When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 75
Episode 75
Jez Norman, who is ultimately involved in all these recent events, including the Southern Great Uprising, the Northern Campaign a few years ago, and the disappearance of the Izmirnaia Autonomous Zone twenty years ago. To dismiss it all as mere coincidence would be too much of a coincidence.
It was inevitable for researchers from the Royal Academy, including Lucy Hallway, to pay attention to these points. Furthermore, the report of increased activity in the ruins from archaeologist Felicia Norman undoubtedly indicates that something is beginning to happen.
The kingdom’s upper echelons, taking the situation seriously, mobilized even the 0th Legion for information gathering and investigation. In the midst of this, there’s Jez and Erin’s visit to the Royal Academy.
For Lucy, this was a rare opportunity. She doesn’t believe Jez himself is doing anything suspicious.
Though she’s known Jez for about ten years as a teacher, she’s never seen him as the type to cause trouble. Rather, she had the impression that he often got involved in situations beyond his control.
So, while cautiously probing for cooperation, Lucy has no intention of doing anything that might disadvantage him.
Besides, if the goal was to detain Jez, the country’s upper echelons would have taken a different approach. Therefore, the Tashman Kingdom is definitely not Jez’s enemy, as Jez himself understands.
“So, that’s basically what we’ve grasped so far. What do you think, Jez?”
Since the investigation and deliberation from this point forward had hit a dead end, Lucy’s question was quite vague, and she herself couldn’t help but smile wryly as she asked.
“Well, I don’t know the background of this Southern Great Uprising, but…”
Jez seemed to ponder for a moment, searching for his words. Lucy and Erin quietly watched him. After a brief silence, Jez continued.
“By the way, what do you think monsters are, Miss Lucy?”
He seemed to be starting a somewhat off-topic discussion. While wondering where this was going, Lucy decided to go along with it, thinking Jez wouldn’t bring up unrelated matters in this context.
“As the name suggests, aren’t they animals born with magic essence?”
A straightforward response to a straightforward question. That’s the common sense in this world. However…
“Well, yes. But no one has ever seen where these monsters are born, have they?”
Yes, in this world, monsters are born somewhere in the monster domain, unknown to humans, and then appear out of nowhere to attack human habitats.
The entire ecosystem of monsters is shrouded in mystery, and in this world, monsters are simply accepted as such.
“In the Divina Church, monsters are said to be born where impure magic essence gathers in the monster domain, but no one has actually seen it happen.”
Lucy and Erin nodded quietly as they listened to Jez’s words. While confirming their reactions, Jez continued.
“Also, Miss Lucy, earlier you described monsters as animals that absorb magic essence. But if you think about it calmly, isn’t that strange? All living beings in this world, including humans, horses, and dogs, all have magic essence to some extent.”
Lucy and Erin reconsidered their understanding of monsters and the creatures of this world, which had become too natural to think about seriously.
Once he noticed their discomfort, Jez made sure to confirm it before continuing.
“Now, here’s the main point. In the Wist family, monsters were viewed as manifestations of this world’s will or purification mechanisms.”
Jez spoke about a very important matter so casually. Lucy hadn’t expected such a big revelation, and she sighed, placing a hand on her forehead.
“I see. I’ve understood that it’s becoming a bigger issue than I thought… Is this a well-known story?”
“No, basically, it’s only known within the Wist family and the Izmirnaia Autonomous Zone. Some Divina Church affiliates should know, and I’ve told Gerald-tousan, Felicia-kaasan, and Erin and Victor,” Jez explained.
(Note: I can’t seem to put it into word, but I’m assuming you guys already know those means father and mother in japanese so I’ll leave it at that)
Realizing that this information was known to a very limited number of people, Lucy found herself pondering once again about how to proceed.
“Why such important information, and why now?” Lucy naturally questioned. While observing her, Jez continued to speak calmly.
“I didn’t intend to discuss this much, especially not just because of the Southern Great Uprising. It would have been just a rare occurrence of a large-scale monster emergence,” Jez replied, with a slightly troubled expression.
“But, considering that the ruins are starting to become active, I thought it might be a problem.”
