When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 77
Episode 77
Several days passed. Despite being busy with various administrative tasks, no major events occurred, and time flowed by.
Preparation for the Kingdom’s Parliament continued, draft plans for rewards and recognition were compiled, health management was conducted diligently with the Saint, and occasionally, investigations into Victor’s conceptual armaments were carried out with Lucy and the Academy members.
Unfortunately, there was no progress in the investigation of the conceptual armaments. The abnormality of Victor Alchemis stood out again, resulting in a complete deadlock. The conceptual armaments realized by Victor likely deviated from the existing technical systems, leading to the theory that he might have succeeded in deciphering the relics left by an ancient civilization through some means.
On the other hand, investigations and information gathering on the ruins scattered across the kingdom were progressing, and signs of activation were confirmed in various locations. The “activation of ruins” refers to the mysterious structures within the ruins becoming operational. The principles and functions are unknown due to the complete loss of related documents, but there were occasionally faintly glowing structures within the ruins that seemed to be operational.
These structures, which usually appeared to be ordinary stones or nondescript junk, could not be destroyed and were known to emit a faint glow once every few years to decades. This state was described as the ruins being activated. When the ruins activated, changes in the concentration of magical elements around them were observed, suggesting the existence of some function, though its nature remained unknown.
Furthermore, the activation of the ruins did not lead to a massive outbreak of monsters. Past investigations into the correlation between ruin activation and stampede occurrences found no clear relationship or causality. If such a link had been noticeable, someone would have noticed it long ago.
In any case, due to Jez’s story and the recent Southern Uprising, the front-line base raised its alert level against monsters just in case, but there were no abnormalities at present. No signs of abnormal monster activity were seen from the bases in the North, East, or the rebuilding South.
Amidst this, Jez and the others smoothly completed their preparations for the Royal Order 11 report to the Kingdom’s Parliament, and the day of René’s speech to the Parliament was approaching.
—
“Well, I’m a bit nervous after all,” Jez said with a relaxed expression, not looking nervous at all. Hearing this, René shrugged her shoulders and retorted, “You saying that is not convincing at all. Besides, it’s mostly me talking today, right?”
Since returning to the royal capital, the two had been working together on paperwork almost daily, becoming quite close. In Kohane, due to their respective duties, René and Jez had surprisingly little time to spend together, and during the Southern Uprising, they were too busy with the war.
Thanks to the strong impressions of each event, the memories remained vivid, but now, spending calm time together wasn’t bad at all, René thought to herself. The more she got to know Jez Norman, the more she wanted to learn about him. The more she thought about it, the more she found him a mysterious guy and found herself increasingly intrigued by him.
A little behind them, Lilly, with her arms crossed and a proud look, nodded approvingly, while Maria watched her with a puzzled expression. Meanwhile, Erin was not present, as she was having a final meeting with the chairman.
Today, René, Erin, Lilly, Maria, and Jez came to the parliament as a group. On the day of the report to the Kingdom’s Parliament, Jez and the others were already in the building, waiting in the waiting room for the parliament to begin.
(Note: I’m guessing Erin has a meeting with the chairman of the parliament. So she’s still in the parliament building too. I’ve double-checked the names so either that or the writer’s drunk)
The Kingdom’s Parliament is a quasi-independent body with a capacity of 300 members, existing as an advisory institution to the king. The Tashman Kingdom is an absolute monarchy, with all power fundamentally belonging to the king. The legion commanders, various ministries, and ministers are all directly under the king’s command.
Despite being a military state as a front-line nation, the Tashman Kingdom is also known as a major trading nation and an immigrant nation as a pioneering state. Traditionally, military matters required swift decision-making, and almost all discretion lay with the Tashman royal family and the legion commanders on the ground. However, trade, immigration policy, and diplomacy required a platform to confirm the opinions of domestic factions, leading to the establishment of the Kingdom’s Parliament.
Before the establishment of the Kingdom’s Parliament, the Tashman royal family controlled all aspects of state affairs, including trade, immigration policy, and diplomacy. However, during large-scale conflicts, the kingdom’s functions would largely halt if the royals went to the front lines. This issue led the then king of Tashman to establish the Kingdom’s Parliament as an advisory body, marking its historical beginning.
The 300 members of the assembly can be broadly divided into three main factions. Firstly, there are the nobility, comprising individuals from long-standing noble families or those with well-known names. This group of 100 members is mainly composed of hereditary members.
Secondly, there are those involved in economic activities, primarily merchants. Among them, there are both commoners and nobles, making up another 100 members. The seats in this faction also have a hereditary aspect, resembling more of an honorary position passed down through generations to representatives of major trading companies rather than through blood ties.
Lastly, there are also 100 seats, but they are limited to one term. These seats are occupied by individuals, regardless of nobility or commoner status, who have achieved significant feats or have been recognized for their expertise. This group comprises many retired military personnel and scholars, including former soldiers who served in the legion or scholars from the Academy.
Thus, the members of the Kingdom’s Parliament are not elected through what we typically refer to as elections. Instead, they serve as an advisory body to the absolute monarchy. However, as the Kingdom’s Parliament functioned effectively for longer than initially anticipated, it gradually acquired audit functions over the legion commanders, heads of various ministries, or even certain members of the royal family.
Consequently, in the Tashman Kingdom, there existed three main powers under the king: the legion, the Kingdom’s Parliament, and various ministries, resembling a system of checks and balances akin to a tripartite separation of powers.
Despite being referred to as an advisory body, the current chairman of the Kingdom’s Parliament, Ivan Dragomir, wielded considerable influence that cannot be ignored. He was the former commander of the 7th Legion, known as “Iron Will” Ivan Dragomir. He was the commander of the 7th Legion before René Tashman’s appointment, and he had been in service with the 7th Legion long before René’s arrival, having honed the soldiers of the 7th Legion into elite troops.
In essence, individuals like Jamil Al-Faz couldn’t hold a candle to Ivan. During the recent Southern Uprising, while many units suffered significant losses, Al-Faz’s unit miraculously incurred zero casualties. Even though it was a small unit of a hundred soldiers, such an astounding survival rate and achievements were unparalleled.
When asked about the reason for this, Jamil reportedly looked into the distance and uttered, “It was better than the punishment given to me by former Commander Dragomir,” or something along those lines.
The Tashman Kingdom. While the next generation of young talents is thriving at the Royal Academy, there are also fierce generals waiting in the reserves as well. The name of the foremost nation of humanity is not just for show.
