Why Not (Lily ABO) - Chapter 1
At the entrance of A University, Shi Jing leaned against her car door impatiently, her eyes fixed on the school gate. As for why she was waiting outside in 30-degree Celsius heat, she had her love-struck, family-forgetting younger brother to blame.
Two days ago, her mother called from home, saying their father would be in A City next weekend for business and would come early to spend the weekend together. Yesterday, when she called Shi Xu to tell him, he simply said he was going to dinner with a girl he liked and would talk when he got home that night, then hung up. Because of this, Shi Jing specifically chose not to work overtime at the company, brought all her work home, and worked in her study until midnight without him returning. That’s why she made a special trip to A University.
It has to be said, youth is great; aside from classes, all other time is freely managed. As the day’s classes ended, the number of people at the campus entrance gradually increased, from twos and threes to groups, and yes, quite a few young couples too. Shi Jing suddenly felt regret. Her college life, apart from a crush on a senior, had no other romantic history. Should she not have rejected that Omega from the club back then?
Shi Jing, recalling her college days, suddenly saw a familiar face—wasn’t that her good-for-nothing brother? He wouldn’t reply to messages; it seemed he just lost his soul when he saw a pretty girl. She quickly stepped forward, intending to drag him home and give him a good lecture. As she got closer, she realized this Omega seemed very popular. Many people greeted her along the way, and she responded politely.
It was no wonder Shi Xu liked her, because she was also the type Shi Jing would like. No overly elaborate makeup, fair skin, a neat and tidy high ponytail, a simple white T-shirt, and well-fitting work pants.
“Shi—Xu—!”
“Sister? Are you coming to dinner with us? Shuyun and I are just about to go to that new hotpot restaurant.”
That expression didn’t look like an invitation; it was clearly him trying to get rid of her and not ruin his date. He didn’t even ask why she was there, just immediately tried to shoo her away. But Shi Jing wasn’t going to argue with him. She completely ignored Shi Xu’s gaze, turned to look at Fu Shuyun, hesitated for a moment, then politely started to converse.
“Hello, Shuyun. I’ve heard Shi Xu mention you. I’m Shi Xu’s older sister, Shi Jing.”
After speaking, she extended her hand to the young girl for a very formal handshake. This was a habit Shi Jing had developed after starting work; she always shook hands at the first meeting. Only afterward did she realize this wasn’t a work interaction, and a simple greeting would have been enough for a university student. However, Fu Shuyun still politely extended her hand with a bright, sunny smile, her eyes lingering on Shi Jing’s face.
“Hello, sister.”
“I’m sorry you two can’t have dinner together today. Shi Xu has to come home with me. Where are you planning to go? I’ll give you a ride.”
After saying that, she didn’t forget to glare at Shi Xu. The two women chatted naturally, ignoring Shi Xu’s protests, and finally walked together towards the SUV parked by the roadside.
“World Trade Center, right? There’s also a very good Japanese restaurant over there. Perhaps we can try it together next time. As compensation for today, my treat, sister.”
Her brother had stood up a girl today, and it was because she, as his sister, had intercepted him midway. She felt she ought to make some gesture. So, she opened the navigation, started the car, glanced at the destination, and recalled her former boss who had given up being a director to open a Japanese restaurant.
Actually, even if Shi Xu hadn’t come home yesterday, and even if he had replied to her messages today, she wouldn’t have needed to stake out the A University entrance. After shifting the blame to Shi Xu, the burden in Shi Jing’s heart instantly vanished. “That’s what you get for not taking my words seriously.”
“Okay! I really like Japanese food too! So… can sister add me on WeChat? It’d be convenient for making dinner plans!”
“Hmm? Sure, just have Shi Xu push your contact to me later.”
Shi Jing later learned that she had already been targeted by Fu Shuyun at this point. Of course, that’s a story for later. At the moment, she didn’t understand why Fu Shuyun absolutely needed to add her WeChat; wasn’t contacting Shi Xu the same?
As a mature Alpha, respecting and understanding Omegas had always been her principle. This was also why her team had a majority of Omegas. She simply valued work ability, and compared to arrogant, rude Alphas, Shi Jing preferred to work with diligent and responsible Omegas.
It wasn’t yet rush hour at 5 PM, so the road was clear with no traffic. The 10-kilometer drive took less than half an hour, arriving safely at the entrance of the World Trade Center.
“Thanks, sister! Shi Xu, remember to push sister’s WeChat to me, okay? Bye, Shi Xu! Bye, sister!”
With that, Fu Shuyun opened the car door and left. Watching Fu Shuyun’s retreating back, Shi Xu finally couldn’t hold it in. He had worked so hard, running to Fu Shuyun’s classroom every day after class, asking all her roommates, and finally learned she had a soft spot for hotpot. It was through hotpot that he finally had the wonderful night of his life’s first solo dinner with the Omega he liked. If only Shi Jing hadn’t shown up! Shi Xu was furious now. Why did Fu Shuyun want to add his sister’s WeChat just because of one Japanese meal from his sister?!
“Sister, do you know how much I sacrificed for today? What could possibly be more important than your own brother’s happiness?”
“Mom and Dad are here. They arrive at the airport at 6.”
Almost instantly, Shi Xu remembered his sister’s call yesterday asking him to come home, and then he remembered the stacks of delivery boxes in his room, as well as the room key in his backpack. He really wanted to smack himself for telling his sister before school started that his room didn’t need cleaning and she wasn’t allowed in, and for nonchalantly taking the key with him. If he had known this, he wouldn’t have done that. Oh, now not only did he stand up the girl he liked, but he also made his sister so angry that she intercepted him at the school gate, and when he gets home, he’ll probably be lectured by his parents. Is there anyone more miserable than him?
Meanwhile, Fu Shuyun, who arrived alone at the World Trade Center, looked at the newly added WeChat contact on her phone, and her mood involuntarily brightened. A smile appeared on her already beautiful face. Fu Shuyun didn’t actually like Japanese food that much; she could tolerate it and would eat it, but her absolute favorite was always all kinds of hotpot. As for why she accepted…
If she had to say, she only thought Shi Xu looked good, but overly enthusiastic Alphas always gave her a feeling of not being serious. Life isn’t just about dating, okay? Accepting the invitation was just because she couldn’t refuse hotpot. But his sister, Shi Jing, was so cool! Is this what a mature Alpha is like? Her shoulder-length black hair wasn’t messy at all, she wore business attire, clear blue eyes with gold-rimmed glasses, and most importantly, that faint scent of lily of the valley on her. This was Fu Shuyun’s favorite flower, symbolizing enduring happiness.
From her physique and looks to her pheromones, even the music playing in her car was Fu Shuyun’s favorite classical. Shi Jing was exactly what Fu Shuyun’s ideal partner should be; she was, one could say, her dream lover. This made the 19-year-old want to fall in love for the first time and spend the night with Shi Jing.
