When My Contract with the Misanthropic Duke Ended, I Filed For Divorce, But My Husband's Obsession and Doting Became Unbearable - Chapter 38
This might sound sudden, but… have you ever felt an urge to punch someone out of nowhere?
Let me be clear — I’m not saying violence is good. But please, at least hear me out about why I ended up feeling that way.
It all started about half an hour ago. The Duke came to my study for some work-related matter.
Since he works in the royal castle, it’s not unusual for him to visit me — but today, he was different.
Not just his mood, even his expression was strange.
He’d stare blankly into space, then suddenly start touching one cheek while grinning to himself.
It made me want to ask, “Who are you and what have you done with the Duke?” And to make it worse, despite acting like that, he still managed to do his work perfectly — which only made it more annoying.
Eventually, he started humming and dancing right in front of me, clearly over the moon about something.
I figured he was just excited about something and decided to ignore it so I could finish my own work.
But really — who in their right mind starts dancing in front of someone who’s busy working? At first, I was just too stunned to say anything, but then…
“Your Highness, may I talk about Sharon while we work?”
He suddenly said that, and since it was about Sharon, I foolishly told him it was fine.
That was my mistake.
And so, here I am — nearly an hour later — listening to him gush endlessly about Sharon. He’s my friend, sure, but I never knew someone else’s love talk could be this exhausting.
“So, did something happen? You’re suddenly in such a good mood.”
I was already tired to the bone, but I still went and asked that stupid question.
“Well… Sharon gave me a kiss on the cheek as a reward for working hard.”
“…What?”
That’s it? Sure, for Sharon, that was a brave and bold move — but still.
“I honestly thought it was a bit of a pushy promise, so I’d already given up on it… But he really did it! I keep remembering it again and again… I’ve never realized before how hard it is to keep a straight face.”
“A… straight face?”
Wait. He thought he was keeping a straight face? With that goofy grin the whole time?
Since when was the Duke this easy to read — or this easy to please?
Well, then again, this is the same man who literally fainted from a nosebleed just by seeing Sharon’s underwear, so… maybe I shouldn’t be surprised.
Anyway — the point is, he’s still smiling like an idiot just remembering it. Would it really be so wrong if I punched him once just to snap him out of it?
I’ve been buried in work lately and completely worn out —and here he is, floating on air just from a single kiss on the cheek. Honestly, it makes my bl00d boil.
If I don’t fix him now, he’ll probably act like this every single time Sharon’s name comes up.
And me? I’m still stuck in one-sided love!
