When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 180
Episode 180
Initially, Jez and his team had not planned to take the long route from the eastern front city of Novalis to the northern core city of Foresval before heading to the capital, Nevorista. However, this detour turned out to be a great decision.
The main reason was that it allowed them to get accustomed to handling the strategic-class conceptual armament/pseudo-divine artifact, the Mandjet/Mesektet. Jez learned that despite having created the ship, Victor had never actually operated it before. He had literally flown it on the first try. Victor’s high spirits and excited exclamations like “It really flew!?” were because of this.
Jez, noting that such important information should have been shared earlier, was met with Victor’s casual, “Oh? Didn’t I mention that?” Jez, now re-evaluating what kind of person Victor was, reflected on their decade-long acquaintance and wondered if the alchemist’s tendency for unpredictability had only increased with age.
Nonetheless, the Mandjet/Mesektet, despite its 300-meter size, could be operated by at least one person and came equipped with automatic navigation features. However, operating the ship alone during takeoff, landing, or emergencies was challenging, so Jez and Lucretia also practiced maneuvering it under Victor’s guidance.
The time gained from this detour allowed them to finalize the framework for the 11th Legion’s formation. Given that they were heading to the Divina Papal State, all members of Lucretia and Edelmar’s church, including 100 holy knights led by Alexia Gray and Vice Commander Katrina Rivera, would temporarily be integrated into the 11th Legion. The Holy Knights of the Fourth Saintess Order, tasked with protecting the saint, had a high ratio of women. It reflected the composition of Lucretia’s guard.
Edelmar’s separate unit, consisting of seasoned clerics guarding the capital’s cathedral, would also come under the 11th Legion’s command upon their arrival in the capital. This addition would solidify a force of 200.
Additionally, the stable Al-Faz unit was to be transferred to the 11th Legion. Although Erin and René would have preferred to stay with Jez, leaving the 7th Legion vacant was problematic. The southern front, including the 7th Legion, was undergoing significant reorganization and could not provide additional troops. Recognizing the situation, René approached Jamil about transferring to the 11th Legion, which Jamir agreed to, officially integrating Al-Faz unit into the 11th Legion.
However, an issue arose regarding the “horse” aspect. Jamil Al-Faz’s unit excelled in horse handling, but it was impractical to bring horses aboard the ship. Approximately 200 horses that Jamil and Erin had ridden to the ancient ruins were initially loaded onto the Mandjet/Mesektet, but their excitement when the ship took off led to their removal. They were entrusted to Raja of the 5th Legion. Although the Al-Faz unit reluctantly accepted being separated from their beloved horses, there was no alternative.
The Mandjet/Mesektet’s incredible speed for long-distance travel was clear, but it posed challenges for more agile maneuvers needed upon arrival in the Divina Papal State. While Jez, Jamir, and Fatima deliberated over securing horses locally, Victor was now showing off a small motorcycle equipped with a magical engine and suggested,
“I have this, would you like to use it?”
In the Tashman Kingdom, bicycles existed, and there were also two-wheeled vehicles with magical engines. However, despite the advancements, these bikes were not considered a suitable replacement for horses due to their performance and fuel efficiency issues.
In the evening, after landing on the ground from the Mandjet/Mesektet, the Al-Faz unit unloaded and tested the motorcycle. They were amazed by the remarkable performance of Victor’s custom-made bike. However, it appears that the energy supply system is based on a type of battery, so the bike needs to be periodically recharged from the Mandjet/Mesektet. Nevertheless, this resolved the issue of needing a maneuverable transport option.
With the ability to conduct high-altitude drops directly into enemy strongholds and also move quickly on the ground, this unit exceeded all existing military concepts on the Azelion continent. Thus, the hundred-man unit led by Jamil would later become known across the continent as the “Al-Faz Iron Cavalry.”
