When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 79
Episode 79
A few days before the appearance of both a man claiming to be a ‘demon’ and a dragon at the Kingdom’s Parliament, and simultaneous explosions occurring throughout the capital.
After finishing her duties at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Cynthia Clark attended a meeting at a certain facility in the capital.
The facility was of a common architectural style, not particularly conspicuous, like any other building in the capital. During the day, it functioned as a small trading company and had the appearance of a general store beloved by the locals.
Cynthia was in a certain room on the third floor of that building. Along with her, there were about ten other people in the room, all dressed in various outfits.
Some wore attire that immediately marked them as officials, like Cynthia, while others wore military uniforms. Some were day laborers, others were merchants, some wore the attire of the capital’s patrols, some wore provocative attire indicating involvement in the entertainment industry, and some were dressed as cooks.
Despite the diverse attire, they had all gathered in one place. While their outfits varied greatly, they had one thing in common – masks. Except for Cynthia, everyone wore masks embedded with recognition inhibiting spells. They were members of the 0th Legion, Cynthia Unit, proud assets of the Tashman Kingdom in the dark.
Normally, they would blend into the city and continue their activities to support the kingdom from behind the scenes, so opportunities for them to gather face-to-face like this were rare.
Simply gathering in one place was enough to stir rumors. Even with the masks inhibiting recognition and utmost caution in disguising their meeting place, gathering in this manner was ill-advised.
Nevertheless, the principal members of the Cynthia Unit had been gathered for a reason. Those summoned by Cynthia knew this and patiently awaited her words in silence.
Finally, as a person who seemed to be an academy staff member entered the room, Cynthia began to speak slowly.
“First of all, thank you all for gathering. This seems to be a serious matter, so I called you all here directly.”
Cynthia’s sudden statement. When she, who usually carried out her duties calmly, indicated that something serious had happened, it was indeed troubling.
Everyone straightened up. Were they under surveillance again, or had Cynthia’s senior civil servant done something? Without moving, they waited for her next words.
Confirming the increased vigilance of the Cynthia Unit members, Cynthia, though expressionless, nodded slightly with a hint of satisfaction.
“We’ve detected a large-scale terrorist plot against the capital.”
According to Cynthia, it seemed that some fool was planning a large-scale terrorist act in the Tashman Kingdom’s capital, Nevorista.
The background leading to this information was somewhat complicated, but the beginning was simple. It traced back to Cynthia’s visit to the Jez residence, extending to the home party involving René and Lily.
A mysterious group attacked Cynthia on her way back from the home party. One of them was kept alive for interrogation, and it was revealed that a certain organization was involved.
While it was known that this organization was probably connected to a certain country, it was unlikely that the country would directly provoke the Tashman Kingdom to this extent.
Feeling uneasy about this, Cynthia further investigated and uncovered a certain emerging religious group.
Claiming to “restore the world to its rightful state,” this group made incomprehensible assertions and was a small force with very few believers.
However, despite this, they had an unusually large flow of money, disproportionate to their size and influence. This clearly indicated that funds were flowing in from somewhere. Most likely, this emerging religious group was also some kind of dummy organization.
As the Cynthia Unit continued to investigate using various means, they finally grasped part of the enemy’s tail.
It seemed that a specific nation was not the mastermind; rather, some organization was behind it. Despite the short investigation period, the Cynthia Unit managed to mark the tail, raising Cynthia’s vigilance while scrutinizing the results of the investigation.
The revelation of the terrorist plot was the result of this. As the enemy’s full extent was still unknown, Cynthia decided to share the information with the principal members of her unit first.
Reports to the regimental commanders and the commander of the 0th Legion were scheduled to follow. Moreover, in this 0th Legion, face-to-face meetings between superiors and subordinates were not allowed unless they were in direct superior-subordinate relationships.
For example, in Cynthia’s case, she had never met the commander of the 0th Legion herself, nor did she even know who held that position. As a hundred-man captain, she would only directly meet with her immediate superior, the regiment commander, and those in leadership roles within her hundred-man unit.
However, she had knowledge of the backgrounds and profiles of all the members of her hundred-man unit. Superiors needed to know about their subordinates for mission execution and deployment considerations.
In any case, Cynthia succeeded in moving each member of her unit to connect the dots and grasp the terrorist plot against the capital.
Now all that remained was to crush this plan. However, there were several challenges.
One was the unclear execution date, and the other was that, judging from the enemy’s scale, it would be difficult for the Cynthia Unit alone to handle it.
At this point, Cynthia devised a plan. If they couldn’t predict the enemy’s moves, they should lead them.
For some reason, the enemy organization seemed to be interested in Jez Norman.
Come to think of it, a few days later, an extraordinary session of the parliament was conveniently scheduled. This extraordinary session. It was extremely convenient as important figures would be gathered.
Moreover, the location was the parliament building. It would be perfect bait. With those figures gathered, there was no way they could lose.
…Perhaps it was time for that muscle-brained senior to be useful for once, Cynthia thought with a dark smile, but that’s another story.
Thus, even before the mysterious enemy force began, they were already dancing in the palm of Cynthia and the 0th Legion.
Furthermore, Cynthia was a bit seriously anxious as.there were more enemy forces than she had expected.
