Why Not (Lily ABO) - Chapter 7
After the two arrived home, Fu Shuyun immediately inhaled a deep breath of Wan Yuan as soon as she entered, embracing it and beginning an intimate conversation. The cat and human chatted animatedly, a sight that brought a benevolent, motherly smile to Shi Jing’s face. She took the groceries into the kitchen, just about to start prepping ingredients, when Fu Shuyun shooed her out.
“I said I’d handle it! Sister, go rest! We’ll eat soon!”
Shi Jing, unable to argue with her, had no choice but to leave the kitchen. She fed Wan Yuan some food, then went to take a shower. Fu Shuyun finished prepping all the ingredients, arranged them on plates on the table, added boiling water to the electric hotpot, and put in the hotpot base. Everything was ready, just waiting for Shi Jing to finish her shower.
Fu Shuyun washed her hands and sat on the sofa, petting Wan Yuan. As expected of someone who “cloud-pets” cats daily, her technique was skilled, and Wan Yuan purred contentedly. Wan Yuan seemed to really like Fu Shuyun; not only did it rub against her for pets, but it also meowed, jumped onto Fu Shuyun’s lap, found a comfortable position, curled into a cat loaf, and continued to enjoy the human’s massage.
Shi Jing’s hair wasn’t long. She disliked using a hairdryer, so she just towel-dried it, put on her pajamas, and exited the room. Seeing Wan Yuan lying on Fu Shuyun’s lap, looking utterly content, Shi Jing felt a pang of jealousy.
“Why is it that you eat my food, live in my house, sleep in my bed, spend my money, yet you never cling to me? You won’t even stay on my lap for long; a quick pat is a huge favor. You run off after just two strokes, and I still have to clean up your fur! Ungrateful cat!”
Fu Shuyun, the person involved, felt entirely different. She thought life was wonderful, owning a cat was so much fun, the little cat was too cute, and being at Sister’s house was just blissful. The cat’s favor meant she didn’t even notice Shi Jing walking towards her.
“Wan Yuan really likes you, doesn’t she, little cat?”
Shi Jing walked over, not forgetting to sound a little sour. She sat down next to Fu Shuyun, propped one hand on the sofa, and reached over with the other to stroke Wan Yuan, who was sprawled on Fu Shuyun’s lap. She even pinched its ear in mock anger, then kneaded the flesh on its belly, and finally reached for Wan Yuan’s paws, inevitably brushing Fu Shuyun’s thigh. Almost at the instant Shi Jing’s hand touched her, Fu Shuyun’s entire body stiffened, and the elegant scent of lily of the valley filled her nostrils as Shi Jing drew near.
It was the first time she was so close to Shi Jing. Fu Shuyun heard her own heartbeat pounding exceptionally loudly.
“Her paws used to be so soft when she was little, easy to knead. Now that she’s grown, her cat paws aren’t as good to squeeze as when she was a kitten, and she’s not as clingy either. Bad cat, you can’t even move when you see a pretty young lady.”
Shi Jing was completely oblivious to Fu Shuyun’s change, nor did she notice how ambiguous their posture was, still miffed that Wan Yuan never actively clung to her.
If this continued, Fu Shuyun felt she would definitely succumb to the urge to devour Shi Jing right then and there. Despite her reluctance to break the beautiful moment, she still spoke up.
“Sister… the hotpot is ready. Shall we eat?”
“Okay, let’s eat.”
Saying this, Shi Jing picked up Wan Yuan and deposited it onto the sofa. The two then got up and sat at the dining table. Well, what can she say? As expected of a hotpot enthusiast, the ingredients she chose were perfect for hotpot, and she had prepped them wonderfully. It seemed that the more you ate, the better you understood it.
“Sister, are you free during National Day? I know an amazing hotpot place.”
As they chatted, they talked about their National Day plans. Fu Shuyun invited Shi Jing, saying her mother had abandoned her to travel. In truth, she had kept her time free for Shi Jing and declined her mothers’ invitation to travel together. She had planned for everything but hadn’t anticipated Shi Jing needing to go on a business trip.
“National Day, huh? I can, but I’ll have to wait until I get back from my business trip.”
“Huh? You still have to work?”
“It’s okay! Just remember to ask me out when you get back. I’ll be in A City.”
Making employees go on business trips during National Day? This company had no conscience! It was blatant exploitation! At this moment, General Manager Fu, who had just finished overtime and was preparing to go home, sneezed.
Thinking of Wan Yuan’s intimate actions with Fu Shuyun earlier, Shi Jing’s eyes lit up. If Shi Xu was going home, it should be fine. Anyway, she’d changed the password, so he couldn’t get in.
“Shuyun, if you don’t have plans for National Day, would you like to stay here? Take care of Wan Yuan for those few days I’m on my business trip.”
“I’ll bring you a gift when I get back and treat you to hotpot.”
“All you can eat.”
This seemed like the best solution at the moment. Fu Shuyun liked cats, and Wan Yuan was fond of Shuyun. She’d ask first, and if she didn’t have time, she’d think of other ways. After speaking, she thoughtfully poured Fu Shuyun another glass of cola, observing Fu Shuyun’s expression as she awaited her reply.
“Really?! I’ll take good care of Wan Yuan!”
This was great! She could openly stay at her sister’s house, a National Day exclusive! She seemed to have thought of something, her cheeks quietly reddening. Given that the two were eating hotpot on a hot day and the air conditioner was running continuously, it was indeed a bit warm while eating, so Shi Jing didn’t pay much attention.
Shi Jing offered to drive Fu Shuyun back to school, but she was instantly refused. Fu Shuyun had already called a ride-sharing car in advance. Shi Jing was still worried, so Fu Shuyun handed her phone to Shi Jing to show her the Omega-exclusive self-driving option with full location sharing, ensuring safe travel. She didn’t want to trouble Shi Jing, and taking a taxi back to school wouldn’t cost much anyway.
Shi Jing considered whether it would be easier to drive out her other car. The graduation gift her mother had given her was still parked in the courtyard. She’d only driven it once—the day she picked it up and drove it home. It hadn’t been started in over a year.
Respecting Fu Shuyun’s choice, Shi Jing tidied up the house, checked the location and estimated arrival time of the ride-share, and took Fu Shuyun downstairs early. The community’s landscaping was being maintained, so Shi Jing took Fu Shuyun’s hand and walked towards the main gate. The community at night was quiet, with only the two of them walking side by side.
“Next time, you can set the location to the west gate; it’s a bit closer,” Shi Jing told Fu Shuyun as they walked, thinking about Fu Shuyun coming to her house to take care of Wan Yuan during National Day. She took out her keys from her pocket, detached the community gate card, and handed them both to Fu Shuyun.
“The gate card works for every gate. The key is for the house door. Shi Xu will be home for National Day, so to be safe, I’ll change the password. Just use the key to come and go. I’ll get it back from you when I return.”
Shi Jing entered and exited daily, and the community guards recognized her. Not to mention, her car was already registered, so she could drive directly into the parking lot, which was why she handed the gate card over to Fu Shuyun as well. She needed to find time to go to the supermarket; there weren’t many household supplies left. She also needed to restock the fridge. After all, she was asking her to take care of Wan Yuan; she had to make sure she was comfortable.
Listening to Shi Jing’s words, a warm current flowed through Fu Shuyun’s heart. Sister was so thoughtful. Holding the key to Shi Jing’s home in her hand, this was probably the kind of love she longed for. Every minute and second spent with Shi Jing was happy. She respected her, spoke gently, not just in tone, but with a thoughtfulness that permeated every word. Look, she hadn’t even said anything, and Shi Jing had already given her the keys, even mentioning she’d change the password during National Day to ensure Shi Xu wouldn’t suddenly barge in.
What a wonderful sister. So, when could she be with her as her girlfriend?
“Tell me when you get back to the dorm. Be careful.”
Fu Shuyun said goodbye to Shi Jing. The smile on her face hadn’t faded all day. Whether it was the joy of petting the cat or her final conversation with Shi Jing, everything made her feel good. Yun Yan even asked her why she had returned. Fu Shuyun said she didn’t want to either; she didn’t have a reason to stay overnight yet. Even if she did, her sister would definitely still sleep in the study, so what would be the point of staying overnight?!
