When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 67
Episode 67
Through this mock battle, Nicholas Crane showed a literal and overwhelming growth. A person’s magical power and magical circuits grow until around the ages of 18 to 20. This growth, similar to height and physique, usually occurs gradually over time. However, it was known that very rarely, some trigger during youth could cause a transformation in the very quality of magical power itself. This is growth through magical transformation, an event akin to breaking through one’s limits. And this is precisely what happened to Nicholas now.
His accumulated efforts, coupled with his mental growth, all miraculously aligned at this critical moment, far surpassing his limits. The sword wielded by Nicholas was enveloped in a dazzling light, approaching Maria as if it were a single strike of a sacred sword, accompanied by immense magical power.
Such a powerful sword. It was not just beyond the level of students; even a Legion Commander might find it challenging to handle. It was enough to make the audience wonder about such things.
In the midst of the shocking event, time seemed to stretch as everyone tried to etch that moment into their memories in slow motion.
“Unified Sword Style. First Strike.”
Maria murmured quietly with a mysterious resonance. This was a basic technique of the most widely practiced style in the Tashman Kingdom, typically taught as the first move when children begin training at the age of 10.
She effortlessly sliced through the radiant pseudo-holy sword wielded by Nicholas. Then, with the same motion, she stopped the sword at Nicholas’s neck with her returning blade.
“…I concede.”
Having his overwhelming strike shattered, Nicholas admitted his defeat with a refreshed feeling, then collapsed from magical exhaustion.
After a moment of silence, the arena erupted into thunderous applause. Supporting Nicholas as he fell, Maria waved to the cheers in response to their praise.
In the center of the arena stood the embodiment of the nation’s expectations for a Legion Commander.
The extraordinary magical sword Nicholas had used. The one that shattered it was a basic technique known to everyone. It was the kind of move a child learning to wield a sword for the first time would use.
Maria Valenti had elevated that technique into something entirely different. Her own Extraterrestrial Magic: The Art of Mastering The Basic. The magic, unbeknownst even to herself, had been engraved into her body as a pseudo-magic circle.
Because of this extraordinary ability, she could handle any situation flawlessly. By combining basic techniques, she could adapt to infinite scenarios, making her capable of finding a winning strategy against any situation or opponent.
This was the reason why Maria Valenti was worthy of being a Legion Commander.
After handing Nicholas over to the medical team, Maria surveyed the audience once again from the center of the arena. Only a few minutes had passed since the start of the battle. The spectators’ eyes seemed to expect something. With a slight shrug and a wry smile, she pumped herself up again and smirked defiantly.
“Listen up, everyone from the Royal Academy!! Today’s a free-for-all!!! Anyone who thinks they’re worthy, anyone who wants to test their strength!! I’ll take on all challengers!! Now, who’s next, brave souls!! Come forth!!!”
At Maria’s incredibly spirited declaration, the arena erupted once again with excitement. From then on, like a burst dam, students from the Royal Academy poured into the arena one after another, challenging Maria.
Following Nicholas was the second challenger, a female student with an orthodox swordsman style. This girl was also one of the top fighters within the Royal Academy.
However, within just two minutes of the match starting, despite giving her all from the start, she was swiftly defeated by Maria’s remarkably faithful basic swordsmanship.
The seventeenth challenger was a male student specializing in magic. As soon as the battle began, he unleashed the magic he had prepared, but Maria effortlessly countered all his attacks and claimed victory with a single stroke.
54th challenger. A male student specializing in spear fighting. He unleashes a barrage of thrusts, utilizing his reach advantage, but every strike is narrowly dodged. For about two minutes, he continues the assault without pause, but all his attacks are evaded, and he’s taken down when he’s exhausted.
72nd challenger. A female student skilled in archery. Starting the battle from opposite ends of the arena, she unleashes precise and unparalleled shots. However, all her arrows are sliced vertically in half. Slowly and calmly, amidst the watchful gaze of the audience, Maria walks through the arena, effortlessly cutting down every arrow that flies towards her, from one end to the other. And yet another victory.
99th challenger. A male student wielding the same magical sword as Nicholas. He had been preparing his magic before the match, unleashing his maximum firepower as soon as the mock battle began. A flame sword so intense that the heat reached the audience seats. Maria effortlessly cuts it down with a single strike without even moving from her spot. Another victory.
The mock battle began around 6 p.m., and now the time has passed 9 p.m. These three hours. Maria stood in the center of the arena the entire time, defeating all 99 students. During this time, she didn’t suffer a single scratch, not even a graze. Her knight’s attire remained as pristine as it was right after the lecture had ended. Without breaking a sweat, she stood proudly in the center of the arena, just like before.
This confident stance, coupled with her overwhelming strength, truly embodies the ideal Legion Commander desired by the nation. Moreover, the sword techniques Maria used during these three hours were only three:
Unified Sword Style, First Strike, Second Strike, Third Strike.
Only these. Each one is an ultra-basic technique used by beginners. Yet, by combining them to suit 99 different situations, Maria showcased an overwhelming difference in skill.
Maria’s extraordinary skill, accentuated by her mastery of basic techniques, stood out precisely because they were basic. The audience was mesmerized by her beautiful technique.
Among the audience were none other than King Ramses, Prime Minister Saylor, and Crown Prince Leo, who had come to watch. Before they knew it, it had become a royal audience. Even the students were feeling pumped up.
As the clock struck 9, it was time for the 100th challenger. This naturally heightened the tension among the spectators to its peak.
The final battle. Maria Valenti roared with determination.
“Now! Who’s the last one?! The hundredth challenger!!!”
The arena erupted into cheers. And who would adorn the climax of this grand event?
Before anyone realized it, members of the brass band, who had gathered, played a solemn entrance music. All eyes turned to the arena entrance.
In the center of the arena stood the Legion Commander, waiting to face the challenger. And finally, a male student emerged from the entrance onto the stage.
Unlike the previous students, he wasn’t wearing any equipment at all, despite the pressure of the situation. With a completely calm expression, he confidently strode forward. Already exuding an aura of dignity.
Wearing the Royal Academy uniform neatly and sporting black-rimmed glasses, with the armband of the “Student Council” on his arm.
He looked like a civilian official trainee. There was no way he looked like he was about to participate in a mock battle. Seeing him, Maria couldn’t help but wonder, but the moment he appeared, cheers erupted not only from the students but also from the citizens of the capital.
Maintaining his cool demeanor befitting a civil servant, the student council president concluded his greeting with a crisp knight’s salute, adjusting his glasses with a flick.
“Pleased to make your acquaintance, Your Excellency Maria Valenti. I am Luca Norman. My brother has always been in your care.”
A third-year student at the Tashman Royal Academy and the student council president. He’s also the three-time consecutive champion of the student martial arts tournament.
The ultimate weapon of mankind, the Northern Berserker, the shield of humanity’s offspring. The successor to the Norman family, the strongest man of the student generation, excelling in both academics and martial arts, and a future leader.
Luca Norman had stepped onto the stage to stop Maria Valenti’s rampage of defeating a hundred challengers.
After finishing his greeting, the student council president took a bag from his uniform pocket, put it on both fists, and said,
“Now, Your Excellency. It’s time for a debate. Let’s have a discussion to our heart’s content.”
With a smile reminiscent of his older brother, who seemed to be working as a civil servant somewhere, he clapped his fists together.
(Note: wtf?!!!!!!!!! Now there’s two of them?!)
