When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 64
Episode 64
Within the 0th Legion, Cynthia Clark, with her prestigious background, had always been seen as a candidate for leadership. In addition to that, due to her prior preparations during her time at the Royal Academy and her ability to always respond to the unpredictable behavior of Jez Norman, she quickly rose through the ranks. Before she knew it, she had reached the position of Centurion within the 0th Legion by the age of 20. Even Cynthia herself was surprised by her dedication to her duties.
However, the situation changed abruptly with Jez Norman’s sudden business trip to the Southern Front. While the 0th Legion was aware of the increased activity of monsters on the Southern Front, Cynthia’s accompanying Jez on this trip seemed too unnatural. So, leaving it to the local members of the 0th Legion, Cynthia spent the past few months in the capital city, dealing with cases that didn’t involve Jez.
During these months, Cynthia had truly forgotten about the muscle-brained senpai and happily focused on administrative tasks (assassinations). But this peaceful routine was shattered by a public debate (physical altercation) between the king and officials, initiated by the Zwey documents. Really, it was too much to handle.
Senpai Muscle-brain had only returned to the capital two days ago. Moreover, it seemed he had been involved in something with the saint and the archbishop at the cathedral. The cathedral was already difficult to monitor, and on top of that, there was a pseudo-sanctuary barrier set up by the saint. Please, stop using such absurd magic.
Then there’s the insane alchemist. He’s also designated for surveillance. He should just stay holed up in a magical tool shop in a provincial city. By the time we noticed, he wasn’t in the store anymore, and despite the frantic efforts of the 0th Legion, he was suddenly seen in the sky above the capital. Really, enough is enough. I don’t understand.
There are already plenty of troublesome situations just monitoring and protecting Jez Norman, but now we have to track down and capture Victor Alchemis as well. What’s with the Full Armor Bureaucrat Mk-II? Seriously, that guy’s nuts. Why does a pen turn into a halberd or a cannon? And the usual official attire shouldn’t even glow or transform. And what’s with the thing on his arm? I don’t know the name of that thing.
And how are we supposed to notice that it’s conceptual armament? If that kind of thing is available, then everything in the world could be conceptual armament. Seriously, don’t mess around.
Just two days after Jez Norman’s return to the capital, while internally complaining about the mountain of work the muscle-brained senpai had piled up in an instant, Cynthia Clark headed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Oh, good morning, seniors!”
With a bright smile, Cynthia greeted her senior colleagues and coworkers at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Today, too, she was ready.
—
“Huh? A visit to the Royal Academy?”
“More accurately, it’s like a visit from alumni, isn’t it?”
The day after Jez and the others enjoyed a friendly homely gathering. Jez visited the palace to discuss future plans with Erin, René, Lilly, and others.
Erin, who heard about last night’s gathering from Lilly, chuckled and murmured, “Huh? The junior from the Ministry of Internal Affairs?” That’s a different story.
When Erin intentionally muttered in a barely audible voice, Jez shouldn’t react. A wise bureaucrat learns from history and becomes a hard-of-hearing protagonist at this moment.
However, if he really ignores it, it will be scarier later, so Jez decided to invite her to dinner or weekend lunch later.
Seeing the changes in his expression, Erin somehow understood what Jez was thinking, smiled in exasperation, and changed the subject to the visit to the Royal Academy.
“When I was talking with the prime minister and the chairman yesterday, I happened to meet the principal of the Royal Academy. He asked me for a favor at that time.”
According to Erin’s explanation, the principal had asked them to share the story about the recent southern turmoil with the students. Jez, Erin, René, Lilly, and even Maria from the 9th Legion were graduates of the Royal Academy. Fortunately, there was still time before their appearance in parliament, so they decided to take care of this first.
Erin’s healing magic mentor is also at the academy. Although Saint has already dealt with Jez’s injuries, they decided to make a brief appearance there.
Within the day, Maria Valenti also agreed.
And just two days later, Jez and the others headed to the Royal Academy.
—
The day Jez and the others visited the Royal Academy, the students were buzzing with excitement. After all, active heroes were visiting their school.
Moreover, the new heroes are still young. Rather than young, their ages are not so far apart from theirs. It wasn’t unreasonable for the students who thought they might be in similar positions in a few years if they worked hard to be excited.
And in the evening, as the usual classes were mostly over, a lecture by leaders like René and Maria, the Legion commanders, began in the grand auditorium.
The large auditorium was packed with students. Many of them listened eagerly to the heroic tales of René and Maria, their eyes sparkling with interest.
Jez, Erin, Lilly, and others watched the students’ reactions and jokingly remarked, “Youth is wonderful,” while quietly overseeing the proceedings.
As the lecture by René and Maria approached its end without any issues, it was time for questions from the students.
After a few heartwarming questions like “How can I become a strong knight?” or “What should I focus on as a student?” a somewhat awkward question arose: “Do civil servants have to fight too?”
Now, as it was time to wrap up the question-and-answer session, Maria Valenti raised her hand and pointed to a certain male student.
“Next. That young man over there, please.”
“Legion Commander Valenti, thank you very much.”
Saying so, the male student who stood up from his seat, while taking a knightly salute, spoke with a determined expression.
“Please forgive my sudden rudeness. Your Excellency, would you spar with me?”
The grand auditorium erupted into chaos at the words of the male student. Teachers hurriedly tried to stop the student’s outburst.
But Maria, seeming to understand something, intervened and quietly inquired from the stage.
“Can you tell me your name?”
As everyone in the packed auditorium watched with bated breath, the boy, Nicholas Crane, declared in a strangely calm voice.
“I am Nicholas Crane… the son of Elliot Crane. Legion Commander Valenti, please spar with me.”
Once again showing a knightly salute, the boy, Nicholas Crane, was 18 years old, a third-year student at the Royal Academy.
Hearing the words of the boy, who strongly resembled the image of Elliot Crane, the commander of the 9th Legion, Maria closed her eyes for a moment. Then, with a determined expression, she opened her eyes wide.
“There’s no reason not to. Nicholas Crane, bring it on with all your might.”
The interim commander of the 9th Legion, Maria Valenti, and the Royal Academy student, Nicholas Crane, each began a quiet battle to settle their pasts and move forward.
