Chapter 46: “Are you crazy?” / “No.”
Shen Mengke stood still, the yellow light spilling over her, enveloping her in an extremely soft, shimmering veil.
She looked ahead, then at Chen Yanxing, and suddenly laughed, “I won’t even hit a lamppost, right?”
“What if? Isn’t that how it always plays out on TV? A disheartened person walks down the street, and bam, they hit this or that, ending up dead or crippled.”
Shen Mengke smiled and took her hand, slowly pressing it down. “You still watch TV? I thought someone like you would be living like a monk, always meditating and eating vegetarian meals.”
Chen Yanxing looked at her, raising an eyebrow as if to say, Are you sure?
Shen Mengke continued with a smile, “Besides, I’m not disheartened; this is a new beginning. I’ve finally broken free from the past. You should be happy for me.”
“Then shall we go celebrate?”
“Where?” Shen Mengke turned to look at her, her eyes bright and round, as if sparkling, utterly beautiful.
Chen Yanxing thought for a moment, then suddenly looked up at the sky. The moon had peeked out from behind thick clouds. She suddenly said, “Want to watch the sunrise?”
“Hmm?”
Shen Mengke also looked up, unable to help but laugh. “Sure.”
Chen Yanxing had expected Shen Mengke to refuse, as it didn’t sound like a great idea. But Shen Mengke found the idea’s proposer, Chen Yanxing, even more interesting.
Though it was a spur-of-the-moment decision, they still drove out of the city late that night and went to a mountain outside the city.
By the time they reached the mountaintop, Shen Mengke was too exhausted to move.
There really weren’t many people climbing the mountain at that hour, and this mountain was just a small one, not a tourist attraction.
The mountaintop was bare, with two trees standing there, and not even a few blades of grass.
Shen Mengke sat on a rock, shivering slightly as a breeze blew past.
Chen Yanxing pulled out a tissue for her. “Wipe your sweat; don’t catch a cold.”
Shen Mengke laughed as she wiped, “In college, there was a period when watching the sunrise was very popular, but not on a mountain, by a lake.”
“Our dorm talked about it from freshman year until graduation, but we never went to watch it once.”
“Then next time, by the lake?” Chen Yanxing also sat beside Shen Mengke, looking up at the pitch-black distance.
“Hmm… it’s not certain if there’ll be a next time.”
“Actually, I know an even better place to watch the sunrise.”
“Oh?”
“Yanyun Temple, where I grew up. But it’s too far, otherwise I would have taken you there.”
As Chen Yanxing spoke, another gust of wind blew, and a leaf drifted down from above them.
Shen Mengke reached out and picked up the leaf. “So, did you eat vegetarian food since you were little? I haven’t seen you not eat meat, though. Drinking, eating meat, making love – little Daoist, your Daoist heart isn’t stable.”
Chen Yanxing heard her, watching Shen Mengke hold the leaf in her hand, and chuckled. “I only stayed there for two years before going abroad. But I know an elder sister who drinks and eats meat; she lives a very free life.”
“Huh?” Shen Mengke couldn’t help but look up at her. “Is that allowed?”
“Of course not. So she was expelled from the sect, and then she traveled around, carrying a peach wood sword. She’d occasionally go back to see her master, and each time she’d make her master so angry his beard would bristle and his eyes would widen. She’d practically be expelled every single time she came back.”
Shen Mengke listened, laughing heartily. “Every time? Then her master probably didn’t really want to expel her, right?”
“Mhm, because she’s very capable, highly perceptive, and the most powerful person among the younger generation at Yanyun Temple.”
Shen Mengke: “I see, that’s what you call a ‘disobedient disciple’.”
After she spoke, they looked at each other and both burst into laughter.
Both of them had been through quite a bit recently, and now it all erupted at once. Even though it was late at night, and they had climbed a mountain all night, their spirits were still high.
They sat together chatting about everything and anything, not feeling sleepy at all, and for a while, they forgot the time.
It wasn’t until a hint of color suddenly appeared on the horizon that Chen Yanxing abruptly stood up. Shen Mengke also immediately turned her head to look, as if a hand had suddenly ripped open a huge black curtain, revealing a sliver of light on the stage.
Orange, yellow, white, blue.
Then, the range of colors gradually expanded until only the ground beneath their feet remained black.
Shen Mengke also stood up, and with Chen Yanxing, stood on the mountain edge, gazing at the scenery in the distance.
The yellow became increasingly bright, countless rays of light shooting out from the distant horizon. The originally clear blue was covered in a white glow, becoming hazy, but that hint of orange remained dazzling.
The city beneath them slowly took shape, a few scattered lights twinkling like insignificant stars in a vast galaxy, yet remarkably striking in the cloudy weather.
The white grew brighter and brighter, illuminating the distant mountain peaks, trees, and even the faraway city, all clearly visible.
Shen Mengke’s heart suddenly quickened, an unprovoked surge of excitement.
The sun suddenly peeked out, a gleaming dot of yellow, instantly grabbing all attention from the moment it appeared.
No one could fail to notice that sun at that moment.
The sun grew larger and larger, its light gradually becoming dazzling. Not a single shadow remained at the foot of the mountain; all darkness had nowhere to hide and vanished.
The distant city seemed to come alive instantly. Standing on the mountaintop, Shen Mengke felt as if she could hear the honking of cars, the shouts from the morning market, and the increasingly irritable voices of mothers calling their children to wake up.
Everything became vibrant with the rising sun.
Sunlight fell on Shen Mengke’s face. Chen Yanxing quietly turned her head to look. Shen Mengke, having been awake all night, showed no signs of fatigue; instead, the sunlight seemed to enhance her complexion, making her look very well.
Shen Mengke tilted her head, also looking at Chen Yanxing. The moment their eyes met, both couldn’t help but laugh.
“So silly,” Shen Mengke said.
“Mm,” Chen Yanxing responded, but still couldn’t stop smiling.
Shen Mengke couldn’t help but keep looking at her, saying, “You seem to have changed a lot. When I first met you, you weren’t like this.”
“How was I?”
“When I first met you, you were so arrogant, like the kind of person who’d throw a five-million-yuan card in my face and tell me to leave.”
“And now?”
“Now…” Shen Mengke looked at her, then suddenly extended a finger and poked her forehead. “Fool.”
Shen Mengke poked her and then ran, walking in the direction they had come up the mountain. After a couple of steps, she didn’t forget to call back to Chen Yanxing, “Hurry up! I’m starving and sleepy now. Let’s go down the mountain quickly, grab some food, and then go back to catch up on sleep.”
Chen Yanxing watched her retreating back, touching the spot Shen Mengke had poked, her upturned lips never dropping.
“Coming,” she said, following behind Shen Mengke, and together they walked back down the way they came.
…
On the way back to Jiangcheng, they passed a village, and Shen Mengke suddenly had an idea to go into the village for breakfast.
One, formerly of the Chen family, now the Xia family, a complete second-generation rich kid, and the other, a glamorous celebrity, covered in dust from coming down the mountain, squeezed into a breakfast shop with a group of schoolchildren.
There were many left-behind children in the village, mostly brought by their grandparents for breakfast.
Shen Mengke and Chen Yanxing sat facing each other, couldn’t help but scan the shop. Stirring the tofu in her bowl, Shen Mengke said, “When I was little, for a while, my aunt was hospitalized, and Grandma went to the hospital to take care of her. It was just Grandpa and me at home.”
She chuckled, apparently thinking of something, and continued, “Grandpa couldn’t comb hair, so my hair was always messy during that time. It was the school teacher who couldn’t stand it anymore and helped me comb it. Then every morning, he’d give me two yuan to go eat breakfast. He loved noodles, so I ate noodles with him for half a month, which caused me to feel nauseous whenever I saw noodles for a long time afterward.”
Chen Yanxing looked at her, silent for a moment, then suddenly said, “You’ve never talked about your family.”
“Mm,” Shen Mengke responded softly, lowering her gaze. “Before, a fortune teller told me I had a good fate, and I would definitely achieve great things in the future, but the price was… I would bring death to my family members.” She shrugged, “Sure enough, some died, some left, and now I’ve become a lone wolf.”
“He lied to you,” Chen Yanxing said. “A real fortune teller wouldn’t tell you something like that.”
“Really?” Shen Mengke looked up, propping her chin on her hand, gazing at her. “Then, Daoist Chen, can you tell fortunes?”
“Yes, I’ll tell yours when we get back.”
“Okay.”
On the way back, Chen Yanxing asked her if she was happy today. Shen Mengke chuckled, saying, “It’s alright.”
…
Shen Mengke fell asleep; she was indeed tired, both physically and mentally. But the moment the car stopped, she opened her eyes again.
Chen Yanxing, who was just about to wake her, withdrew her hand and gently said, “We’re home.”
Shen Mengke rubbed her eyes, unbuckling her seatbelt, and instinctively looked out the car window. Her movements froze when she saw the completely unfamiliar scenery.
Her mind cleared almost instantly, and she immediately turned to look at Chen Yanxing, “Where is this?”
This wasn’t her home.
“Employee dormitory,” Chen Yanxing said, already out of the car and opening the door for Shen Mengke on the other side. “Please, Miss Shen.”
Shen Mengke squinted slightly, looking up at her but not moving. “Prosperity Entertainment is so generous? Employee dorms in a villa area?”
Chen Yanxing smiled and said, “Didn’t I tell you? It’s my house; it has everything. You should sleep first, then I’ll take you back to pack your things.”
Shen Mengke clicked her tongue lightly, her fingers on the seatbelt buckle, but she made no move. “I believe I said I dislike when people take matters into their own hands.”
Chen Yanxing stopped smiling. She looked at Shen Mengke and said, “Taking matters into my own hands? Yes, taking you here has a hidden purpose.”
“What?”
Chen Yanxing didn’t answer. Instead, she once again took matters into her own hands, bending down to grasp Shen Mengke’s hand, forcefully moving it from the buckle and unfastening her seatbelt.
As the belt retracted, Chen Yanxing turned her head and said, “I don’t like Shu Yun, and I especially don’t like staying in her house.”
Shen Mengke burst out laughing. She tilted her head slightly towards Chen Yanxing, “Are you jealous?”
They were so close, their noses almost touching, their breaths intertwining in an instant. Chen Yanxing gazed down at her, her flushed lips opening and closing as she spoke, like freshly washed cherries, sparkling and translucent, just missing some water droplets.
As if possessed, she swallowed, not hearing what Shen Mengke was saying, only watching her continuously opening and closing lips, and then she leaned in and kissed her.
Abruptly, unreasonably.
Shen Mengke’s eyes widened in surprise, but before she could resist, both of her hands were already controlled by Chen Yanxing.
Chen Yanxing had moved partly into the car, one knee bent and pressed against Shen Mengke’s inner thigh, half-kneeling on the seat.
The passenger seat had been moved back, and the backrest was suddenly reclined.
Shen Mengke’s body fell back abruptly, but Chen Yanxing’s hand steadily cradled the back of her head, preventing her from hitting it.
Shen Mengke couldn’t help but look up at Chen Yanxing. She didn’t quite understand the source of Chen Yanxing’s impulsiveness this time, yet she seemed to know a little.
So, she didn’t resist, only tilted her head slightly, complying with Chen Yanxing.
It was probably around ten in the morning, and not many people would be around at this time in this area, but Shen Mengke still felt inexplicably nervous.
She gently bit Chen Yanxing’s lip, reminding her to go back inside, but Chen Yanxing pulled her other leg into the car and closed the door.
Shen Mengke’s eyes widened instantly, looking at Chen Yanxing in surprise. As open-minded as she was, she couldn’t possibly do it directly in the car.
“Chen…”
Just when she managed to catch a breath, Shen Mengke was about to speak, but Chen Yanxing immediately blocked her again with forceful intent.
Her hands were clasped in front of her chest, trembling with the rise and fall of Chen Yanxing’s chest.
Her eyelashes also trembled, and the friction between their lips and the entanglement of their breaths made Shen Mengke hold her breath, only to be gently pinched on the waist by Chen Yanxing’s other hand. “Breathe,” she said.
Shen Mengke’s face inexplicably turned red. It wasn’t the first time, yet she was still being lectured by this girl?
With a hint of exasperation, Shen Mengke closed her eyes and, as if in defiance, bit down hard on Chen Yanxing’s lip.
Chen Yanxing winced, letting out a soft hum, but instead of retreating, she pressed forward. Her hand moved up from Shen Mengke’s waist, embracing the back of her neck, forcefully deepening the kiss.
Shen Mengke was forced to tilt her head back, and droplets of water hung on her flushed lips.
Tears welled from the corners of her eyes, her eyes and cheeks turning red, yet she grew softer and softer.
It wasn’t until Shen Mengke truly couldn’t breathe and her neck had also reddened that Chen Yanxing finally released her.
She leaned back, forced to bend over due to the height of the car.
Her hands supported her on the center console, a smile playing on her lips, her eyes full of mischievous intent.
Shen Mengke lay on the seat, taking a moment to recover, then finally looked up at her: “Are you crazy?”
“No,” Chen Yanxing said. “After a day and a night of mental tension and overexcitement, you’re full of energy right now. Releasing it will do you good, helping you sleep well.”
“Really?” Shen Mengke’s neck slowly lost its redness, her beautiful eyes not fully open, just a slit, as she peered at Chen Yanxing, a wide flush of red coloring her eye corners, making her appear alluring and sensual.
“I don’t know, how would we know without trying?”
“You…” Shen Mengke chuckled in exasperation. “If you want to do it, just say so. Why beat around the bush?”
“I don’t want to,” she said, “I just want to satisfy you.”
Saying that, she leaned in again, kissing Shen Mengke’s lips.
Though not entirely exposed, it was still outdoors. And while the windows were tinted, a car abruptly parked here could be easily peered into by any curious passerby, revealing most of what was happening inside.
Shen Mengke couldn’t relax, but Chen Yanxing had her ways.
She first gently held Shen Mengke’s lips, grinding and turning them until that flush of red became even more alluring.
Her teeth couldn’t help but linger for a moment, lightly grinding, not hard, but their presence was strong.
Shen Mengke couldn’t help but look up at her, and at a distance of less than three fingers, she directly met Chen Yanxing’s gaze, like a young deer accidentally stumbling into a black hole, crashing around but unable to find an exit.
She reached up and touched Chen Yanxing’s cheek, then hooked her neck, rising slightly, and actively deepened the kiss.
Her clothes, already disheveled from a night of activity, became completely undone, raising the already high temperature in the car by several degrees.
The dark purple shirt was unbuttoned two buttons from the top, revealing a delicate and alluring collarbone. Chen Yanxing’s somewhat rough fingers ground against that spot, and soon Shen Mengke let out a soft moan of pain, but Chen Yanxing seized the opportunity to swallow that sound back.
A breath caught, neither up nor down, forcing Shen Mengke to quickly shed tears, and her collarbone turned completely red.
Chen Yanxing looked up at her, seeing Shen Mengke’s tear-soaked eyes, and a fire silently reignited within her.
Shen Mengke was too beautiful, not just her skin, but her soul was even more captivating—a very bold yet timid soul. She used her beautiful skin to constantly support this fragile soul, it was simply…
Fierce on the outside, gentle on the inside.
Chen Yanxing thought countless times, if she were a demon, then Shen Mengke would surely be the perfect person to make a deal with. Her body was delicious enough, and her soul was by no means inferior.
From last night, from Shen Mengke slamming the table, to their gaze under the streetlights, from their panting while climbing the mountain together, to the moment the sunlight hit them on the mountaintop, from their shared laughter at the breakfast shop to the girl sleeping soundly in the seat – Chen Yanxing had countless moments throughout the day where she harbored flirtatious thoughts about Shen Mengke.
She suddenly understood Shu Yun a little. No woman who likes women could refuse someone like Shen Mengke. She was obedient enough, yet also audacious enough. She could pretend to be a pure little white rabbit, and at any moment, she could transform into a fierce big bad wolf, rising up and tearing her enemies to shreds.
Because she was good at disguising herself, or perhaps, because she unconsciously disguised herself, the more she did so, the more she could stimulate a desire for destruction in others.
To want to see her cry, to see her laugh, to see her angry, and also to see her satisfied. To want to see her true self, and also to see her feigned self.
This was Shen Mengke, and this was Chen Yanxing.
The more upright Shen Mengke was, the more sinister Chen Yanxing would be. Conversely, the more insincere Shen Mengke was, the more Chen Yanxing would force her to reveal her true feelings.
If Shen Mengke was a gentleman, Chen Yanxing was a scoundrel. If Shen Mengke was a scoundrel, Chen Yanxing was a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
“Mmm…”
A choked sob from Shen Mengke brought Chen Yanxing’s wandering thoughts back. She unconsciously relaxed, looking up at Shen Mengke, whose eyes, full of tears, glared playfully at her.
Chen Yanxing curved her lips, then said, “This is the after-sales service for the sunrise project, Miss Shen. If you’re not satisfied, please bear with it and don’t make a sound.”
As she spoke, her body slowly slid down, half-kneeling inside the car.
Her hands grasped Shen Mengke’s knees, gently pushing them outwards. Shen Mengke realized something and was about to raise her hands to stop her, but Chen Yanxing suddenly knelt upright, grabbed her hands, and pulled a zip tie from a box behind her, binding Shen Mengke’s hands.
Shen Mengke looked at her in surprise, “You…”
For a moment, she didn’t know whether to ask why Chen Yanxing had that in her car, or why Chen Yanxing was tying her up.
Chen Yanxing just smiled at her, as if seeing right through her. “My car has everything.”
But before she could say anything more, a warm breath suddenly enveloped her completely. Shen Mengke’s breath hitched, and she stared incredulously at the back of Chen Yanxing’s head.
Chen Yanxing’s hair was a bit messy; she usually tied it in a small bun at the back of her head, but last night while climbing the mountain, her hair tie had been snagged by a tree branch.
Now her hair was loose, falling between Shen Mengke’s legs, pricking her delicate skin, a dense, tingling sensation, both painful and exquisitely sensitive.
Shen Mengke couldn’t help but stretch her neck, softly calling Chen Yanxing’s name, but only received a muffled reply.
She closed her eyes; she felt like she was hallucinating.
