When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 137
Episode 137
After the entrance ceremony at the Royal Academy, Jez planned to head straight back to the dorms before anyone could bother him. However, he ended up getting lost and found himself entangled with some mysterious little girls.
“Come on, Lilly! Let’s get him!!”
Jez had simply been concerned for the children he assumed were lost and asked if they were okay. But in response, he found himself being attacked by these cheeky brats.
What’s going on with the moral education in the royal capital? Jez thought in disbelief as he skillfully dodged and deflected the kids’ attacks. Naturally, Jez wasn’t the kind of person who would be caught off guard by such young children.
As for René and Lilly, why were they so aggressive? There were a few reasons behind this.
First, René and Lilly had snuck out without informing King Ramses or the second prince, Levius. On top of that, they were lost, making them slightly panicked. They were worried that they might get in trouble with the adults. Moreover, due to their special positions, they had been taught from a young age never to follow strangers who approached them. In fact, they were told to treat strangers as potential threats and prioritize self-defense.
These factors combined in the worst way, leading René and Lilly to attack this suspicious man who had suddenly approached them in the quiet hallway of the VIP area. From their perspective, it was an act of self-defense.
For Jez, who was acting purely out of goodwill, this was an unexpected disaster.
And to make matters worse, these kids were surprisingly strong. Though their bodies were still undeveloped and their techniques were far from polished, their movements showed clear evidence of training. Most impressive of all was their natural talent.
Lilly, the girl taking the role of the front-liner, skillfully attracted Jez’s attention. She delivered solid strikes while preparing for a follow-up attack. René, meanwhile, capitalized on the openings Lilly created to launch her own attacks.
At this young age, they had already reached this level of proficiency. They were probably as strong as some of the new recruits in the army.
But, unfortunately for them, their opponent was far from ordinary.
Jez Norman—having lost his homeland in the Wist Territory to a monster stampede when he was young, he had managed to survive on his own and had spent the last eight years training under the strongest man in humanity, Gerald Norman. Despite being only 16, Jez was already skilled enough that Gerald Norman had considered formally adopting him as his heir. Jez had declined the offer, but the fact remained that his combat prowess had already reached significant heights for his age. He had faced far harsher situations than this.
There was no way these two children stood a chance against Jez. For five minutes straight, the girls continued to attack, yet Jez avoided every strike. Exhausted and dripping with sweat, René and Lilly glared at Jez while struggling to catch their breath.
“…Lilly, even a random student like him is this strong!?”
“I don’t know, but he’s ridiculously strong! Maybe the people at the castle were holding back on us more than we thought?”
The two girls stared at the suspicious man in student attire who had suddenly appeared, but the situation remained unchanged. They started to feel that continuing any longer might lead to more serious consequences…
“Lilly, let’s use magic. We can’t defeat this guy with just physical strength.”
With that declaration, René drew a ceremonial dagger from her waist and began to channel magic into it. Meanwhile, Lilly positioned herself to defend René, continuing her attacks on Jez to buy time. And then…
“Haaa!!!!”
With magic infused into her dagger and body-enhancing spells activated, René launched her most powerful close-combat combo, charging at Jez.
Watching her approach, Jez sighed and shifted into a stance with his right side forward.
“Norman Style Combat Technique: Level 1 – Batsai.”
In a fluid motion, Jez intercepted René’s swift attack, scooping up her dagger and disarming her. He then swept her legs out from under her, breaking her balance before locking her arm in a joint hold. He completely subdued her.
The movements were so smooth and seamless that René and Lilly couldn’t immediately comprehend what had just happened. As the two girls struggled to process what had occurred, just when they were about to speak—
“Alright, let’s call it a day, shall we?”
The one who stepped in to break up the fight was none other than the second prince and student council president, Levius Tashman. He approached them with a wry smile on his face.
Seeing Levius, Jez immediately released René from his hold and knelt in respect.
“Oh, you don’t need to do that here at the academy. Bowing and such would just waste time. But I must say, Norman-kun, you really handled that well. René and Lilly—are they alright?”
Jez had noticed it earlier—The second prince Levius and his attendants had been watching the playful sparring between Jez and the two girls from a slight distance, looking quite intrigued.
“My apologies, Norman-kun. These two have been hitting a bit of a plateau lately, so I thought it might be a good opportunity for them to break through, which is why I stood by and observed.”
As the prince spoke with such a calm demeanor, Jez couldn’t help but feel a bit exasperated. The rumors were true—this second prince was not someone to be taken lightly. He seemed to have a knack for reading people.
For a moment, Jez braced himself. He wondered if the prince was about to say something troublesome. But seeing Jez’s reaction, Levius chuckled softly and said,Â
“No need to be so on guard. Come on, René, Lilly. Father and the others are looking for you. Let’s head back. And Norman-kun, I’ll see you around.”
With a friendly wave, Levius turned to leave. Although René and Lilly looked like they had something they wanted to say, they quietly followed after him.
Later on, the defeat René and Lilly experienced that day would motivate them to double down on their training, sharpening their talents even further. While the two vaguely remembered the event, they never asked for Jez’s name. The subsequent scolding they received from King Ramses and the queen caused them to completely forget about him.
As for Jez, being accosted by the two little girls on his first day of what would become a whirlwind three years at the academy was a fleeting memory. It was soon buried in the chaos of student life.
…It was a huge oversight on Lilly’s part to forget that she, too, had her own well-established “I became stronger thanks to you” moment with René.
