Chapter 16: “If You Don’t Want to Do It, Then Get Out.”
The two of them didn’t get to the hotel until well past midnight. After fooling around until dawn, they barely got a few hours of sleep before the phone rang.
It was Shen Mengke’s phone.
She didn’t want to answer and buried her head under the blanket. Chen Yanxing hung up the call for her, but it only stayed quiet for a few seconds before the phone rang again.
Chen Yanxing sighed. “Why is there always so much drama after we sleep together?”
They had only done it twice—and both times they were woken up by phone calls.
“You’re not trending again, are you?” she said, bringing the noisy phone to the pillow next to Shen Mengke.
Shen Mengke let out a grunt and reached out from under the blanket, snatching the phone and slamming it onto the ground with a loud thud.
Silence fell around them, broken only by the sound of breathing.
Chen Yanxing stared at the lump under the blanket for a few seconds. Just as she was about to get out of bed, a hand reached out and grabbed her.
“Chen Yanxing…”
The voice came muffled from under the blanket, sounding like it was on the verge of tears.
Chen Yanxing stopped moving, letting herself be held by the arm, and just sat there, looking at her.
After a long pause, Shen Mengke spoke again.
“Let’s do it again, okay?”
Chen Yanxing stared at her silently, then suddenly leaned over and pulled back the blanket.
Light spilled in. Shen Mengke clenched her eyes shut and covered her face with her hand. “What are you doing?!”
Chen Yanxing grabbed her hand and pinned it beside her. Her eyes locked onto Shen Mengke’s, but she said nothing.
Feeling the pressure, Shen Mengke finally opened her eyes, frowning coldly.
“If you don’t want to do it, then get out.”
Chen Yanxing scoffed, “Shen Mengke, I’m not your s3x toy.”
Shen Mengke raised her gaze, staring at her for a few seconds before suddenly smirking. She pushed Chen Yanxing down and sat up, brushing her messy hair into some order before calmly saying:
“What else would I want you for? Decoration?”
Chen Yanxing’s gaze turned cold.
Shen Mengke continued, “I’m not after your money or your power. I only want your body. Is that so wrong?”
“When we signed the contract, you insisted on exclusivity. What, does that only apply to me? You think you can just walk away whenever you feel like it? It doesn’t work that way.”
She suddenly pounced on Chen Yanxing, nearly knocking her off the bed.
“I said from the beginning—I want you. When I need you, you come.”
“When you need me, I have to come running. But when you don’t, you wave me away like trash? No way.”
In her movement, she pressed her injured foot again, drawing a sharp breath of pain. Still, she kept her composure and stared Chen Yanxing down.
Her twisted logic momentarily doused the anger that had started to boil in Chen Yanxing.
She let out a laugh. “And what if I just don’t want to?”
Shen Mengke frowned and forcefully pushed her down. “That’s not up to you.”
She straddled her, fingers trailing slowly down Chen Yanxing’s neck—like a shameless rogue.
Chen Yanxing lifted her eyes and smirked. She grabbed Shen Mengke’s hand. “Miss Shen, yes, we signed a contract. But I’m not a prostitute. We do this only if we both want to.”
Shen Mengke pouted in frustration and was about to speak again, but Chen Yanxing interrupted her.
“But if you really need it… there are other ways I can make you feel good. It doesn’t always require penetration…”
“Shut up… mmm!” Shen Mengke tried to cut her off, but Chen Yanxing suddenly clamped a hand over her mouth—the same hand she had used to toy with her last night.
At the mention of that and the sudden physical contact, Shen Mengke’s mind spiraled into chaos, and her ears flushed red.
Chen Yanxing noticed but pretended not to. “We’re partners—let’s call it allies. We should respect each other. If you keep spacing out like you did last night, then I guarantee none of our encounters will be enjoyable.”
Shen Mengke bit her lip and quietly climbed off her. Chen Yanxing’s words had struck a nerve, but she would never admit she was wrong.
She grabbed her clothes and limped toward the bathroom, leaving behind a cold, “Boring.”
Chen Yanxing watched her retreat, a chuckle slipping out. Her eyes then drifted to the shattered phone on the floor.
Shen Mengke showered quickly. In fact, they had already bathed after their fun last night—and even snuck in another round in the bathroom.
Now, she just needed an excuse to escape.
Why was this woman so dull? She, a gorgeous beauty, had thrown herself at her, and yet Chen Yanxing had the audacity to play coy.
Boring! Absolutely boring!
When Shen Mengke came out, she had regained her composure. But seeing Chen Yanxing fully dressed made her feel awkward again. Just moments ago, she had tried to force herself on her…
Chen Yanxing was fiddling with her phone and didn’t look up when she said, “The screen’s shattered, but it doesn’t look too bad. Should still work.”
“Oh.” Shen Mengke walked over and watched as she powered the phone on. “That call earlier was from your agent. Might be something important. You can use my phone to call her back.”
Shen Mengke took the silver phone suspiciously. Wait a second—hadn’t it been black last time when they added each other on WeChat?
She checked again, then put it down. “No need. My agent knows everything. It’s not important.”
She sat on the sofa and rubbed her right foot. It had gone numb while she was dozing off in the bathroom and she’d slipped. It didn’t seem serious, but something felt off.
Chen Yanxing glanced at it and placed the broken phone on the table. “It’s swollen. Better go get it checked. Could be something worse.”
“It’s not that easy to break something. And you!” Shen Mengke suddenly pointed at her. “You’re the one who yanked my foot last night! That’s why it’s swollen!”
“That was an accident… besides, why’d you run? What’s wrong with just staying put?”
Chen Yanxing grabbed her hand. “Stop rubbing it. You’ll make it worse.”
Shen Mengke was speechless and looked away, picking up her phone. A few cracks marred the screen, and when she tapped it, it suddenly went black.
They stared at the dead phone for a moment. She pressed the power button a few times, then gave up. “It’s dead.”
Chen Yanxing handed her her own phone, but Shen Mengke refused. “I don’t remember the number.”
Chen Yanxing tapped around on the screen a bit, then handed it over again.
When the phone reached her hand, it was already ringing. On the other end was Fan Shi’s voice.
Shen Mengke stared at Chen Yanxing in surprise. “You…”
“I looked into you.”
“…”
“Mengke? Is that you?”
“Ah, yes.” Shen Mengke refocused. “Fan-jie, I’m at…” She looked at Chen Yanxing.
She had been dragged here last night, and with her foot injured, she hadn’t noticed the place.
“Senlan Hotel,” Chen Yanxing said.
“Oh, Senlan Hotel. I twisted my ankle. Come save me!”
“You twisted your ankle during s3x?” Fan Shi was in disbelief when she picked her up. “You two… that intense?”
Shen Mengke hobbled out of the hotel in her high-end dress, wearing Chen Yanxing’s shoes and draped in Fan Shi’s coat. “What are you talking about? I twisted it in heels.”
Fan Shi’s eyes drifted to her feet. “Where are your shoes?”
“No idea. Probably still at Yuechen.”
Once she was in the car, Fan Shi asked, “Why didn’t you answer your phone?”
Shen Mengke casually held up her broken phone. “Here.”
“…Be more careful next time, alright?”
Shen Mengke: “…”
Fan Shi chuckled at her pouty face. “The contract for the dating show is at the company. I was going to have you look at it, but in your state… I’ll bring it to you later.”
“Okay.”
“Oh, and—you’re trending again.”
Shen Mengke froze. “Chen Yanxing? She can’t appear online!”
“It’s not her—it’s Xu Shinian.”
“Who?!”
“But it’s weird. This time, before we even reacted, there were obvious efforts to push the trending topic, and others trying to suppress it…”
“Mengke, your Weibo gained 700,000 followers this morning.”
Shen Mengke stared wide-eyed and grabbed Fan Shi’s phone. Her profile page was still gaining followers like crazy.
“What… What’s trending? Don’t tell me Asking the Heart already aired?”
“Close—it’s your CP with Xu Shinian.”
#XuShinianShenMengkeClassroomCP#
On the way to the hospital, Shen Mengke scrolled through the tag in chronological order. It all started with photos of her and Xu Shinian talking at a banquet. In one, Xu Shinian was whispering in her ear and just happened to glance toward the camera—fans interpreted the look as possessive or smug…
Then a bunch of behind-the-scenes and fan-taken footage started circulating, cut into CP edits.
It started out as harmless fun from shippers. But in the middle of the night, Xu Shinian posted on Weibo: “Had fun drinking with someone.” She even “accidentally” clicked into the CP’s super topic several times.
That was all fans needed to assume she was talking about Shen Mengke. They connected the dots, and CP fans started tagging Shen Mengke under Xu Shinian’s post. Xu Shinian’s fans weren’t having it.
Add in Shen Mengke’s scandalous past, and Xu Shinian’s fans were not happy about her being shipped with their idol. They were already annoyed about Xu Shinian filming Asking the Heart, which they considered a flop project.
Now it blew up. Multiple fandoms jumped into the drama—up to five or six groups were involved.
Staring at the number one trending tag, Shen Mengke felt an overwhelming wave of irritation.
“Suppress it! Xu Shinian is doing this on purpose, can’t you see? She was passive-aggressive last night. I bet she’s the reason Asking the Heart halted production!”
Fan Shi stared at her, stunned. “Someone is suppressing it, but others keep boosting it—it won’t drop.”
“Who?! Who’s boosting it?!”
Fan Shi shook her head.
Frustrated, Shen Mengke shoved the phone back and crossed her arms, staring out the window.
“Sue them. All of them. Now and before—sue every slanderer. I’m done taking this!”
Her reaction surprised Fan Shi. Shen Mengke had always been known for her “big heart”—the kind who could laugh off even the most vile slander.
“What’s gotten into you?”
“I’m just pissed…” she muttered.
The silence lasted three seconds before she blurted out again, “I’m going crazy, Fan-jie! She’s coming back! If she sees what a mess I’ve become, what am I supposed to do?!”
“Who?” Fan Shi asked, baffled.
“Shu Yun! Who else?!”
