When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 99
Episode 99
‘Anyway, there’s not much time, so I’ll relay some information.’
“…Hey, you forgot the weird ending to your sentences.”
‘Anyway, there’s not much time, so I’ll relay some information, Pepo!!’
“…That ending, it doesn’t really have any meaningful purpose, right?”
As a rain of support fire rained down on the Undead Dragon, Jez stood slightly off to the side. He was gripping his activated Conceptual Armament, Pen is Mightier than the Sword – Jabberwock—now a large spear. All the while, he was engaged in a conversation with a goofy-looking deformed fairy(?) mascot character. Just that one sentence alone was information overload. If taken out of context, no one would understand what was going on.
Setting aside the absurdity of the scene before him, Jez listened with slight exasperation to what Victor—now calling himself Vikpo—had to say.
‘You remember there were two pens I gave you, right? Well, by coincidence, they turned out to be the key that connects the worlds. So, as long as the Conceptual Armament is active, I can manifest here in this world… Pepo!!’
According to Vikpo’s explanation, it was sheer luck that Jez had carelessly dropped the Conceptual Armament, which allowed them to establish communication. The Conceptual Armament Vikpo had given Jez could apparently be monitored. By using its wavelengths, they could track him across worlds. Jez had suspected something like that but was still mentally annoyed at the idea of being stalked. However, the fact that they were now in contact made it clear that this bit of luck was to his advantage.
Setting that aside, Vikpo continued to relay a stream of information that seemed important to Jez. Among the most crucial details was:
“So, does that mean I can return?”
‘Yeah, leave it to me! Pepo!! But as I mentioned earlier, you’ll need to gather all the Dragon Fragments first, Pepo.’
Vikpo explained that the teleportation magic circle they used was based on the dragon Jez had defeated over the capital of the Kingdom of Tashman, Nevorista. If they could replicate the same conditions here and use a reverse-casting technique, there was a high chance they could return to their original world. However, the dragon at the core of the teleportation magic had transformed into an energy crystal. Upon entering Earth, the crystal had shattered into several fragments.
The Undead Dragon currently rampaging before Jez was born from one of those fragments. In order to return, Jez would have to collect all the Dragon Fragments, including the one in front of him.
Jez couldn’t help but think, “Isn’t this like Dragon Ball?”—and he wasn’t wrong.
At least he now knew what he had to do: continue defeating dragons in this world. With a concrete goal in mind, Jez felt a sense of calm return. The anxiety he hadn’t fully recognized until now began to dissipate, and he gradually settled back into his usual rhythm.
As he calmed down, Vikpo offered a few more pieces of advice. Princess René, who had yet to regain consciousness, likely hadn’t woken because her body hadn’t yet acclimated to the new world. Normally, when someone crosses dimensions, their body and brain can’t immediately adjust to the new environment. But if Jez could acquire a Dragon Fragment and have René hold it, her synchronization with this world would go much smoother.
Relieved by this explanation, Jez felt a weight lift from his shoulders. The two major worries that had plagued him since being thrown into this world—”Can I get back?” and “Will René be alright?”—were now both resolved.
‘Still, Jez, it’s impressive how naturally you’re accepting that you’re in another world, Pepo. Not to mention, you’re functioning perfectly fine here and even seem to understand the local language, Pepo.’
Jez’s face betrayed him at that comment, his expression slipping into one of realization. He recognized his double blunder as he became aware of his own reaction.
‘Hmm, Pepo. I always thought you were a strange one. Given that reaction, it seems you knew about other worlds, didn’t you? …Is this something related to the Wist family? Well, I’ll ask for the details when you return to our world. Pepo!’
Vikpo observed Jez with interest but chose not to press further, mindful of the battlefield they were in and the limited time available.
However, even Vikpo hadn’t anticipated that Jez was actually reincarnated. Jez silently vowed to keep that fact hidden. After all, knowing this mad alchemist, if he ever learned about reincarnation, he might seriously try to meet a goddess or even the King of Hell. That was something Jez absolutely wanted to avoid.
That maniacal alchemist, Victor Alchemis, lives by the motto ‘If you can observe it, you can replicate it.’ That’s his true essence.
The rapid exchange of information between Jez and Vikpo took only two or three minutes. By this time, the intensity of the support fire had finally begun to subside. Ammunition smoke filled the air, obstructing their vision. But through the haze, they could still feel the overwhelming presence of the dragon. It was still alive.
‘Alright, time’s almost up, Pepo. But before I go, here’s a parting gift, Pepo. Take it, Pepo.’
What he handed to Jez was—
“…What’s this?”
‘Haha! Don’t pretend you don’t know! Well, that’s a smartphone. I even set up official identities for you and Princess René. Now, make good use of it… Pepo!!’
The fairy mascot then announced with a smug look on his face.
‘The biggest mission for a mascot character is to give the protagonist a transformation item, Pepo! Now, warrior from another world, form a contract with me and gather the Dragon Fragments, Pepo!’
Jez, overwhelmed by how mixed-up everything was, gave up on trying to make sense of it. He powered on the smartphone and raised it toward the sky.
“O ancient wisdom, transcend time and space, transform my form into a vessel for this world. O garb of legend, feel the winds of the present age and bestow upon me the light of innovation.”
(Note:
)
As Jez began his chant, light began to emanate from the smartphone raised to the heavens.
“O power of the raiment that transcends the boundaries of time and worlds, now manifest here as the embodiment of wisdom! Clad me in the hidden truth, and grant me omnipotence!”
The light enveloped the ceremonial robe Jez wore.
“Cast off the heavy armor of knowledge, and inscribe upon my body the new garb of wisdom. By my name, I command thee, O knowledge of the abyss, initiate the rite of transformation!”
The light surrounded Jez’s ceremonial robe, shifting its shape.
“Cloak me in the winds of innovation, weave for me the fabric of revolution, and grant me strength! O symbol of wisdom in this world, now descend and renew my form! Conceptual Armament, When in Rome, Do as the Romans – Economic Animal—Activate!”
And standing there now was not a man in ceremonial robes. It was Jez, fully dressed as the embodiment of a bureaucrat, a salaryman, the symbol of the civil servant in Earth’s world.
Yes, he was in a suit.
‘This is the Locally Adapted Bureaucrat Mk-II, Pepo.’
Before them stood Jez, dressed sharply in a navy three-piece suit, his blond hair slicked back with wax.
Little did Jez know that this entire sequence was being broadcast live—not just across Japan, but worldwide.
