- Chapter 31 You smell so good, I... can't resist...
Yu Jinzhao hummed a cheerful tune as she drove home, her heart brimming with joy. She even waved enthusiastically at the security guard as she passed the gate.
As she unlocked the door, a sudden thought struck her: Wouldn’t life be perfect if a little cat or dog greeted them at the door right now?
She stole a glance at Pei Daowan’s expression, wondering how Pei Daowan would react to a pet. Would she treat them the way she occasionally treated Yu Jinzhao herself? No, a pet would only distract them. They’re both too busy right now to care for one properly.
Yu Jinzhao hadn’t had any alcohol tonight, but Pei Daowan had drunk quite a bit. She was already drowsy on the way home, and now that they were back in familiar surroundings, her steps became noticeably unsteady, startling Yu Jinzhao into quickly supporting her.
Yu Jinzhao felt a pang of guilt. She should have shielded Pei Daowan from the drinks, but Pei Daowan had subtly and overtly protected her throughout the evening.
“Are you feeling unwell? Do you think you might throw up?”
Pei Daowan’s pupils struggled to focus as she stared at Yu Jinzhao for a long moment before slowly shaking her head, her expression somewhat dazed, a stark contrast to her usual cool and capable demeanor.
Seeing Pei Daowan’s obvious discomfort, Yu Jinzhao felt even more heartache. She immediately scooped her up in a half-embrace, intending to carry her to the sofa to rest.
Yu Jinzhao had casually removed Pei Daowan’s coat as they entered. Now, Pei Daowan wore only a thin black dress, through which Yu Jinzhao could feel her unusually feverish temperature.
Yu Jinzhao’s breath hitched. She was careful to avoid touching any sensitive areas, and, fearing she might make Pei Daowan uncomfortable, she clenched her palms into tight fists.
With each rise and fall of Pei Daowan’s breathing, Yu Jinzhao could clearly feel the rhythmic movement of her lower abdomen. Between each contraction and release, Yu Jinzhao’s face flushed crimson.
In the past, when friends had gotten drunk, Yu Jinzhao, being stronger than most women, had helped carry them a few times. But back then, her mind had been completely focused on the task, devoid of any other thoughts or feelings.
Yu Jinzhao took several deep breaths, but the nape of her neck began to burn and tingle again. She had clearly overestimated her willpower.
Though the sofa was only a few steps away, each step felt agonizingly difficult. By the time she finally managed to set Pei Daowan down, Yu Jinzhao was drenched in sweat from the effort.
Yu Jinzhao collapsed to the floor in a half-kneeling position, momentarily questioning her life choices. When did my stamina become this bad? she wondered. I shouldn’t be this exhausted after carrying someone just a few steps, especially since Pei Daowan weighs next to nothing.
Standing at around 1.7 meters tall, Pei Daowan probably weighed only about 50 kilograms. Yu Jinzhao could easily carry her, or even a man for that matter.
Ignoring the throbbing ache and burning sensation that grew stronger with each passing moment, Yu Jinzhao took several deep breaths, feeling slightly dizzy.
Without even lowering her head, she could sense Pei Daowan’s faint, cool fragrance growing stronger. This time, Yu Jinzhao finally recognized the scent.
It was cedarwood and sandalwood.
This was a scent she absolutely adored—a cool, woody fragrance. In this state, Yu Jinzhao couldn’t resist her greed and inhaled deeply several times.
So fragrant! Truly so fragrant!
She touched Pei Daowan’s forehead. It was slightly warm, but probably not a fever; just the flush from the alcohol.
Forcing herself to stand on her aching limbs, Yu Jinzhao swayed as she rose. She needed to get a blanket to cover Pei Daowan first. For some reason, she felt utterly weak right now. What if she dropped Pei Daowan while carrying her?
I should make some Hangover Soup. Otherwise, I’ll feel terrible when I wake up tomorrow morning. With this thought, Yu Jinzhao forced herself upstairs to retrieve a blanket.
The throbbing pain in the back of her neck intensified, making Yu Jinzhao’s mind feel hazy. Instinctively, she knew something was wrong, but her brain was too muddled to think clearly.
After covering Pei Daowan with the blanket, Yu Jinzhao’s legs buckled, and she collapsed to her knees. Her lips collided forcefully with Pei Daowan’s forehead.
“Mmm~”
Pei Daowan whimpered, feeling the impact of the external force.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to, I…” Yu Jinzhao stammered, her words slurring. She tried to lift her head, but her head felt heavy, and she couldn’t resist the cold, fragrant scent emanating from Pei Daowan’s embrace. It was as if she were glued there, unable to move.
“Pei… Dao Wan…”
Yu Jinzhao’s tongue twisted, her mind blank. She could only act on instinct.
“You smell so good… I… can’t resist…”
Pei Daowan was also feeling deeply uncomfortable. The air, the surroundings, and especially Yu Jinzhao’s body were saturated with the intense scent of mint and citrus.
She instantly realized this was the smell of pheromones—Yu Jinzhao’s pheromones. Could the swelling of her gland earlier have been a sign of secondary differentiation?
A primal fear surged through her. The physiological disparity between Alphas and Omegas was too vast. If Yu Jinzhao were to act on her impulses now, Pei Daowan would be utterly powerless to resist or refuse.
She tried to push Yu Jinzhao away, but her arms felt as heavy as lead, her movements resembling a reluctant invitation rather than a firm rejection.
Sensing the faint resistance, Yu Jinzhao seemed to regain a sliver of clarity. She seized Pei Daowan’s hands, methodically tucking them under the blanket to keep them warm. Her words were slurred, but Pei Daowan understood their meaning.
“Hands… can’t… stay out… you’ll catch… a cold… I’ll go… make some Hangover Soup… drink it… and you’ll be fine…”
“Yu Jinzhao!”
Sensing Pei Daowan calling her, Yu Jinzhao obediently perked up her ears, showing none of the destructive or possessive urges typical of Alphas in heat. Instead, she seemed like an innocent victim of some unknown affliction.
“Don’t move around so much. I don’t want Hangover Soup. Just help me sit up.”
Yu Jinzhao’s eyelashes fluttered as her pupils darted around, as if considering whether to obey Pei Daowan’s request.
“No! When you drink… you have to drink… soup. Otherwise, tomorrow morning… your head will hurt… so bad… and you’ll feel awful…”
Relieved to see Yu Jinzhao still retained some basic rationality, Pei Daowan let out a sigh of relief. A subtle thought crept into her mind: even if Yu Jinzhao entered her heat cycle, she wouldn’t harm her.
With this realization, Pei Daowan couldn’t resist reaching out. She cupped Yu Jinzhao’s cheek with one hand while gently brushing aside the stray hairs at the nape of her neck with the other.
As expected, the area around Yu Jinzhao’s gland was already red and swollen. No wonder she was uncomfortable and throbbing with pain—her heat cycle had begun.
Pei Daowan cradled Yu Jinzhao’s head in both hands, soothing her gently to ease her discomfort. Her voice was soft and coaxing: “Open your mouth for me, okay?”
Yu Jinzhao nodded obediently and immediately opened her mouth with an “Ah,” showing Pei Daowan her teeth.
Under the lamplight, Pei Daowan clearly saw that Yu Jinzhao’s canines had become noticeably sharper. This was a sign of an Alpha’s heat cycle, with pheromones concentrated within the teeth. The discomfort would only ease significantly if these pheromones were injected into an Omega’s gland; otherwise, the discomfort would persist.
“Are you in a lot of pain right now?”
Yu Jinzhao nodded, tears welling in her eyes. She was indeed in immense pain, an indescribable sensation. The urge to pounce on Pei Daowan and pin her down was overwhelming.
Startled by her own thoughts, Yu Jinzhao covered her mouth in fear. “Sister… it hurts so much… Please… stay away from me… I really want to… bite you…”
With that, she struggled to sit up, desperate to distance herself from Pei Daowan. The pain was unbearable, her body surging with violence and destruction. For some inexplicable reason, she desperately needed to release this pent-up energy.
Ultimately, Pei Daowan’s concern for Yu Jinzhao prevailed. She firmly pressed Yu Jinzhao down. “Don’t move.”
Yu Jinzhao, however, refused to obey. Feeling wronged and miserable, she had only tried to protect Pei Daowan by pushing her away. Yet here she was, being ordered to stay still.
The alcohol she’d drunk that evening, combined with the influence of Yu Jinzhao’s pheromones, left Pei Daowan feeling unwell. Her glands began to burn with heat.
She couldn’t let Yu Jinzhao continue releasing pheromones, or she’d be drawn into her own heat cycle, making the situation impossible to control.
Forcing herself to stand despite her aching body, Pei Daowan’s voice turned sharp. “Don’t move again. If you do, I’ll hit you.”
Yu Jinzhao hadn’t heard such words in years. Apart from the occasional spanking from her parents as a child for misbehaving, no one had ever struck her.
Seeing Yu Jinzhao’s stunned expression, as if she hadn’t taken her words seriously, Pei Daowan reached out and lightly slapped Yu Jinzhao’s cheek.
Slap!
The force wasn’t hard, nor did it hurt, but the night was so quiet that the sound echoed sharply between them.
Yu Jinzhao’s face flushed visibly crimson, already flushed, now burning red. Immediately afterward, an overwhelming wave of pheromones surged forth.
The scent of mint mingled with citrus instantly filled the room, thickening the air.
Yu Jinzhao lowered her head, her body trembling slightly, as if she were desperately trying to suppress something.
Pei Daowan belatedly realized she had made a terrible mistake. She shouldn’t have slapped Yu Jinzhao. Now, Yu Jinzhao, who had been barely holding back, had completely lost control.
As Yu Jinzhao’s pheromones flooded the room, Pei Daowan’s heat cycle was triggered prematurely. She could feel her gland throbbing wildly.
Her head pounded in sync with the throbbing, her pheromones unexpectedly compatible with Yu Jinzhao’s, making her heat cycle easily provoked.
“Sister~”
Yu Jinzhao’s face was flushed crimson, her eyes bloodshot. Her usual gentle composure had vanished, replaced by an aggressive intensity and overwhelming pressure.
Having suppressed her heat cycles with medication for years, Pei Daowan was now overwhelmed by the sudden surge of hormones. Her physical needs threatened to overwhelm her reason, her body screaming for a marking.
Yu Jinzhao, however, was clueless. She had never learned to control her pheromones, let alone suppress them, and simply continued to release them unchecked.
Within minutes, the air was saturated with potent pheromones, eroding both women’s rationality. An explosion felt imminent.
In a daze, Yu Jinzhao thought she heard a kitten mewing, its voice clingy and high-pitched. Then, her cheek was gripped firmly, with considerable force.
Pei Daowan panted, “Yu Jinzhao! Now I say you do it, and you stop when I say stop…”
Perhaps it was the prolonged ascetic life she had endured, or perhaps she believed Yu Jinzhao wouldn’t truly harm her. Or maybe she simply couldn’t bear the way Yu Jinzhao was looking at her.
Whatever the reason, Pei Daowan’s rationality crumbled in that moment. Yu Jinzhao was beautiful, wealthy, and her character was decent enough. Even if she treated Pei Daowan as a mere suppressant patch for her heat cycle, it wouldn’t be the worst outcome.
It was unclear if Yu Jinzhao even registered her words. She merely kept her head bowed, panting heavily, her fingers gripping Pei Daowan’s skirt so tightly they nearly tore through the fabric.
With a mix of resignation and compromise, Pei Daowan, unwilling to wake up to a trashed living room the next morning, used her last shred of reason to remind Yu Jinzhao, “Carry me upstairs. Let’s go back to the bedroom.”
This command clearly registered. Yu Jinzhao took a deep, shuddering breath, then held it as she scooped Pei Daowan into her arms and surged up the stairs.
