Why Suffer for This Distress (GL) - Chapter 2
Su Nan and He Ranran were completely dumbfounded. However, the person involved, Su Xiyan, looked at He Jingmo very calmly, her narrow, beautiful eyes slightly squinted, tinged with a cold chill: “Are you following me?”
He Jingmo looked at Su Xiyan and said indifferently: “Don’t think too highly of yourself. I was just passing by and happened to see a scene of a human and a monster interacting.”
“Xiyan! Is what Jingmo said true?” Su Nan, who was beside her, woke up from his shock. He looked at Su Xiyan in agonizing pain. “Heavens! Earth! What exactly have I done? Not only did I lose my parents when I was young, but the sister I painstakingly raised has fallen in love with a woman?!”
Su Xiyan turned her head to look at Su Nan, raising an eyebrow. “What? You’re allowed to marry a woman, but I’m not allowed to like one?”
He Ranran, standing next to Su Nan, couldn’t help but speak up, frowning at her. “What is with your attitude? Who was it that just finished saying all pretty women are vixens [fox spirits]?”
Su Xiyan shrugged, adopting a ‘come at me’ attitude. “Oh, come on, what’s up? Are you three in cahoots now? I did say that pretty women are vixens! But who am I?”
Su Xiyan arrogantly looked down at the three people present. “If a vixen encounters me, she’s only fit to be corrupted by me!”
“Mei [Sis]…” Su Nan’s voice was trembling. He had vaguely sensed Su Xiyan’s preference for women back in college, but even though she was his own sister, some things were always difficult to bring up. Now that his guess was confirmed by He Jingmo, Su Nan couldn’t accept it right away.
“I forbid you from liking women!” Before Su Nan could hesitate, He Ranran immediately adopted the stance of a sister-in-law. Hearing her sister’s words, He Jingmo’s brows slightly furrowed, and her expression was a little unnatural. Su Xiyan, however, raised an eyebrow at He Ranran and smiled strangely. “I heard that sexual orientation is mostly genetic, inherited from parents. Since I like women, Sis-in-Law, what do you think will happen to my brother?”
The two words “Sis-in-Law” were deliberately drawn out by Su Xiyan, and her expression was quite playful, her gaze moving back and forth between He Ranran and Su Nan. He Ranran immediately shut up and turned to look at Su Nan. Su Nan’s face turned red, and he roughly shouted: “You’ve been with me for so long, and you still don’t know me?! Xiyan, what trouble are you stirring up?!”
Su Xiyan ultimately still felt bad for Su Nan. Seeing his face flushed with anxiety, she heart-wearily waved her hand. “Forget it, Ge [Bro], go ahead and leave. Just leave me alone. I believe that Mom and Dad’s souls will always stay with me, and they will definitely understand you. They certainly won’t pester you tonight or complain to you.”
“…”
“…”
“…”
A moment of silence followed, and the three people quietly retreated. Before leaving the door, Su Nan clung to the door frame, looking at Su Xiyan with tearful eyes. “Mei, don’t be sad. Ge will definitely not abandon you. As long as you don’t want it, Ge won’t go on any honeymoon; I’ll focus on staying with you.”
With that, the door was gently closed. He Jingmo, who had been silent all along, pursed her lips and glanced at Su Nan, who was still rubbing his eyes. Su Nan felt a little awkward under her gaze, scratched his head, and held He Ranran’s hand, smiling awkwardly. “Wasn’t I just playing along, following Xiyan’s performance?”
“Xiyan likes women… Honey, what should we do?” He Ranran murmured, her face filled with sorrow. Su Nan’s expression was equally serious. He tightly frowned and lowered his head. After a long pause, he held He Ranran’s hand, looked at her, and said, “Wife, no matter what happens in the future, let’s just live well in the present.” He Ranran looked at Su Nan with emotion, clasping his hand back. “Honey!”
“Wife!”
“…”
He Jingmo watched the two with a face full of black lines [a visual representation of exasperation/speechlessness]. This time, she genuinely sympathized with Su Xiyan.
“Honey, where should we go for our honeymoon?”
“How about Bali?”
“Whatever you say.”
“…”
He Jingmo looked at the couple speechless. She watched their excited expressions, then looked up at the dark, cold iron door, and pursed her lips.
She is really pitiful…
The next morning, Su Xiyan sat with a dark face in the CEO’s chair, listening to the security captain’s report.
“President Su, they left early this morning. Both the couple were very happy, bringing along many large and small suitcases. They walked hand-in-hand, smiling, with deep affection in their eyes, showing the happiness of a newly married couple.”
“Did I ask you to add adjectives?” Su Xiyan turned her chair and looked at the security captain with a straight face. The security captain coughed. “Um, well, President Su, I’ll head out if there’s nothing else.”
“What about his side—”
“President Su, don’t worry. It’s all arranged, safety is absolutely guaranteed.”
The security guard’s words eased the tension in Su Xiyan’s face. She nodded, and the guard turned to leave. After the person pushed the door shut, Su Xiyan let out a long sigh, got up, and walked to the window. She crossed her arms and quietly looked out the window. Are all her loved ones destined to leave her? It’s not that she wants to keep her brother tied to her forever, it’s just… she’s really afraid that he will leave, just like their parents, and never come back.
Patting her face, Su Xiyan forced herself to cheer up. She had no time or energy for personal issues. Work. Su Xiyan turned around, looking at the thick stack of proposals piled on her desk, and sighed.
In the evening, after dinner with the CEO of Feng Teng, Su Xiyan was helped into the car by her driver. Leaning back in the seat, she closed her eyes for a short nap.
“President Su, the person ahead seems to be Miss He.”
The driver’s voice interrupted Su Xiyan’s light sleep. She opened her eyes, a little groggy, and looked outside, only to see He Jingmo in a light blue long dress, standing neatly at the entrance of the complex, looking out, seemingly waiting for someone.
“Stop the car. You can go back. Pick me up at 6:30 tomorrow morning.”
“Yes.”
Getting out of the car, Su Xiyan wrapped her jacket around herself, exhaled, and looked at the person walking toward her in the distance, a smile appearing in her eyes.
“Why are you only just getting back?” He Jingmo’s voice was very cold, and her expression wasn’t great. Su Xiyan, having caught a nap in the car, was much more energetic. She raised an eyebrow at He Jingmo. “Oh, my! It’s rare for you to grace me with your presence. What is it? Have you come again to catch me stroking a vixen’s backside?”
He Jingmo rolled her eyes and looked at Su Xiyan crankily. “Did you drink?”
Seeing her flushed cheeks, He Jingmo frowned. Su Xiyan glared at her and said irritably: “What, is it not normal for me to drink? My brother and your sister have gone off to enjoy their sweet honeymoon, leaving little cabbage me at home. Can’t I have a drink?”
Upon hearing Su Xiyan’s words, He Jingmo bit her lip, watching her unblinkingly. Under the night sky, her skin looked slightly pale, her slender waist was fragile enough to be grasped, and her black long dress almost merged her with the night. Yet, the deeply hidden weariness in her eyes did not escape Su Jingmo’s sight.
“I’ve told you how many times not to look at me like that with your cross-eyes [a term for challenging/glaring eyes].”
Su Xiyan turned her head, avoiding He Jingmo’s gaze. “What exactly are you here to do?”
“My brother-in-law asked me to come and take care of you.”
“Asked? Brother-in-law?” Su Xiyan looked at He Jingmo with a cold laugh. He Jingmo met her gaze without being humble or arrogant.
“I don’t need anyone to take care of me.”
After a long moment, Su Xiyan coolly tossed out a sentence into the evening breeze and turned to leave. She knew that He Jingmo’s attitude would eventually soften, and she would beg to be allowed to take care of her.
“Then I’m leaving.”
…
The crisp voice drifted into Su Xiyan’s ears along with the evening wind. The heel of her high-heeled shoe slipped, and Su Xiyan nearly fell to the ground. She suddenly turned her head to look, only to see He Jingmo still standing where she was, watching her, with a hint of a teasing smile in her eyes.
He Jingmo!!!
They entered the house one after the other. Su Xiyan never gave He Jingmo a pleasant look, and He Jingmo also ignored her. She had long been accustomed to Su Xiyan’s temper: aloof and reserved, the more you acknowledged her, the more energetic she became.
Upon entering the house, Su Xiyan kicked off her shoes and tossed her bag, heading straight into the bathroom to shower. He Jingmo looked at the mess on the floor and pouted. This person is getting arrogant again.
When Su Xiyan came out of the bathroom after showering, He Jingmo was sitting in the living room, holding a cup of warm tea and watching TV. Seeing her emerge, He Jingmo didn’t even twitch an eyebrow, watching the TV calmly. This made Su Xiyan feel even worse. This is who Su Nan found to take care of her? She’s clearly acting like a grand lady!
“Move aside.”
Walking to the center of the sofa, Su Xiyan pushed He Jingmo off the sofa with her butt. He Jingmo looked at her with a face full of black lines. “Can you stop being so childish?”
Su Xiyan coldly scoffed, ignoring her, and used the hairdryer to blow her hair dry. Amidst the buzzing sound, her black long hair flowed like silk through her slender fingers, and a faint, subtle fragrance drifted through the living room. Su Xiyan was completely unconcerned, wearing only a silk satin nightgown—it was almost transparent, and having just showered, she hadn’t bothered to wear a bra. As she raised her arms to blow her hair, the two red points on her chest were faintly visible. He Jingmo’s face turned slightly red.
“Why are you blushing?”
Su Xiyan looked at He Jingmo’s awkward look and maliciously teased her. He Jingmo glared at her, her face turning even redder. Instantly, Su Xiyan felt a surge of playful energy. Throwing the hairdryer onto the coffee table, she extended a foot, placing her long leg across He Jingmo’s thigh.
“You know, I like women.”
A suddenly more intense scent, accompanied by Su Xiyan’s long leg, wafted toward her. He Jingmo turned her head, looking at Su Xiyan emotionlessly. Seeing that her intimidation didn’t seem to work, Su Xiyan moved her long leg up, pressing even more aggressively onto He Jingmo’s lower abdomen. She curled her lips into a seductive smile: “Aren’t you scared?”
He Jingmo didn’t speak, still looking at Su Xiyan calmly. After half a minute, Su Xiyan sensed the atmosphere was getting awkward. She coughed and began to pull her leg back.
Unexpectedly, her leg was pressed down by He Jingmo. Su Xiyan looked at her in surprise, her face filled with shock. He Jingmo raised an eyebrow at her. Her slightly cool hand covered Su Xiyan’s calf and slowly moved upward, gradually approaching the inner thigh. “What should I be afraid of?”
