes, yes, right on time, here I come. While cracking a joke in his mind, Jez opened the door and stepped into the room.
Right high kick!
As Jez opened the door, a kick suddenly flew towards him. Although he somewhat anticipated it, he managed to dodge it somehow.
Left low kick!
Another attack came flying completely from outside his field of vision, but he managed to jump and evade it.
However, the saint, predicting his evasion, spun around on the spot while placing her hands on the ground, going into a half-handstand position, and aimed a Capoeira kick, Meia Lua de Compasso (Crescent Compass), irregularly from outside Jez’s field of view.
(Note: These Japanese writers really f-ing pushing it with their research for writing material sometimes. Btw here’s the video of the Crescent Compass move. I put the tutorial for the video, so good luck trying it out lol)
Jez, still fatigued from yesterday, couldn’t avoid it completely and was blown away from above his guard.
By the way, during the handstand, Lucretia’s robe skirt flipped up dramatically, but as a track and field type saint, she always wore shorts underneath, so there was no problem at all.
“Don’t you have any better moves?! Seriously, are you feeling okay, teacher?”
Seeing Lucretia’s grin, Jez gave up. Oh no, after leaving her alone for a few months, she’s back to her old self, or rather, has she gotten worse than before? Jez thought with a distant look in his eyes.
“Zako-zako⭐︎ Well, since it can’t be helped, let this lovely Lucretia-sama heal you. Be grateful, Mr. Bureaucrat?”
The orthodox track and field type saint, Lucretia Alma. Again, with an extremely forced cough, she said,
“Tea-cher? I heard you’re injured. The wounds of the heroes from this battle. I and the Archbishop would like to help. Would that be okay…?”
She pleaded with her eyes moist and hands clasped in prayer, using the exact same words and expressions as in the palace.
Seeing Jez’s expression, which seemed as if he had bitten a bitter bug,
“Haha! That face is the best⭐︎ Kyahaha!”
Clapping her hands, the orthodox track and field type saint (surface) burst into laughter. Or rather, she should be called the elemental delinquent footwork type saint (inner).
She was sent to the front lines after being caught misbehaving while training to be a saint.
This is the true nature of Saint Lucretia Alma.
