When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 93
Episode 93
The day after Princess René and Jez disappeared from the capital, Nevorista. Erin and the others gathered once again for a strategy meeting at the royal castle. The previous night’s meeting had been cut short by royal decree after tensions flared between Erin and Lilly. King Ramses had insisted everyone return home and get some sleep.
Although King Ramses was undoubtedly deeply concerned about his missing daughter, René, he couldn’t afford to overburden those who remained. With anxiety hanging over everyone, the king maintained a firm and commanding presence while guiding them through the situation.
As a side note, after the meeting was adjourned, King Ramses personally instructed the 0th Legion to take a proper rest as well. Despite the legion’s pivotal role in preventing the terrorist attack, some members might have felt responsible for failing to stop the teleportation magic circle. Given that they would continue working tirelessly if left alone, the king himself had to order them to rest.
Regardless, after a night of sleep and recovery, the group reconvened the next day in the temporary strategy room at the castle. Reflecting calmly, it was incredible that the capital had suffered so few casualties despite the sudden appearance of a dragon and over a dozen Orc Kings. The enemy’s strength was such that the capital’s complete destruction wouldn’t have been surprising.
Moreover, Princess René and Jez had been caught in what appeared to be a teleportation circle; they hadn’t died. Considering the pair’s exceptional combat abilities, it was unlikely they would perish easily unless something truly catastrophic happened.
Observers on the ground had even seen Jez and René holding hands just before they were teleported, suggesting that the two were likely sent to the same location. While there were concerns about René’s ability to survive alone, with Jez by her side, those worries diminished somewhat.
Jez Norman, was undoubtedly resourceful though difficult to read. The group, including King Ramses, believed that such an extreme situation would be where his true strengths would shine.
Having rested and calmed down overnight, both Lilly and Erin were now able to think more clearly. The other participants in the strategy meeting also agreed that Jez and René would likely manage for a while. The discussion turned to concrete search strategies.
The biggest issue they faced was determining how far the dragon and over a dozen Orc Kings could have teleported them. The Academy’s scholars were working tirelessly to analyze the large-scale teleportation circle that had appeared in the capital and to estimate possible destinations based on the magic power of the creatures used as sacrifices.
However, rough estimates from the previous day pointed out a worst-case scenario: Princess René and Jez might no longer be on the Azelion Continent. A broader inquiry was planned, involving other human nations on the continent with the help of the Church.
If they had been teleported beyond the known human territories into uncharted regions, a rescue party would need to be formed. And if they had been sent off the Azelion Continent entirely, the search would become even more challenging. Currently, the continent had little trade with others. And although some coastal nations maintained minimal contact with foreign lands, the vast oceans had become domains for monsters, making travel by sea rare.
Given these complexities, the priority was to expedite the analysis of the teleportation circle.
In addition, thanks to a proposal by René’s personal knight, Erin Saylor, the search for the alchemist Victor Alchemis was officially approved. Many witnesses had seen the pen that Erin had recovered suddenly appear to protect Jez from the dragon. This led to the hypothesis that the pen, or the conceptual weapon it represented, might hold the key to locating Jez.
Thus, under royal command, the search for Victor Alchemis was initiated to verify this theory.
The strategy meeting, which began shortly after noon, progressed with decisions being made rapidly. As the meeting went on, a voice suddenly called out.
“Apologies for the delay.”
Entering the room were Saint Lucretia Alma and Archbishop Edelmar Solennis. They had been tending to the injured and overseeing relief efforts for the citizens of the capital, which had delayed their participation in the meeting.
Despite minimizing the damage in the large-scale terrorist attack, numerous buildings had been destroyed. There were still some casualties, both dead and injured. The clergy of the Divina Church, led by the Saint and the Archbishop, had been working closely with the Kingdom’s military to assist with the recovery efforts.
Upon hearing the details of the discussion thus far, the Saint spoke without hesitation.
“I will join the search as well.”
Thus, the Saint declared her intention to join the search team for Victor. According to her, the angels had been unusually restless since the previous day. It’s reminiscent of when Victor had last appeared in the capital. She speculated that by observing the movements of the angels, they might also be able to trace Victor’s whereabouts.
Additionally, Miriam Stonewell from the Academy was confirmed to join the search team. Miriam Stonewell was a prodigy who had been a classmate of Victor, Jez, and Erin during their time at the Royal Academy. After graduating, she had joined the Academy as a colleague of Victor’s. Even after Victor left the Academy to open a shop in a rural area, she continued to maintain contact with him and had been steadily advancing in her career at the Academy.
However, ever since their student days, Miriam had frequently found herself cleaning up after Victor’s antics and tracking him down when he ran off. She joked that their relationship had become an unbreakable, annoying bond that she wanted to resolve somehow. Incidentally, Miriam and Erin were very close friends.
Setting that aside, the search team for Victor—aimed at finding René and Jez—was gradually being formed. The core members of this temporary team included Erin, Lilly, Miriam, as well as Lucretia and Edelmar. In addition to these main members, parts of the Holy Knight Order and the Al-Faz Unit were assigned to join as escorts, preparing for the possibility that the search would lead them into uncharted territory or ancient ruins.
Thus, the operation to search for the eccentric alchemist began, with a total force of approximately 200 people.
