When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 108
Episode 108
The story rewinds to a few minutes earlier.
After Jez, René, and the others undergoing training in the Shinjuku Dungeon were suddenly struck by a dungeon quake.
As the trainees began to evacuate, Jez and René quickly noticed that the concentration of mana was rising at a dramatic pace. “This isn’t good. We need to subtly hurry the evacuation,” they thought, making their decision. Just then— An indescribable sound, like the world cracking, echoed through the space. From what seemed like nothing, a horde of monsters began pouring out.
They didn’t know the cause or mechanism behind it, but it was clear that a stampede had occurred. Jez hesitated for a moment as he watched this unfold. If they left the situation as it was, it would undoubtedly turn into a disaster. However, if Jez or René stepped in, they would stand out like never before. They wanted to operate as inconspicuously as possible in this world moving forward, considering their actions carefully. The incident with the Undead Dragon had already drawn significant attention.
It had been over a week since that event, and yet the internet was still buzzing with rumors about the mysterious explorers who had slain the Undead Dragon. The Dungeon Bureau, a government organization, was even tracking their whereabouts.
Considering this situation, taking action against the stampede in the Shinjuku Dungeon would undoubtedly make them stand out more than ever. In fact, if standing out was all they had to worry about, it would be a relief…
Though only a few dozen trainees and a handful of instructors were present, word spreads quickly. Even if they asked everyone to keep their abilities a secret, it would only be a matter of time before the truth got out. If they were to act, they would have to accept the risks. What should they do? Jez pondered. Seeing Jez hesitate, René flashed a ferocious smile and lightly tapped Jez on the back.
“Why hesitate? The people need our strength. If that’s the case, all we have to do is protect them. Whether this is our Tashman Kingdom or not, what we do remains the same. We protect the people, the kingdom, and the world. Isn’t that right?”
Royal Virtue.
When Jez heard René’s words, the first thing that came to his mind was the term “royal virtue.”
Countless monsters threatened to pour out from the rift in the space, and the trainees fell into a panicked frenzy. René Tashman stood naturally on the battlefield, exuding an overwhelming presence.
Watching her, Jez reaffirmed his thoughts: “This person really is a proper member of the royal family.”
Recently, he had almost forgotten, after seeing her lounging around on the family sofa, munching on chips while watching videos on her phone. But yes, this was the kind of person she truly was.
With renewed determination, Jez knelt before René. He felt that it had been a while since he last did so. Specifically, since Episode 30. A lot had happened since then, he reflected.
“I have already sworn my loyalty to you. I will always act in faith to your trust, striving to uphold justice and integrity. Princess, your orders.”
The 7th Legion Commander and Third Princess, René Tashman, nodded in satisfaction at Jez’s formal demeanor. René admired Jez’s ability to swiftly switch between his relaxed and serious states, and his decisiveness.
Reflecting on her fortunate comrades—Jez, as well as the members of the Seventh Legion, including Erin and Lily—René declared.
“Jez Norman. We will annihilate the enemy. Hold nothing back. Let no one die.”
“As you command.”
Once the Legion Commander had decided to act, there was no more room for hesitation. All that was left was to crush the enemies before them with everything they had.
However, at the moment, both René and Jez were only equipped with beginner gear—a simple one-handed sword from the convenience store at the Shinjuku Dungeon License Center, and comfortable clothes they had purchased from a sporting goods store. It was certainly unsettling to fight with such equipment.
After standing up from his kneeling position before René, Jez took out his smartphone. His serious expression shifted to a somewhat uncomfortable one as he launched a certain app.
‘Welcome to the Pepo! App, Pepo!!’
As soon as he opened the app, the phone blared with annoyingly upbeat music and a grating voice. Onscreen, an obnoxiously cutesy doll moved about animatedly.
Yes, it was Vicpo. The app was left behind by Victor just before he disappeared from this world. Apparently, even Victor found it difficult to manifest physically in this world repeatedly, so he created an avatar in virtual space to maintain communication. Jez didn’t fully understand the details. According to Victor, the deep parts of the internet are actually connected to multi-dimensional realms.
Jez found that idea terrifying. He decided to let it go since he knew that asking for more details would only lead to trouble from experience.
But back to the Vicpo app—René curiously peeked at Jez’s phone.
‘Oh! Pepo! Now that I think about it, this is the first time I’m properly talking with Princess René, Pepo! I’m Victor Alchemis, Pepo. Jez’s best friend, Pepo. Don’t worry about returning to your world, leave that to me, Pepo.’
“Uh, um… I’ll count on you?”
René, slightly bewildered by Victor’s usual free-spirited nature, looked at Jez for help. It was such a rare sight.
Jez sighed, thinking how Victor was always Victor, and moved the conversation forward.
“Do you understand the situation? We need a full set of gear to fight at full strength.”
‘Ah, don’t worry, Pepo. We detected the dimensional tremor here as well, Pepo. It’s probably another effect of the Dragon Fragment, Pepo. Your gear is ready too, Pepo. The Princess’ Flame Sovereign Sword and Conceptual Armaments have been quantumized and stored inside this phone, Pepo. They can be materialized at any time, Pepo!’
Jez and René exchanged nods after hearing Victor’s words.
“OK, then we’re counting on you.”
‘Pepo! Here we go, Pepo! Simultaneous Conceptual Armament deployment, Pepo!!’
As Victor spoke, light overflowed from the phone. With the shout of “Transformation!!,” their powers began to materialize in this world.
“”Let our wisdom, adaptability, and the power of the Flame Sovereign manifest here and now!””
The light engulfed Jez and René, who had been wearing casual tracksuits.
“”Transform knowledge into strength, turn words into swords, and shatter all falsehoods!””
The light shifted in shape, dressing Jez in a navy suit and René in a gray pantsuit.
“”To those who fight alongside us, let our wills resonate, and show the power to forge the future!””
Simultaneously, their weapons materialized in their hands—Jez’s great spear and René’s Flame Sovereign Sword.
“”We are the protectors of justice! Simultaneous Conceptual Armament deployment!!””
And then.
‘Mana release, authorized!!! Pepo!!!’
Victor, in the virtual space, pressed a button labeled “Authorization”. An overwhelming surge of mana was unleashed from their Conceptual Armaments, sending magical winds howling through the dungeon.
The two warriors, having checked their gear and weapons, charged straight toward the approaching monsters.
