- Chapter 38 - At 4 AM, I Saw the Begonia...
At four in the morning, I saw Yu Jinzhao…
The sound of running water inside the bathroom had softened, but it hadn’t stopped completely. This time, the voice was much clearer: “Older Sister, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.”
A flicker of anger flashed in Pei Daowan’s eyes. She kicked the door forcefully. “Yu Jinzhao, you have one minute to open this door, or I’m calling a locksmith.”
No response came from behind the door. Pei Daowan fell silent, standing with her hands on her hips, silently counting down the seconds as she waited for Yu Jinzhao.
After about thirty seconds, the sound of water stopped, and Yu Jinzhao timidly opened the door.
She was drenched, a chill radiating from her body. Strands of wet hair clung to her face, making her look utterly pitiful. Even with the fiercest anger, Pei Daowan couldn’t bring herself to scold Yu Jinzhao in this state.
“Why did you lock yourself in the bathroom?”
Yu Jinzhao’s expression turned aggrieved. “The back of my neck feels hot and swollen, and my teeth are so itchy…”
Pei Daowan gently stood on tiptoe, tilting Yu Jinzhao’s head down slightly as she brushed aside the wet strands of hair.
As expected, Yu Jinzhao’s gland was swollen and red, occasionally releasing bursts of mint-citrus pheromones. Clearly, she had no control over her pheromones, letting them rampage through her body unchecked. No wonder she was so uncomfortable.
Pei Daowan sighed softly and pulled Yu Jinzhao to the sofa. She used a blanket to quickly wipe off the cold water, preventing it from dripping further.
Pressing Yu Jinzhao down onto the sofa, Pei Daowan knelt before her, deliberately exposing her vulnerable nape.
“Mark me now. Then take a hot shower, change into dry clothes, and get some sleep. I’ll take you to the doctor at dawn.”
“Waaah~, Older Sister~”
Yu Jinzhao didn’t bite her. Instead, she kept pressing her wet head into Pei Daowan’s chest. Pei Daowan cradled Yu Jinzhao’s head, feeling the chill against her chest as she gently tightened her grip on the back of Yu Jinzhao’s neck.
“There, there. It’s alright. Just be a good girl.”
With that, Pei Daowan released Yu Jinzhao, exposing her porcelain-white nape—a gesture of complete surrender, allowing Yu Jinzhao to do as she pleased.
The gland’s redness hadn’t subsided, and the surrounding area was still covered in a chaotic pattern of bite marks, varying in depth and covering a wide area. The sight made Yu Jinzhao’s heart leap.
Waaah! Pei Daowan didn’t kill her after all! She’d really gone too far. Overwhelmed with guilt, Yu Jinzhao’s voice lacked confidence. “Can I really bite?”
“Stop dragging your feet and talking nonsense. One more word and you won’t get to bite at all.”
The reprimand immediately silenced Yu Jinzhao. She repeatedly rubbed her canine teeth against Pei Daowan’s gland, the friction creating an itchy sensation. Pei Daowan’s breathing quickened, her lower abdomen tightening.
Yu Jinzhao, you incorrigible tease! Pei Daowan thought. She always loves to torment me like this. Does she think I’m the only one suffering?
Yu Jinzhao was indeed suffering, far more than Pei Daowan. Her canine teeth seemed to sense the gland’s proximity, and the pheromones in her mouth threatened to erupt. If she hadn’t been biting down hard on her tongue, she would have lost control on the spot.
Pei Daowan was like a sweet cake, constantly tempting Yu Jinzhao. She wanted to devour it but couldn’t bring herself to. She was torn between savoring the sight a little longer and devouring it right now.
In the end, willpower faltered. The moment Yu Jinzhao’s fangs pierced Pei Daowan’s gland, Yu Jinzhao’s mind went blank. She couldn’t describe the sensation—it was like a dam that had held back years of pent-up water suddenly bursting open, unleashing a ten-thousand-foot waterfall. She felt weightless, completely lost in the moment.
Pei Daowan fared no better. Her taut abdomen trembled violently before snapping into a rigid line, arching upward with desperate force in a futile attempt to alleviate the overwhelming pressure.
Remembering Pei Daowan’s weak lower back, Yu Jinzhao feared she wouldn’t be able to endure much longer. She frantically grabbed everything within reach—sofa cushions, blankets, even her discarded coat—and stuffed them under Pei Daowan’s abdomen for support.
“Mmm~”
Pei Daowan, her vision blurred with tears, half-knelt and leaned forward, her body sprawled across the chaotic pile of soft materials. Her waist felt alien, convulsing uncontrollably.
“Older Sister~ Relax, relax. It’s okay~”
Pei Daowan couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Easy for you to say, she thought. You’re not an Omega. How could you possibly understand this absolute sense of being overwhelmed? If you were an Alpha, I’d make you experience this kind of stimulation yourself.
Yu Jinzhao was already being much more restrained than the previous night, fearing Pei Daowan couldn’t handle it. She gradually eased her grip, keeping one arm around her to support half her weight.
Pei Daowan gasped for air several times before her body suddenly went limp, nearly collapsing into a puddle of water. Half-sprawled, she feared suffocating, so Yu Jinzhao quickly flipped her over.
“Hah…”
Her breathing remained heavy, making Yu Jinzhao’s throat tighten again. She dared not look closely at Pei Daowan’s usually cold, expressionless face, now flushed with vivid color.
Because Yu Jinzhao was suppressing her own expression, Pei Daowan saw only a stern, emotionless mask.
Hah! What a convincing act! Anyone would think she was the only one drowning in desire.
Irritated, Pei Daowan refused to let Yu Jinzhao off easily.
“Rub my lower back.”
Yu Jinzhao felt like a blissfully contented bull. She would have run laps around the riverbank if asked, let alone rub Pei Daowan’s back.
Yu Jinzhao naturally worked tirelessly like a little bee. She wouldn’t stop until Pei Daowan told her to, showing no signs of fatigue. Pei Daowan, watching her, was left speechless. What a blockhead!
My taste in women is terrible, Pei Daowan thought. I fell for this wooden woman. I have to teach her everything. She acts all innocent on the surface, but in bed, she’s like she hasn’t tasted meat in eight hundred years. Afterward, she reverts to her righteous gentleman act.
Unbelievable!
Furious and exasperated, Pei Daowan pinched Yu Jinzhao’s soft waist.
“Hiss!”
Yu Jinzhao, who had been gently massaging Pei Daowan’s waist, yelped in pain. The sudden, forceful pinch made her wince, and she looked at Pei Daowan with a hurt expression.
Pei Daowan showed no remorse. Maintaining her aloof, ascetic demeanor, she blinked not once as she smoothly lied, “I called your name several times, but you didn’t respond. I had no choice but to pinch you.”
“Oh, is that so?” Yu Jinzhao replied obediently, completely trusting her. After all, she had been lost in thought earlier, trying to avoid thinking about Pei Daowan. The moment she thought of her, she felt her body burning up, and she had to force herself to think of trivial things.
Pei Daowan’s hands continued to move, patiently massaging Yu Jinzhao’s lower back. Pei Daowan couldn’t help but feel a wave of exasperation. How could she be so oblivious?
“Stop massaging me. Go take a shower.”
She hadn’t forgotten that Yu Jinzhao was still wet. The sudden shift from cold to hot, even for an Alpha, could easily lead to a cold.
“What about you?”
“Don’t worry about me. Just go take a shower. And don’t use cold water.”
Yu Jinzhao obediently complied. Soon, the only sound in the silent hall was the faint rush of water. Pei Daowan exhaled deeply and walked alone to the massive floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the living room, lighting a cigarette.
Her mind was in turmoil. Events had gradually slipped beyond her control. When had it started? The moment she relented last night.
For some reason, when she saw Yu Jinzhao’s wet, pleading gaze, her heart ached. That look—vulnerable yet defiant, with a hint of stubbornness in her eyes—had instantly captivated Pei Daowan.
She simply couldn’t refuse Yu Jinzhao in that state. She had a premonition that if she helped Yu Jinzhao then, Yu Jinzhao would remember it forever.
It was impossible to say whether her actions were driven more by calculation or genuine emotion. Pei Daowan rarely found herself so conflicted. Through the massive window, she could see the night view of the riverbank.
This property was located right in the city center, a tranquil oasis amidst the bustling metropolis. Its prime location offered a breathtaking view of the neon-lit riverside.
Pei Daowan’s cigarette burned down quickly, but her thoughts remained in turmoil. Though she had already made her decision, her heart still wrestled with conflict.
She couldn’t help but wish Yu Jinzhao were a bad person. It would have eased her conscience, knowing that what she had to do would inevitably hurt her.
Slowly exhaling a puff of stale air, Pei Daowan extinguished the cigarette and refrained from lighting another. She activated the ventilation system to clear the air, then curled up by the floor-to-ceiling window, hugging her knees and staring blankly ahead.
Yu Jinzhao emerged unnoticed until she draped a blanket over Pei Daowan’s shoulders, jolting her back to reality.
Having just showered, Yu Jinzhao’s hair was still damp, but her citrusy scent filled the air, bringing Pei Daowan an inexplicable sense of calm.
Without asking why she was sitting by the window, Yu Jinzhao settled down cross-legged beside her, their bodies pressed close, almost touching.
At four in the morning, I saw the crabapple blossoms still awake.
A line of poetry she had read long ago suddenly surfaced in her mind. Back then, she couldn’t fathom how those words could be connected to love. But now, as she gazed at Pei Daowan, she understood.
In that instant, she understood perfectly. The poem she had read years ago aligned perfectly with the scene before her, and Pei Daowan was right beside her.
“Pei Daowan, do you know? I used to fantasize about the kind of person I would fall in love with. Back then, my ideal type was a gentle, independent, kind, and highly educated older sister. My friends even teased me for having such high standards.”
Gentle? Highly educated? Kind?
Pei Daowan silently weighed the significance of these words. She realized that she didn’t seem to fit Yu Jinzhao’s ideal type at all.
A pang of jealousy tugged at her heart, and she couldn’t resist teasing, “Those are quite high standards indeed.”
“Hmm.” Yu Jinzhao neither confirmed nor denied it.
Yet fate had been kind to her. Despite her high standards, she had found someone who far surpassed her ideal type.
“Pei Daowan, do you know? I kept thinking about something while I was showering.”
Without waiting for Pei Daowan’s response, Yu Jinzhao continued, “I was trying to confirm something. I think I really like you.”
The person who heard these words maintained an outwardly calm expression, showing no visible reaction to Yu Jinzhao’s confession. But beneath the blanket, her fingers trembled slightly.
Yu Jinzhao likes her?!
Does Yu Jinzhao really like me? Has she seen the real me? How can she say she likes me so easily? Does she even know me at all?!
In an instant, her doubts about Yu Jinzhao overshadowed her own emotions. She became ruthlessly detached, coldly extracting herself from the situation. Her expression turned icy, her voice devoid of warmth as she coldly questioned Yu Jinzhao’s earlier declaration, each word dripping with disdain.
Yu Jinzhao froze for a moment, her panic and awkwardness laid bare before Pei Daowan’s eyes. Pei Daowan couldn’t help but sneer inwardly.
Just as I thought. All that talk of “liking” was just a fleeting impulse. So how is she any different from those who lust after my appearance?
Realizing that Yu Jinzhao wasn’t as brave or sincere as she had imagined, Pei Daowan nearly couldn’t conceal her disappointment.
She feigned composure. “Alright, go get some rest. Don’t dwell on such trivial matters. I’ll take you to the doctor tomorrow morning.”
With that, she turned to leave, giving Yu Jinzhao no chance to explain and wanting nothing more than to escape this place.
Yu Jinzhao immediately stood up and grabbed Pei Daowan’s hand, refusing to let her go.
“Let go,” Pei Daowan’s voice was as cold as ice, her gaze even colder, utterly devoid of emotion as she stared at Yu Jinzhao.
