Why Suffer for This Distress (GL) - Chapter 14
The closer the two got, the more uncontrollable Su Xiyan’s heartbeat became. She knew this was wrong, but the fire in her lower abdomen intensified. The desire swirling inside her body, unable to dissipate, suppressed her already shaky rationality, prompting Su Xiyan to move closer to He Jingmo, close enough to smell her breath, close enough for her nose to be filled with that rich fragrance.
Although the two had known each other for many years, Su Xiyan had never observed He Jingmo at such close range. At this moment, she realized how beautiful He Jingmo was. Her slightly curled eyelashes fluttered gently, her fair face glowed with a faint pink from deep sleep, and her skin was flawless like a baby’s. The loose pajamas could not completely cover her slender body, revealing a seductive collarbone and a large area of snow-white skin on her shoulder, and those tempting thin lips looked crystalline as if a drop of water had landed on them, making her mouth water. Her waterfall-like long hair was spread on the bed, and the strong contrast between black and white further stimulated her senses.
Everything was so familiar yet strange. Su Xiyan licked her lips, her gaze finally fixed on those thin, pink lips. Just one kiss… She won’t wake up if I just kiss her. Thinking this, she immediately acted. Su Xiyan propped one hand on the bedside. As her body moved, she slowly leaned closer, her lips seeking that delicate flesh. Just as the two thin lips were about to touch, He Jingmo tightly frowned and murmured, “Don’t…” Su Xiyan was so startled that she flinched, quickly retreating. She lost control of her momentum and landed on the floor on her butt, “Ouch…”
He Jingmo dreamed that Su Xiyan left alone on an airplane without any reason. Su Xiyan was determined to leave, and the resolute and heartless expression on her face chilled He Jingmo. No matter how much she cried or begged, Su Xiyan refused to stay. She was frantic but powerless, watching Su Xiyan’s back fade little by little until it disappeared.
Sitting on the floor in annoyance, the lust in her heart was immediately extinguished. Su Xiyan glared at He Jingmo on the bed, wanting to lose her temper, but she was frightened by the tears covering He Jingmo’s face. He Jingmo’s body trembled non-stop, her eyebrows were tightly furrowed, and she was curled up into a ball, clutching the bedsheet helplessly, tears streaming down continuously. Scrambling up from the floor, Su Xiyan immediately pulled He Jingmo into her arms, shaking her body repeatedly. “Jingmo, Jingmo? Wake up, wake up!”
He Jingmo was still weeping, curling up more severely. Su Xiyan’s heart ached. She didn’t want to shake her anymore, so she held her tightly, gently stroking her back, and softly comforting her. “Jingmo, Jingmo, don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Under Su Xiyan’s soothing, He Jingmo finally woke up. Her tears hadn’t dried yet. She opened her eyes, looking at everything in front of her with confusion and a lack of understanding, subconsciously calling out, “Xiyan…”
“You’re awake? I’m here.” Su Xiyan held He Jingmo close, refusing to let go. She had never seen He Jingmo like this. In her memory, He Jingmo was always the kind of person who silently cared for her, sympathized with her, and helped her. In all aspects, He Jingmo was strong and enduring. But now… Su Xiyan genuinely felt heartache. She desperately wanted to know what had caused He Jingmo to be so vulnerable and helpless. If she found out who had made He Jingmo so sad, she would never let that person off! Dismemberment or being torn apart by five horses would not be too much!
“Xiyan?” He Jingmo stared blankly at Su Xiyan as if unsure, her gaze dull, like a monk in deep meditation. Looking at Su Xiyan’s profile, she couldn’t distinguish between dream and reality. A deep sense of fear lingered in her heart and refused to dissipate. Her hand tightly gripped Su Xiyan’s collar, afraid she would leave. Su Xiyan felt deeply sorry seeing He Jingmo like this and quickly comforted her, “It’s alright, Jingmo, it was just a nightmare. It’s fine, it’s fine, okay?”
He Jingmo didn’t speak, still staring at her unblinkingly, afraid Su Xiyan would leave. Seeing the heartache in Su Xiyan’s eyes, He Jingmo’s eyes welled up with moisture. The bitterness in her heart shattered the mask of feigned strength she usually wore. For the first time, without any concealment or cover-up, she bit her lip and allowed herself to shrink into Su Xiyan’s arms.
When the soft body nestled weakly into her embrace, Su Xiyan’s eyes became a little moist. “There, there.” She gently patted He Jingmo’s back and comforted her softly. For some reason, the moment she saw He Jingmo cry, her heart also felt a painful ache, and she wanted to weep.
The surroundings were quiet. He Jingmo rested softly in Su Xiyan’s embrace, dropping all her guard. She closed her eyes, quietly savoring the warmth of the hug. All these years, what she had been looking forward to and desired was this not-so-broad but sufficiently warm embrace. No matter how much hard work she put in, no matter how many difficulties and obstacles she encountered, she would not give up. Even if the person in front of her always attracted different people, even if overwhelming sadness drowned her, even if tears were her only company at night, and even if she said she didn’t care while her heart ached to death, she never thought of giving up, simply because that person was Su Xiyan, the only person He Jingmo would ever cherish for her entire life.
She still remembered that year during her junior year, on the playground, when He Jingmo was bullied by a girl in her class. After Su Xiyan beat up the person, she sat on the horizontal bar, looked up, and proudly said to her, “He Jingmo, I will protect you for the rest of your life.” The sunlight hit Su Xiyan, dazzling and burning the eyes. That scene and that smile were forever imprinted in He Jingmo’s heart, never fading no matter how the years washed over them.
“Time to eat! Time to eat! Get up quickly! Are you a pig? Even pigs don’t sleep this long! Young people, don’t be so lazy!”
Xiao Moyan’s cheerful shouts from outside, accompanied by earth-shattering knocking on the door, startled both of them. This string of noise pollution broke the peaceful and comfortable atmosphere surrounding the two. He Jingmo was the first to regain her composure. She quickly broke away from Su Xiyan’s embrace, turned her head, and used her hand to wipe the unshed tears. Su Xiyan was even more embarrassed, her face flushed red. She wanted to look at He Jingmo but dared not, her gaze drifting aimlessly.
“Let’s go eat.” Finally, He Jingmo spoke first, her voice thick with a nasal tone. Su Xiyan still didn’t dare to look up, gave a soft “Mm,” and pushed the door open to leave. He Jingmo walked behind her, looking at her awkward manner, and let out a soft sigh. Thank goodness, it was only a dream. Thank goodness, she is right here.
“Look, you two beauties! Come and taste the food prepared by Chef Xiao herself! How does it taste?” Xiao Moyan had already boasted, pointing to the colorful, delicious dishes with meat and vegetables on the table. He Jingmo smiled without a word, while Su Xiyan scoffed disdainfully. “Come on, there’s no way you made this.”
“Which eye of yours saw that I didn’t make it?” Xiao Moyan looked at her fiercely. Are we incompatible or something? Why doesn’t she compliment me in front of my wife? Su Xiyan raised an eyebrow, staring at the crystal meatballs. “I went to the kitchen to get water just now and didn’t see you at all. How could you have made it?” Su Xiyan muttered inwardly. Is Xiao Moyan a goddess? She was having s3x ten minutes ago, and ten minutes later, she made a table full of luxurious dishes?
Xia Lingying, who was drinking coffee on the side, blushed, bit her lip, and looked at Xiao Moyan with a reproving gaze. The kitchen was so close to the study, and this person refused to close the door. Su Xiyan’s certainty must be because she saw something. The previously chatty Xiao Moyan choked. She froze, turned her head, and looked at Su Xiyan, slightly narrowing her eyes.
Su Xiyan, who was chewing braised pork, felt a strong aura. She looked up curiously and met Xiao Moyan’s murderous gaze directly.
…
She abruptly lowered her head. Su Xiyan guiltily buried her face in the soup bowl, not daring to say another word. Whether intentional or not, seeing a couple in the act was always wrong. Xiao Moyan looked at her angrily, and even her typically thick skin flushed with a suspicious red. He Jingmo looked at the three of them, confused, blinking her eyes. What is going on?
The meal ended in a bizarre atmosphere. Su Xiyan dared not look up. Every time she lifted her head, Xiao Moyan would snort coldly. Xia Lingying also kept her head down the entire time. He Jingmo, however, started to figure out what happened and curved her lips. This person must have stumbled upon the couple’s intimate moment?
After the meal, Xiao Moyan left immediately because of business at Shenghuang. Before leaving, Xiao Moyan whispered a few words to Xia Lingying in front of He and Su. Xia Lingying blushed and playfully punched her, a rare display of a delicate woman. Su Xiyan secretly peeked, feeling guilty, while He Jingmo stared at her, the smile on her face growing wider.
“You were airsick, so rest for a day. We’ll talk about business tomorrow.” Xiao Moyan waved her hand and left. Xia Lingying also drove to the TV station to record a show. The house was left with only He Jingmo and Su Xiyan. Sitting on the huge sofa, facing He Jingmo, who was staring at her, Su Xiyan felt a bit awkward. She picked up the remote control and said, looking down, “Should we watch some TV?”
“What did you do to make President Xiao blush?” He Jingmo looked at Su Xiyan amusedly, completely ignoring her suggestion. Su Xiyan pouted and didn’t speak, only changing channels. He Jingmo got up, sat next to Su Xiyan, and cupped her face with both hands. “Look into my eyes.”
The tone was almost a command. Su Xiyan usually hated it when people talked to her like that, but since the person was He Jingmo, the words became infinitely powerful and irresistible. She was forced to look into He Jingmo’s eyes and said nervously, “I went to the kitchen for water and accidentally saw the two of them doing that…”
“Doing what?” He Jingmo asked calmly, looking into her eyes. Su Xiyan saw the playfulness in her eyes. She gritted her teeth, jerked her neck, and yelled, “Having s3x!”
“Oh?” He Jingmo thought for a moment and shook her head, still cupping Su Xiyan’s cheeks to prevent her from moving.
“No, a person with a thick skin like yours wouldn’t be this awkward just because you stumbled upon someone else’s intimate moment. Tell me, what else happened?”
Su Xiyan’s face gradually turned red under He Jingmo’s gaze. Finally, even her ears were tinged with crimson. She bit her lip, refusing to speak. He Jingmo’s curiosity grew even stronger. She stared at her unblinkingly, urging, “Tell me, what happened next?”
