Why Suffer for This Distress (GL) - Chapter 18
Xiao Moyan looked at Xia Lingying somewhat blankly. Her wide-eyed, dazed look melted Xia Lingying’s heart. She hooked her arms around Xiao Moyan’s neck, stood on her tiptoes, and kissed her.
Dazed by the sudden kiss, Xiao Moyan passively let Xia Lingying kiss her. Her rare display of vulnerability ignited the fire in Xia Lingying’s heart. Now, she wasn’t just kissing. Xia Lingying gasped, raised her hand, and stroked Xiao Moyan’s smooth legs, moving up little by little, diving into her dress to explore.
“Wife, W-Wife!” Xiao Moyan trembled and quickly grabbed Xia Lingying’s hand. This is the street! Xia Lingying ignored her, continued her actions, and even playfully bit Xiao Moyan’s soft br3ast through her clothes.
Xiao Moyan gasped sharply, her face flushed as she looked at the person in front of her in astonishment. Is this really my wife? Seeing that if she didn’t stop her, a full-blown explicit scene would be enacted in broad daylight, Xiao Moyan bit her lip, pressing down on Xia Lingying’s hand to stop her from moving, and frowned, staring intently into her eyes. Xiao Moyan really wanted to know if her wife was possessed by something. How could she have such a “passionate” action?
Xia Lingying looked at Xiao Moyan’s bashful and harassed appearance with interest, raised an eyebrow, and said nothing.
“What did I do wrong this time?” Xiao Moyan asked after thinking. She was truly wronged. She thought about how her recent efforts in working hard, being diligent and enterprising, and her unyielding, aspiring spirit had even touched herself. Not only did her wife not praise her, but she was punishing her even more severely?
Xia Lingying chuckled seeing her like this, pinched her nose, and pulled Xiao Moyan into her arms, asking gently, “Are you angry already?”
“Of course I am.” Xiao Moyan acted like a delicate woman, bending and shrinking into Xia Lingying’s embrace. Unfortunately, she was naturally tall, and now wearing high heels several inches high, her attempt to act vulnerable and shrink into Xia Lingying’s arms felt somewhat incongruous.
“I didn’t mean to bully my Xiao.” Xia Lingying stroked Xiao Moyan’s hair and said with a smile. Xiao Moyan pouted like a little girl and punched her shoulder. “Then what are you trying to do? You made my little deer jump wildly in my heart.”
“Are you sure it’s a little deer and not a lion?” Xia Lingying couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Xiao Moyan would always tease her like this, and her impromptu antics always made life fun.
“Stop it, I hate it when you laugh! My little deer is shy and ran away with its tail between its legs.” While saying this, Xiao Moyan’s own mouth curved into a wide grin behind her wife’s back, smugly thinking that she was truly a talent, capable of being both the gong [dominant] and the shou [submissive]. When being the gong, she was majestic and charming, and when being the shou, she was gentle and lovely. How could such an excellent human being exist in the world?
“Hehe.” Xia Lingying smiled and grabbed Xiao Moyan’s face, yanking her out of her delusion. Xiao Moyan winced in pain. She looked at Xia Lingying, feeling wronged. The surrounding dreamy and romantic bubble instantly burst. Xia Lingying applied more pressure, and Xiao Moyan screamed for mercy, “I was wrong, Wife, I was wrong, I won’t dare to do it again!”
“Are you still going to be so mischievous and cause trouble?” Xia Lingying looked down at Xiao Moyan. Their posture resembled that of a mother and daughter. With her face being squeezed, Xiao Moyan couldn’t shake her head, so she kept promising, “Never again! You can kill me, but I won’t dare to do it again!”
“How dare you say I have to kill you before you stop?” Xia Lingying frowned and increased the pressure. Xiao Moyan knew her wife was looking for trouble today, so she quickly played the victim. “It hurts, Wife, it hurts so much. I truly know I was wrong.”
“Oh? What did you do wrong?” Xia Lingying looked at Xiao Moyan. Xiao Moyan no longer dared to be playful. She didn’t even dare to breathe and quickly answered, “Next time we do it, I will definitely close the door! Definitely close the door!”
Xia Lingying bit her lip, her face slightly red. Sure enough, this fellow was playing innocent but was secretly aware of everything.
“Xiaxia.” Xiao Moyan looked at Xia Lingying pitifully, tears welling up in her eyes. She was about to die from the pain. Xia Lingying was genuinely applying a lot of force. There was no other way. If she didn’t use real force against this person, how would she know pain? With a cold snort, Xia Lingying released her hand and turned to walk towards the car. Xiao Moyan rubbed her face gloomily and followed her. Remembering that the driver was in the car, she coughed, instantly changing her demeanor from a meek little wife. She sat in the car with her head held high.
“Home.” With a grand wave of her hand, Xiao Moyan commanded calmly. The driver nodded, his face slightly red, his shoulders trembling violently, clearly suppressing laughter. Xiao Moyan looked at him suspiciously, then looked in the rearview mirror at her wife, who was also wearing a mischievous smile, and quickly checked her own reflection in the mirror.
…
Looking at her face in the mirror—half red and half white, perfectly symmetrical with a handprint on it—Xiao Moyan gritted her teeth and took a deep breath. If I don’t get revenge for this, I’m not the dominant one. Wife, the night is long; you just wait for me!
The time could not all be wasted on eating, drinking, and having fun. The next few days were not as leisurely and carefree as the first day. Su Xiyan was constantly running around with Xiao Moyan, which made her head spin. During this process, her attitude towards Xiao Moyan changed significantly. Seeing Xiao Moyan effortlessly handling one thorny issue after another that seemed complicated to her, Su Xiyan’s attitude evolved from initial disdain and contempt to admiration and respect. He Jingmo only smiled without a word as she listened to her rambling. Xiao Moyan, however, was quite enjoying it. When the three-day trip ended, as she dropped the two off at the airport, she said cheerfully, “Go back there, finish your own business, and come to Beijing more often when you have time. I’ll take care of things here at Shenghuang, and I’ll bring my wife over for a visit in a while. Don’t forget to prepare the reception, little Suzi.”
Waving her hand casually, Xiao Moyan didn’t say anything more, leaving only her back for the two to look at. Su Xiyan looked at her receding figure for a long time without speaking. He Jingmo waved her hand in front of her eyes. “What? Lost in thought?”
Su Xiyan came back to her senses, smiled at her, and sighed. “I just really admire a woman like that. She handles both career and family. Jingmo, actually… it’s not easy for her either.” She had initially thought Xiao Moyan was just preserving the empire her father had built. After spending these few days with her, watching her accept, digest, and resolve the deliberate difficulties and harshness from all kinds of people without changing her expression, the hardship and pain involved were things Xiao Moyan never talked about. Carrying the weight of the huge Shenghuang alone, that burden must be several times heavier than her own.
“Mm.” He Jingmo nodded, holding Su Xiyan’s hand while looking in the direction Xiao Moyan had left.
By the time the two got off the plane and arrived home, it was already half-dark. Su Xiyan pulled the luggage and opened the door, her face showing exhaustion.
The door opened not to the expected silence, but to a cheer, followed by a glare of bright light. He Jingmo and Su Xiyan looked at the scene in front of them in surprise.
“Little sisters, did you miss your brother and sister-in-law?”
Su Nan leaped out, waving his arms like an ape. He looked at the two excitedly. He missed Su Xiyan so much after being away for so long. He Ranran also walked out on the side. She smiled at the two holding hands, a flash of surprise in her eyes.
“Oh, you two are getting along well. Holding hands now?”
Su Nan shouted loudly, his mouth wide open with this new discovery. He Jingmo and Su Xiyan awkwardly let go of each other’s hands.
“When did you get back?” Su Xiyan frowned at Su Nan. Although her attitude was still not great, it had improved significantly since before they left. Su Nan was very pleased. He put his arm around He Ranran’s shoulder and said with a smile, “We came back yesterday. We went to Angran and heard you went to Beijing, so we came home to wait. How was it? Was it smooth?”
“Mm.” Su Xiyan nodded. He Ranran broke free from Su Nan’s hand, stepped forward to hold He Jingmo, and looked at her. “Are you okay?”
He Jingmo knew He Ranran was worried about her being bullied by Su Xiyan, so she smiled and nodded. He Ranran sighed in relief and patted her sister’s shoulder.
“Are you guys coming back to live here?” Su Xiyan poured a glass of water for He Jingmo. He Jingmo took it without speaking. The actions of the two were natural and completely undisguised. Su Nan, being oblivious, didn’t pay attention, but He Ranran was surprised. When did they become so harmonious? They were arguing constantly before they left!
“Yeah, well, sis, I need to discuss something with you.” Su Nan leaned close to Su Xiyan with a grin. Su Xiyan’s words had reminded him of his concern. Su Xiyan, however, had other thoughts. Seeing her brother’s look, she thought He Jingmo would be taken away and no longer live with her. Her mood instantly plummeted. She took a sip of water, keeping her expression straight, and asked faintly, “What is it?”
“It’s just that your sister-in-law and I enjoyed our trip so much.” Su Nan pondered how to start the conversation.
“And so?” Su Xiyan’s heart skipped a beat. She stared at Su Nan unblinkingly. Su Nan looked at her, feeling a little anxious. After thinking, he finally gathered his courage and said, “We… we want to continue traveling the world.”
“That’s great.” Su Xiyan beamed, agreeing without a second thought. Her previously stiff facial muscles relaxed. That scared me to death. It’s fine as long as Jingmo isn’t leaving. It’s fine. Now it was Su Nan’s turn to feel awkward. He widened his eyes, unable to believe that the person in front of him was truly his sister.
He Jingmo, on the side, lowered her head and curved her lips into a smile. Su Xiyan felt she was being too obvious, so she quickly made amends by gripping Su Nan’s hand. “Brother, why didn’t you tell me earlier? I’m going to miss you so much.”
Su Nan smiled at He Ranran. I knew it. How could Su Xiyan suddenly change her ways? His precious little sister missed him the most!
“But you have to have your own life, even if you miss me. When are you leaving? Tomorrow? I’ll come send you off!”
Su Xiyan’s next words nearly made Su Nan, who was drinking water, choke. He looked at Su Xiyan in disbelief, a hint of loneliness and sadness flashing in his eyes. His sister’s attitude had changed so much after he was gone for only a few days. She didn’t need him anymore?
A cold wind seemed to blow across his face. Su Nan was tormented by the cruel reality that his sister no longer needed him. He Ranran looked at him, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. “What are you doing? Isn’t it good that Xiyan has grown up?”
“It is, but—” Su Nan muttered, his mood still low. Su Xiyan smiled and hugged Su Nan’s arm playfully, as she used to. “Brother~ Don’t I just want you and sister-in-law to have fun?”
Now, He Ranran, who was comforting Su Nan, was also surprised. The two stared at Su Xiyan together. He Jingmo looked at the three of them amusedly, showing no intention of stepping in to help. Su Xiyan coughed awkwardly, took a sip of water, and changed the subject. “If everything’s settled, why did you come back? Isn’t that inconvenient?”
“Oh.” Su Nan snapped back to reality and continued his sister’s topic. “Sigh, it’s Ranran. She’s worried about Jingmo. She said she had to take care of this concern before going out to travel.”
“What concern?” Su Xiyan secretly glanced at He Jingmo, seeing her smiling at her, her face feeling hot.
“It’s just that Ranran’s classmate is back from a business trip in the States.” Su Nan smiled, turning his gaze to He Jingmo. Su Xiyan frowned. “And then?” What does a classmate returning have to do with Jingmo?
He Ranran looked at He Jingmo and said with a smile, “It’s the Wei Ning I mentioned to you before. He came back last week. Didn’t I say I wanted to introduce him to you? I met him. He’s matured, very stable, and the type you like.”
He Jingmo was stunned when she heard her sister’s words. Her first reaction was not to respond to her sister, but to turn and look at Su Xiyan.
