When My Contract with the Misanthropic Duke Ended, I Filed For Divorce, But My Husband's Obsession and Doting Became Unbearable - Chapter 30
“That concludes my report.”
“Hmm… this is getting dangerous.”
Lately, I haven’t had the time to meet Sharon in person, but I’ve made sure to have her condition reported to me regularly. It’s partly because I’m worried she might be hiding her struggles—but in addition to that, I’ve also secretly placed someone to monitor the Duke.
I had just finished hearing the latest report, and honestly, the Duke seems like a completely different person from before. Though to be fair, this change only happens when it involves Sharon. His work hasn’t suffered, so I could just ignore it… but his feelings for her seem to be spiraling out of control.
If Sharon’s heart isn’t directed toward the Duke, I’d almost want to help her escape—his obsession has gone that far. I originally planned to stage a fake matchmaking meeting, but now it feels far too dangerous to try.
He’s even openly jealous of his own butler, who merely stays by her side. If Sharon’s supposed “match” were to appear, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Duke actually killed him. Honestly, if not for his lingering guilt toward Sharon, he might have already taken things by force.
Should I just reveal that the divorce never actually happened? Maybe that would calm him down… But that “divorce” was meant as part of his punishment. And if I told him the truth, he might immediately try to run off with Sharon. Ever since I heard that he planned to rebuild—not just remodel—the ancestral main estate of the Bandage Dukedom, I’ve had a bad feeling about this. If his obsession starts leading to harm toward the people around Sharon, this could get truly dangerous.
Even though I’m royalty, the Bandage Dukedom holds enough power that I can’t afford to overlook it. If Duke Jean, the current head, were to cause a major scandal, it could shake the entire noble society.
That means the only one who could stop him… would be Sharon. But honestly, that’s far too heavy a burden for her. She deserves happiness, not this. I never thought that man—the Duke—would ever become so fixated on another person.
I know why he came to hate people in the first place, which is why I believed that only someone as pure as Sharon could melt that frozen heart of his. But perhaps she melted it too well. Now that he’s aware of his own feelings, it seems he can’t help but see Sharon as the only beautiful thing in his world—and that’s what’s making him lose control.
And as someone of similar rank, I can’t even say I don’t understand it.
“When he finally realized his feelings for Sharon, did he lose his mind…? Maybe he’d been unconsciously restraining himself all this time.”
Thinking about how close he is to breaking apart from his obsession, I can’t help but wonder how he managed not to notice those feelings for three whole years.
Maybe… that’s what this is all about. Still, even knowing that, I can’t forgive him for overlooking everything that happened under his roof during those three years.
For Sharon’s sake—and for the sake of the royal family—I’m afraid we’ll be struggling for a while to figure out what to do with the current Duke.
