When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 82
Episode 82
The voice of the king echoed throughout the capital city of Nevorista in the Kingdom of Tashman, issuing the command, “Annihilate them.” Upon hearing this, the military forces across the capital began to move in unison.
Thanks to the efforts of the intelligence agencies like the 0th Corps, the approximate positions of the enemies had been identified. While the Kingdom of Tashman had allocated a certain amount of forces to various locations, they had not anticipated the appearance of over a dozen Orc Kings. Lady Cynthia, among others, inwardly broke into a cold sweat, thinking, “This is bad…,” as they pondered how to deal with the Orc Kings.
At that very moment, the activation of the city-class conceptual weapon, the Golden City S.P.Q.R., occurred. This overwhelmingly unreasonable weapon immobilized the Orc Kings and seemingly applied some debuff effects as well. The pressure emanating from the Orc Kings visibly weakened.
Seeing this, the quickest to act among the forces in the capital were:
“Al-Faz’s unit, fire!!!!”
The simultaneous barrage from Al-Faz’s unit, positioned near the garrison, signaled the start of the battle in the capital. In the previous southern chaos, Al-Faz’s unit, led by Jamil Al-Faz, had encountered Orc Kings more than anyone else except Jez Norman. They had achieved remarkable results through reconnaissance, vanguard actions, and rapid cavalry maneuvers, making them undeniably a heroic unit.
However, Jamil, particularly because he had been close to Jez, had a keen awareness of their attack’s inadequacy. Naturally, as a unit composed of 100 light cavalry, Al-Faz’s unit’s main weapons were light and fast, like bows and arrows. Although they had a limited number of tactical magic arrows to compensate, their attacks were ineffective against the Orc Kings or any significantly large targets.
Previously, Jamil had considered this acceptable. However, during the southern chaos, not only Orc Kings but even an Orc Emperor appeared, deviating significantly from the usual monster emergence patterns, rendering Al-Faz’s unit’s attacks ineffective in the later stages.
Al-Faz’s unit had fulfilled their role sufficiently, which might have been acceptable. But Jamil Al-Faz, a man who prided himself on arriving at the battlefield quicker than anyone, was not satisfied with the status quo.
What had he and the members of Al-Faz’s unit been doing since arriving in Nevorista? The answer was:
“Fatima!! Use that thing now!!”
At Jamil’s command, the members of Al-Faz’s unit started launching tactical magic arrows at the Orc Kings restrained by binding spells, causing a massive explosion centered around the Orc Kings. But they knew that such attacks wouldn’t be enough to defeat the Orc Kings. As about 90 members of Al-Faz’s unit kept changing positions and shooting arrows,
“Captain!!! We’re here!!”
Al-Faz’s unit’s vice-captain Fatima Kazumi, the fourth seat Teo Marchant, and the new recruit May Carter rushed to Jamil. They brought sizable container cases, and together with Jamil, they opened and quickly assembled them.
What emerged was a large ballista, far exceeding human size. At first glance, it appeared to be just a big ballista, but this was the result of Jamil consulting Jez about improving their offensive capabilities after arriving in the capital. Jez had introduced him to the Ministry of Military Affairs’ Equipment Bureau.
Rail Oswald, who had been part of the Ministry before joining the 7th Corps, also used his connections to facilitate consultations with the Equipment Bureau. For the past few weeks, Jamil had devoted himself to testing prototype weapons with the Equipment Bureau staff and Al-Faz’s unit members, often ignoring Jez’s frequent invitations.
The Equipment Bureau was thrilled to have a frontline elite unit collaborating fully in weapon development, creating a flurry of activity that made the place look like a battlefield. Even some academy staff got involved, adding to the chaos.
In the Kingdom of Tashman, while magic, swordsmanship, and individual talent were the primary focus for military operations, substantial funding was also invested in weapon development.
One of the most prominent examples is the self-destruct mechanism of the frontline city, but a wide range of activities are supported, including daily food supplies, portable tents, the development of new materials, and the mass production of magic arrows.
Research and development were also conducted on artificial magic swords, modeled after the magic swords like the Flame Sovereign used by Rene and the Overlay used by Serena.
Among these, a particular team from the Ministry of Military Affairs’ Equipment Bureau was dedicated to developing high-firepower, portable weapons. This weapon, due to its nature, required wind magic, making it highly compatible with the Al-Faz’s unit. Wind magic, when highly compressed, is known to transform into lightning magic.
Jamil and the members of the Equipment Bureau, through various trials and errors, acquired a new power. The four members, Jamil, Fatima, Teo, and May, poured their magic into a large ballista.
The Orc King, who had been completely restrained until recently, was now seen struggling to break free. The attacks from the Al-Faz’s unit continued but lacked a decisive blow. Observing this, Jamil began chanting.
“Spirits of the wind, gather and blow upon this land, bestow the wrath of the heavens upon my hands. Bind the breath of the azure sky and weave the circle of power.”
A special magic circle appeared on the large ballista. Wind magic continued to compress, and Fatima, following Jamil, added her chant.
“Rise, become a vortex, the sea of compressed magic. Tear the clouds and awaken the moment it turns into lightning.”
The large arrow started rotating, crackling with electricity. Teo then took over from Fatima, adding his chant.
“Lightning that runs through the earth, a beam that scorches even the heavens, bend to my will.”
The large ballista, supported by the four, was now surrounded by raging winds and flickering lights. Finally, May, who boasted the greatest magical power in the Al-Faz’s unit, added her chant.
“Invincible flash, absolute power with no equal, now, be unleashed.”
The combined chant of the four was directed at the Orc King. Confirming their target, the four infused the large ballista with the final surge of their magic.
“”””Breath of the atmosphere, winds from the four corners! Spirit of the lightning descending from the heavens, answer our call and lend us your power. Light of destruction, absolute arrow, pierce our enemy and reduce everything to ashes! Special Chant: Quadruple Domain Magic, Thunder Spirit Piercing Arrow – Stormforge Railgun!!!””””
With the chant, the lightning arrow was released, piercing the Orc King.
