When I was working as a civil servant, I was found out to be a muscle-brained knight by the princess knight and got sent to the front lines - Episode 205
Episode 205
A civil servant single-handedly tried to negotiate a ceasefire with an army of 10,000 by convincing them with his fists. Two hundred warriors from the north unleashed their full power and rampaged across the battlefield, while one hundred multi-skilled riders on magical bikes zipped freely through the chaos. A furious Saintess led her squad of one hundred through the heart of the enemy’s ranks, and one hundred self-proclaimed clergymen swung their iron rods, engaging in fervent discussions. Above them all, a colossal alabaster airship floated in the sky.
The ten thousand-strong Holy Knights of Archbishop Lucius Agrippa were clearly being pushed back by the mere 501 soldiers of the opposing force.
While Lucius’ Holy Knights were indeed numerous, they were a hastily assembled mix of various factions that had sided with the Calidius faction. It was a makeshift army, full of irregularities. Many of them were inexperienced, with this battle being their first.
However, Lucius’ personal guard consisted of elite knights. It was thought that if these core soldiers led the charge, they could effectively utilize their numbers. But this strategy was beginning to fall apart.
The 11th Legion quickly realized the vast difference in skill levels among their enemies and began systematically neutralizing the less trained soldiers. The 5,000 elite knights directly commanded by Lucius were formidable warriors, likely on par with the legionnaires of the Tashman Kingdom. . But the remaining 5,000 were inexperienced soldiers, likely gathered just to bolster their ranks.
The 501 soldiers led by Jez might have been able to subdue the inexperienced half of the army without too much trouble. However, the presence of the 5,000 elite knights drastically changed the situation. While the Holy Levia Knights were caught off guard by airborne attacks and their formation had crumbled, Lucius’sduel with Archbishop Edelmar Solennis gradually stabilized the battlefield.
As the elite soldiers re-formed their ranks and began organized resistance, the rest of the Holy Knights also started to regain their composure.
By this point, the 11th Legion had incapacitated over 2,000 Holy Knights, but the overwhelming numbers were starting to slow their advance. Just when it seemed that their progress was stalling, a new force entered the fray.
“Don’t forget about us!”
The Holy Lucius Knights, led by Pope Seraphina XIII, finally began to move. While some of her soldiers had been momentarily stunned by the sudden appearance of the Tashman Kingdom’s reinforcements, Seraphina had been waiting for the right moment.
Had she launched an attack at the same time as Jez’s aerial assault, it would have led to total chaos and disorder. Moreover, the Holy Lucius Knights had never worked with the reinforcements from the Tashman Kingdom, and an immediate battle could have resulted in friendly fire due to the lack of coordination.
So, Seraphina had been carefully watching the battlefield, waiting for the perfect moment while keeping her army in a state of readiness. Her sharp eyes tracked every movement on the battlefield. Her knights, witnessing their leader’s intense focus, renewed their sense of loyalty.
Inwardly, however, Seraphina was exasperated by Jez and the Tashman Kingdom’s usual reckless actions. She couldn’t help but smirk wryly at their audacity, yet was also deeply grateful for the elite forces they had sent to support her.
Her internal emotions were a whirlwind. But outwardly, she kept a composed and serious expression. At the end of the day, people never really change, and Seraphina was no different. She was, after all, Seraphina.
Finally, she sensed the shift in the battlefield. The initial surprise attack by the Tashman Kingdom had subsided, and the situation was about to reach a stalemate. That was the moment she had been waiting for.
“All forces, charge!!”
Not missing a single opportunity, Seraphina raised her holy sword, still sealed in its scabbard, and commanded the full assault.
Just as Lucius and his forces were about to regain control of the battle, they were hit by a sudden onslaught—this time from a new force of 10,000 soldiers.
Ordinarily, Lucius’ 10,000 soldiers would have been evenly matched with Seraphina’s 10,000. Even in terms of the quality of their forces, there was little difference. For weeks, both armies had stood off against each other near the ancient city of Paradis, waiting for the slightest opening.
Now, however, Pope Seraphina XIII herself led the charge on horseback, brandishing her sword at the forefront. Her forces moved in perfect coordination with the Tashman Kingdom’s troops. The 11th Legion, which had previously been fighting in disarray, swiftly reformed into a cohesive unit, their ranks solidifying.
Although Lucius was still occupied with the duel, he realized the worsening situation and withdrew from the fight with Edelmar to prioritize commanding his army.
“…Edelmar!! We’ll finish this fight another time!!”
Lucius, after swinging his halberd with all his might for one final attack, distanced himself from Edelmar and used the opening to retreat. Edelmar, without giving chase, also prioritized regrouping with the 11th Legion rather than pursuing Lucius.
The rest of the 11th Legion also avoided getting entangled in the chaos. They began to move towards Jez, cutting through enemies as they gradually gathered.
At the frontline where the two armies clashed:
“Hey, Jez!! It’s been a while!”
“Yeah, Seraphina, glad to see you’re doing well too.”
The civil servant, who had been single-handedly outmaneuvering the enemy army, finally reunited with the Pope. Clearing out the nearby enemies, the two took a brief moment to catch their breath and celebrated their reunion with a high-five.
