When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 119
Episode 119
“Good evening, listeners. Welcome to the Dungeon Research Institute Official Public Relations Channel.”
Two days after the Shinjuku Dungeon Incident, the livestream began as announced beforehand. Naturally, the broadcast drew attention not only from Japan but from all over the world.
<It’s here!>
<It really happened, lol.>
<The number of viewers is insane.>
<Of course it is.>
<Hurry up!>
The stream promised a special appearance from the two explorers who played a key role in the Shinjuku Dungeon Incident—namely, the princess and the blond salaryman. This announcement had the comment section buzzing with even more excitement than usual.
Scanning through the flood of comments, Misaki from the Dungeon Research Institute smoothly led the show as the host.
“Alright, as you can see, the comment section is moving at a crazy pace. But without further ado, let’s introduce our special guests for today: the Wist couple!”
<Good evening.>
<Good evening.>
<Good evening.>
<They’re really here, lol.>
<Such a beautiful couple!>
As Jez and René appeared on the broadcast screen, the comment section exploded with even more excitement. René seemed to be in a better mood than usual. Jez, noticing that she was enjoying herself, gave a wry smile while thinking, “I hope this ends without any problems…”
“And now, let me formally introduce them. These are the two who defeated the dragon species during both the Okutama and Shinjuku Dungeon Incidents.”
As Misaki introduced Jez and René, the viewers listened with keen interest.
“By the way, everything we’re going to talk about from here on out is officially endorsed by the Dungeon Bureau and the Japanese government. We may have caused you some anxiety by delaying the release of information. But rest assured, we now have a solid grasp of the situation.”
Though he looked slightly apologetic, Misaki delivered his statement with confidence. In truth, the fact that two unidentified explorers had defeated not only two dragon species but also a mythical-class Yamata no Orochi was a serious national security issue.
Some conservative media outlets had criticized the Dungeon Bureau and the government’s handling of the situation, creating a precarious situation in various ways.
“Before we dive into a full interview with the Wist couple, we’d like to hear a few words from the Prime Minister, Takajo Shuichi. Mr. Takajo, if you please.”
<They brought in the big shot, lol.>
<This is legit, lol.>
<Well, to be fair, things were pretty intense this time.>
<Also, Misaki’s being surprisingly professional, lol.>
<For real, lol.>
The studio at the Ichigaya Garrison, where Misaki, Jez, and René were broadcasting, was linked online with the Prime Minister’s office. Prime Minister Takajo then spent around three minutes explaining the series of incidents and the government’s response.
Although some comments grew heated during this part, the explanation proceeded without issue. Takajo’s briefing was relatively brief, and he mentioned that formal Q&A sessions with the press would take place at the Prime Minister’s Office starting the next day. This helped calm down the uneasy public atmosphere to some extent.
As René listened to Takajo’s explanation, she tilted her head in confusion and muttered, “It’s strange to think that he’s not the king.”
Japan’s parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy system had been explained to her by Jez beforehand, but she still didn’t quite grasp the concept.
Coming from the absolute monarchy of the Tashman Kingdom, a war-driven nation where swift decision-making and top-down command were essential to victory, René could understand the structure in theory. However, she struggled to accept how such a system could function effectively in practice.
“Can a country truly respond quickly to frontline changes while stuck in meetings? Or can politicians with limited terms really commit to long-term national strategy without being swayed by fleeting incentives?”
These questions still didn’t sit well with René, who wore a somewhat conflicted expression. Of course, she understood the importance of checks and balances on power, but it was hard for her to reconcile the idea. After all, even on the Azelion continent where the Tashman Kingdom existed, there were a few countries—religious states, federations, or parliamentary systems in the rear—that operated under similar principles. With a nod, she resigned herself to the idea that this was just the way things worked in peaceful nations.
The key takeaway for her was that Japan must be a peaceful country.
As a royal and a Legion Commander of the Tashman Kingdom, a frontline human nation, René had one focus: to wield her sword in defense of her country, humanity, and her comrades. That was enough for her.
While these thoughts occupied René’s mind, Takajo finished his explanation. The livestream switched back to the temporary studio at the Ichigaya garrison.
“Well, now that we’ve covered the more serious topics, let’s move on. Let’s have the two of you introduce yourselves. We’ll start with René-san.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m René Wist. I’m pleased to have the opportunity to meet you all in this way. I also want to express my gratitude to Lord Takajo and Lord Misaki for arranging this.”
René spoke confidently, exuding the air of someone accustomed to authority.
<Whoa! A proper princess move!!>
<She’s the cool kind of princess!>
<Princess~!>
<First time being called ‘you all’ but I like it, lol.>
<She really gives off princess vibes, lol.>
The comment section erupted. The image of a blonde beauty speaking with such regal confidence was already enough to stir excitement. But the fact that Jez always called her “Princess” added a playful element that amplified the reaction. René, slightly perplexed by why everyone was so excited, decided to let it go. She felt that at least the atmosphere wasn’t bad.
Amidst this buzz, it was Jez’s turn.
“Nice to meet you all. I’m Jez Wist. Apologies for all the commotion. We’re working with the Dungeon Bureau and the Japanese government, so please rest assured.”
He smiled and delivered a statement that sounded as if it came straight from a civil servant, oozing a certain air of suspicion.
<I don’t dislike that kind of resolve.>
<I don’t dislike that kind of resolve.>
<I don’t dislike that kind of resolve.>
<I don’t dislike that kind of resolve.>
<It’s alright now. I’ll protect you all.>
<Alchemist in a cocoon: Could you protect me too? Seriously, I need help.>
Jez had already become a running joke among certain fans, fully turned into a meme in some circles.
